Old Zandvoort Circuit 1948-1989 OLD VERSION

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

WATCHT THE IMPROVED REMAKE OF THIS VIDEO: • Circuit Zandvoort old ...
The new version conains a voiceover and historic material!
Old Zandvoort Circuit 1948-1989
In this video I show you a reconstuction of a lap at old Zandvoort (Netherlands) with pictures from the 90's and footage of today. I show you the part that is still in use and where the old track was. Also footage of the last remains of the old race track.
The original circuit of Zandvoort was in use from 1948 to 1989. In 1973 and 1980 chicanes were added to the course. In 1989 they shorten the circuit after the local government sold a part of the circuit ground.
In 1999 a new circuit was opened which included about 50% of the original track.

Every time that I see something about Zandvoort I can't help but think about Roger Williamson's tragic accident in 1973. I don't remember why, but the 1973 Dutch GP was broadcast here in the US, and I just remember his accident and the heroic efforts of David Purley to try and save him. God bless David, and God love Roger.

A tragedy that will remain forever connected to Zandvoort. Just like the Piers Courage accident in 1970, almost at the same site ("Tunnel Oost" 3:14).

Thanks for your great work keeping the memory of these original circuits alive. I raced my 911 here in 1990 as a special "away" race in the Porsche Club GB Championship season. I knew it was a shortened circuit, but I had no idea that I only missed racing the old circuit by a year or so !

The first time I vitied Zandvoort was in 1989, short after the track was shortened. But the old circuit was still complete and I could enter the old part from the parking by car. When I came back a few moths later the last 2 corners were destroyed, so I was just in time.

Just looking at the tunnel oost kink now with all that grass, just imagining Roger Williamson’s crash site, just imagine walking on that field and looking where it kinks knowing a young man was burned to death near the tree line 😔 it’s sad really, they should of kept that part of the track instead of turning it into a golf course or something, it’s weird seeing the crash footage then seeing it covered in grass

Nice video! For your next Germany visit I wanna suggest the Alemannenring in Singen. For 5 years in the 90s DTM held races there. It's a city circuit, but still I would like to see it if possible :) it's quite unlikely there are held any races again.

I’have just read all comments, so true, so cheerfull for those guys who gave their lives for their rie passion, and due to the awful lack of respect to their perdons. Because both Piers and Roger accidents might have ended differently, has the security been put at thé best level of that time… Piers Courage was my hero. I was 13. No film as for Roger. 3 years later, I was watching the GP at the french tv when Roger’s accident occured. After a few laps, some advertising was launch by the production and the accident came out in the mean time. Immediately, the production turned back to the race and we saw thé March gliding on the track up side down and of course the desperate Purley trying to fight against the fire… Coming back to Piers, June 23 1970, I was on the spot of his accident, along the old track, on June 23, 2020. Exactly at the same time he lost his life. Despite Covid 19, but hopefully where I could walk all along the urban small road which leads to the golf… With magnifient white articitial flowers, composed by a french shop in Normandy. In memory of this Young handsome and talented driver who I adopted in my hart for ever. I stood on the spot about one hour. Thé went to the parking of the sport complex, at the end if this small road for a snack. Bélize me or not, when I got back if this dead end (with no word joke), someone had taken the flowers away. It was writen Piers Courage Zandvoort 1970-2020. I spent some time to look for them around but nothing. When some of you sais that is a pity for having destroyed this part of the track, with no mention of thise hits, with Chris Lambert as well, who fall down the ancien bridge and killed a woman passing by at the wrong moment, all due to à suicidary manœuvre if Claude Regazzoni who tried to pass on where there was no place for two cars side by side… un 67 during a F2 European Championship race … You are far from stupidity from those people. It is far beyond that. Unhumanity. Shame on those who let Roger dying il the flames. Shame on those who let Piers burning in his car. Photographs available now on internet are terrible. Imagine spectