Olight I3T EOS Desert Tan | Full Review

A review of the Oligjt I3T EOS. Not a new light to the market by any means, but one who’s simplicity I can appreciate. Budget friendly, more than capable for EDC, and now available in a new color.

I love these practical, honest reviews. EDC lights aren't about lumens, they're about practicality. You simply don't need thousands of lumens for most practical applications. I own a bunch of lights, but the 3 I actually use are all olight, namely this, which I take when I'm not expecting to need a light but it's dark outside, the SR Batton II which I take when I know I'll need some decent light and I have the I3E on my keychain so I always have a light regardless. 99.9% of my needs are covered by those three lights. Again, great review.

Thanks for this review! I've owned two MicroStream (non-USB) lights for years and thinking about one of these Olight i3T lights. I like the 5 lumen idea because most of the time, as you said, we don't "need" a ton of light for those simple tasks. I've found the 45 lumens from my MicroStream's a bit bright at times and "thumb" away some of the light. 180 must be crazy. I "wish" it were 5/100. But for $20, I might pull the trigger. We can never have too many lights! Oh - and that color is awesome!

Great review of an awesome and underrated light. I love the spiral knurling, both the way it looks and the way it feels. I find the 5 lumens is quite good for most things as well and the 180 is a great high mode for this size of light and AAA power source. My first example of this light was the DT, which I love and you're right--it's kind of a bronze-brown and very attractive. I've gotten the olive drab one since, but I still prefer the DT. The red one is also very attractive and the new brass one is gorgeous! I love the simplicity of only two modes but the flexibility of having both a low and a high gives it a real advantage over the single output AAA Microstream, although that is a solid performer as well. :)

I'm a flashlightolic too, just bought this i3T in Brass edition (still availible !!) It was almost twice the price and heavier but I want this thing to last forever. Anyways, this is hard to find something that was ticking all the boxes because I profoundly hate multi-mode (who really use S-O-S and strobe ?) even more so with such small form factor. I really like the fact it always start with low because I don't like to be blinded in the middle of the night. Twists are annoying and more prone to failure, I still wanted 2 modes; something really low power mode and high, like this has, plus it looks really good. I'm not looking after the MOST output possible, because I have 18650 lights for that but me too at first, i was looking for maximum power, but since this is EDC duty it's not the primary goal. Thanks for the review that confirm that it's really what I was looking for !

One of the I1R EOS lights was lost outdoors and was found 3 months later and still worked with no side effects from the weather. Can't ask for more. BTW, the S2R is rarely used on high or turbo. Hey, Bruce! Thanks so much for watching. That’s a crazy story about the I1r! Olight makes food stuff that’s for sure. I have an S1R and an S2R. Both fantastic lights. I probably carry the S1R slightly more often than the S2R, but those two are both pehomenal. Despite carrying “simpler” lights lately (I realize the S2R is still very simple relatively speaking), I do still rotate quite a bit through my lights just as I would my knives. If you haven’t seen my video all about Olights you should check it out. It’s in my Flashlight playlist. Cheers my friend!

I bought this little flashlight from Amazon uk and I must say it's so impressive and I loved it. So easy to use and it's almost as bright as the Olight i5t. This flashlight feels way better than the Olight i5t. I recently went camping and I lost it and felt bad. I bought another one same colour and another one different colour the mountain coloured one. That won't happen again lose it. The price and it's edc flashlight makes this one of the best flashlight I've owned. Well made and feels so good in hand. Every one should own this little power house for camping Hiking dog walking in the house In the car. Really enjoyed this review!

I'm glad to hear the Amazon basic batteries are good, they're friendly to the budget. I'm an 18650 nut, I love them, but they aren't super compact. I have a little Gerber light, an Infinity Ultra that I tied a snake knot lanyard on, in my backpack as a backup in case my EDC light dies. I carry a Sofirn SP31 V2 for EDC, a spare battery in my pocket, and a spare battery in the bag. Along with the Infinity I've never needed more (I also carry extra AA's in the backpack.). I've only ever needed to go to the Infinity once but never to the spare AA's. That light looks like a good alternative to the Infinity, if I didn't already have the one I did I'd look into that one. Always great to see your videos, Sean! At my dad's i have no wifi so I end up binging a ton once I'm back to mom's lol. So I'm just watching gear videos all night

Great review Sean. The only problem I have is letting my dog out. I need more power to make the 150 ft to back wall to make sure if I get eye shine what animal is creating it. Was using something very similar and wound up having to go prevent her from trying to make friends with the opossum. We have all kinds of critters around here. Opossums, raccoons, rabbits and deer which I think are everywhere. The shrub eating monsters I can do without them being in my yard. That first 2 I worry about because my dog just isn't mean and wouldn't stay away. So I like a stronger preferably rechargeable 18650 for that purpose. For just general carry that is a good light. Wish the low was more like 15 or 20 lumens. Thanks for showing it hope I can pick the pair up at the Olight sale. Have a great evening and better day tomorrow.

I would agree, for your scenario I’d probably want an 18650 in the 1000 lumen range, one of my favorites being the Sofirn SP31 v2.0 (1200 lumens, comes with an 18650 and only costs $29). Although it sounds like you’ve already got some options for your situation. Cheers, Rick!

Hey, Cameron! Thanks for watching! In reality, an Alkaline in an EDC light will most likely not cause problems if you use the same light every single day. It’s likely the battery will die before it causes problems. However, I’ve had 2 such lights have batteries leak on me, so I just go with the rechargeable NiMh. Plenty of people use Alkaline with no issues, it’s just a bit of a risk and I think there are better options. It’s all personal experience and preference though. Cheers my friend!

Nowhere near the 1040 lumens I was used to with my old S&W light (which I still love), but a lot of the time I found myself thinking it’s TOO bright. Especially looking at machined parts where it reflects a lot of light back. I also got a microstream usb at the same time and like it so far, but I admit it doesn’t get used nearly as much since it’s for home carry and I’m almost always at work. All in all after seeing your video I would still have picked the stylus pro simply because it is still an effective amount of light, and of course the run time. I would like the idea of that Olight more if it had an increased run time, even if that meant decreasing the lumens. I’ll probably still buy one for the hell of it just to try new things, but tbh I’m not expecting it to change my mind. Loved the video and look forward to seeing more of your collection and appreciate any suggestions you have for me to check out.

Hey Pat, thanks so much for watching! I love the Stylus Pro. I have no less than 6 of them around the house and in various medical kits. It’s basic, but that’s what I love about it. I’m sort of a flashabolic and my tastes span the spectrum. But lately, like you, I’m appreciating simplicity and practicality more than I am crazy brightness that I never tend to need. Thanks for the comment, and have a great week!

Worst case if I don’t like them, I’ll have some gifts for upcoming birthdays. Appreciate your response and hope you have a good night.

That’s your choice and that’s fine, but Olights (although made in China) are distributed from their facility in Georgia, and their customer service has been nothing short of fantastic when I’ve contacted them. And every light comes with a 5 year warranty. I’ve never dealt with anyone in China concerning Olight, I talk to American employees right here in the US and they’ve been great. I’m more interested in flashlights that don’t have problems so that I don’t have to deal with warranty or replacement, and I’ve never had a defective Olight personally. Nitecore and Lumintop are both great also, although I’ve had 3 Lumintop FW3A’s that didn’t work straight out of the box and had to waste my time with warranty services. I would add Sofirn as another company that has great customer service and warranty response. And of course you can’t go wrong with Elzetta or Surefire.
