Epica's singer is Simone Simons, her and Floor are friends going way back. Simone was three months (I think) pregnant at this time, hence the restrained headbanging. The show was to celebrate Epica's 10th anniversary.

Epica is the other Symphonic metal monster, a bit heavier and different of Nightwish but totally brutal. Simone Simons is an awesome singer, one of a select few in the same league with the likes of Floor and Tarja.

Finally Epica... "Why didn't I do this before?" - because you didn't read my request? 🤣😝 More Epica please ! Btw. new Epica album coming out Feb 26th. Consign to Oblivion live at the Zenith is a banger. I was at that concert, so it gives me the opportunity to relive it once again.

You should also check out Ayreon, The Day the World Breaks Down. Ayreon is not really a band, but a musical project that collaborates with many different artists to create a masterpiece, and you might get to see Floor again.

Not to mention Epica guitarist Mark Jansen and Floor Jansen (not related) were in After Forever ... and all of them have spouses in other bands . Mark GF in MaYaN , Simone Simons husband in Kamelot and Floor Jansen husband in Sabaton

Three words: Consign to Oblivion. Their site at the Zenith in Paris. It's an experience. Epica are putting out their 8th album in February, lots to pull from. Maybe for a double react, Abyss of a time music video and the acoustic version.

Yes its asome when Floor and Simone sing Salat Mater Dolorosa they both are sopranos floor is clasical Traint and Simone is an Mezzo Soprano also in my opinion the best sopranos are in Metall 🤘

There must be something in the water in Holland... The amount of amazing metal singers (especially in symphonic metal) that come from that tiny country is remarkable we have Floor and Simone here but we also have Charlotte in Delain, Sharon in Within Temptation, Anneke in The Gathering, Dianne from Xandria and there are even more....

Tuomas has been talking about playing Royal Albert Hall live with the LSO for at least the past 15 years. Maybe one day they'll actually get around to it. :D

Also you should try and react to the symphonic band, called Within Temptation they are some of the pioneers of symphonic Metal. I would suggest Our Within Temptation - Our Solemn Hour (live) from the Black Symphony DVD). That one will blow you away. Within temptation have also made a song "What about us" (feat. Tarja), that also worth checking out.

Yes it would be amazing to have Nightwish perform with a live orchestra, and Tuomas has hinted that it may happen. It hasn't yet because of logistics. As for the vocalists, Simone Simmons and Floor are good friends, in fact they trained vocals together in music school. And they still collaborate on various projects, including Ayreon.

It bears to mention, as I have not seen someone do it, that this was a one time thing to celebrate the band's 10th anniversary, and not something they do while actually touring. That's virtually impossible as far as logistics and expenses go.

I recommend Chasing the dragon live next!! But seriously though, anything Epica is amazing. You cannot choose wrong. This concert was the Retrospect show, which is a stellar concert. Full orchestra and choir.

They do go a little overboard with the illumination sometimes. Definitely check out Consign to oblivion, Storm the sorrow, Kingdom of heaven, Universal death squad and Abyss of time.

Epica ? another mythic European band in symphonic metal ;). Try from the same live:"Design your universe" or "consign to Oblivion - live Zenith" (Paris). This concert was for the 10 years of the band. 3h incredible !!! As fan of Floor, take a look at the songs of Floor in baste zangers 2019. the best: a duo Henk Poort / Floor in "phantom of the opera" (Nightwish version of course).

Retrospect show @my home town! Show full of goosebumps!

There is a lot of story behind Simone and Floor. ‘After Forever’ was the first band of Floor Jansen, the guitarist was Mark Jansen (no family of Floor). His girlfriend in those days was Simone. In 2002 Mark left ‘After Forever’ and he and Simone formed their own band ‘Sahara Dust’ what later became ‘Epica’. The relationship between Mark and Simone died down and Simone found a new boyfriend Oliver Palotai, the keyboardist from ‘Kamelot’. ‘Kamelot’ is also the band that toured with Nightwish in the States when Nightwish fired their second singer Anette Olzon and ‘Kamelot’s two guest singers Elize Ryd (from ‘Amaranthe’ now) and Alissa White-Gluz (from ‘Arch Enemy’) stepped in to replace Anette and helped out Nightwish. Meanwhile Tuomas of Nightwish called Floor to join them for the remainder of the tour. There is a video available of that event, actually there are two: ‘The Denver Debacle’ and ‘Learn the setlist in 48 hours’. There is another link between Floor and Simone and that is Amanda Somerville, an America vocal coach who lives in Germany. Amanda was engaged to and married Sander Gommans, one of the founders of ‘After Forever’. Amanda replaced Simone for the American tour of ‘Epica’, because Simone was sick and unable to do lives. She is also a guest singer for other bands as ‘Avantasia’, ‘Kamelot’, ‘Exit Eden’. She has her own band called ‘Trillium’. What do you think? Can you still follow?? LOL

Why not mention that other strand in the puzzle: Ayreon/Arjen Lucassen. Singer of Kamelot today has recorded 4 albums with Ayreon, and Arjen has/had that other project Star One, that brought over Marcela Bovio, one of the Furies on the latest Ayreon album Transitus. Marcela settled in the Netherlands too, now for 12 years I think.

You could also have mentioned that Floor, her sister Irene and Simone worked on several collabs with Arjen. But then again how can we mention them without naming that other brilliant Dutch singer Anneke van Giersbergen, who was a very big influence for Floor and Simone. And one of the reasons they started in metal. And why not telling them that Floor is married to the drummer of Sabaton, Hannes van Dahl, who..... . You see what I mean??? Epica is great. They were the last show I saw before covid hit and Nightwish is the first show I bought tickets for for 2021 as soon as they were selling them again.

Tuomas from Nightwish had said that having a symphonic orchestra on stage is done so many times, that it don't appeal to him as new steps in music - so.... Super reaction from you 👍 🤘 🤘

EPICA are from the Netherlands, also in the symphonic metal genre although very different to Nightwish, they have been around since 2003, their music ranges from the most beautiful to very heavy, but always original and always EPIC!, definitely a rabbit hole worth exploring.

Also try Ayreon Valley of the Queens feat. Floor...it is beautiful & haunting. Ayreon's albums are stories and he casts different artists to play the different parts...each one is an experience!

Consign to Oblivion live at the Zenith in Paris is fucking fantastic. Storm the Sorrow is also a great choice (there's a live version from Retrospect, or the music video, I recommend either one). Honestly, you can't really go wrong with Epica.

You really should do more Epica reactions. Maybe the live performance of "Consign to Oblivion"?

Xena and Gabriella on stage :) With re. to the live orchestra, I believe it was TankTheTech who said that he is pretty darn sure Epica lost quite a bit of money on this show, not only because of the cost to have that orchestra on stage, but even more so for the sound-guys. Orchestrating (pun intended :) ) a huge show like this is hideously expensive. Doesn't mean Nightwish couldn't do it for a similar event of course, just wanted to throw that in.

Epica are great. Symphonic metal with some splashes of death metal. Pretty sure you'll absolutely love their stuff

Stabat Mater is another duet by those two ladies. Both Simone Simons and Floor Jansen sang on several albums by Ayreon. Floor also sang in the first live concert Ayreon Universe Live Simone sang in the second live concert called The electric castle live and other tales Simone is also one of the main singers of the last album called Transitus

Epica with Simone is a fantastic band, my favorite Epica song is: Epica - Cry For The Moon , but they have many good songs. And as a Nightwish fan i`ll say: yes, maybe one time it would be fun to have a Nightwish show with the full orchestra and a big choir. It would take days to set up the band, orchestra and the choir to get the sound right, just for one show...but it would probably look cool, not sure it would sound better tho.... Not something i wish for, i would rather have a big Nightwish show with a giant light and pyro show. Happy New Year to all.

The 2 ladies did another duet also in this show, stabat mater dolorosa, check that out. Chasing the Dragon by Epica is awesome as is pretty much anything you would choose. They are another great band, like Nightwish, Sabaton, etc. Happy New Year.

Epica is an amazing band, the heavy side of symphonic metal. Anything from the Retrospect live performance DVD is well worth the watch but I'd jump on Martyr of the Free Word, Quietus, Chasing the Dragon and Design Your Universe as my favourite picks from that show.

Tuomas has said when asked about an orchestra on stage during a tour that he has considered it and likes the idea and that it could be possible for a stadium show.

Check out "scorpions Expo 2000 wind of change". They got to play with a philharmonic orchestra (several songs, actually) on TV at the opening of the 2000 World's fair in Germany.

Marc Jansen, the leader of Epica, formed the band after leaving his previous band After Forever. The singer for After Forever was a teenager named...Floor Jansen.

If you look closely at this video, you'll see that all or nearly all of the white lights are in front of the orchestra and choir - their area of the stage is lit with a steady green light. My guess is that green was chosen to reduce their sensitivity to the light they can't avoid. I've been saying for years that we need to see Nightwish in front of a full orchestra and choir. Here's how they should do it: Record and film a live album at Red Rocks with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. It worked out really well for the Moody Blues, and I'm sure Tuomas would love the setting, and the opportunity to play around a bit with the orchestral parts. The man's a musical genius; he has to get bored with playing to the same backing tracks for years on end. Then . . . Convince PBS to show the concert film during their annual pledge drive - it would definitely be a special event, and would sell a lot more copiers of the Blu-Ray to the people watching at home. As a plus, Nightwish has over twenty years' worth of "special bonuses" to use as incentives for higher-level donors. Public television wins, Nightwish wins, Nightwish fans win, and, most importantly, Americans who've never heard of Nightwish get to experience music they would LOVE if they ever got a chance to hear it. So make an end-run around the American music industry - fuck 'em, fuck 'em all. It's because of them I know more than I ever wanted to know about Cardi B.'s genitalia, and the world's greatest singer goes practically unknown. They deserve a smack in the teeth for every miserable piece of crap they promote instead of Nightwish. Or Epica. Or Within Temptation. Or Delain. Or Ayreon. Or Kamelot. Or any of a thousand artists more worthy than EVERYTHING on the charts. (MAKE AMERICA NIGHTWISH)
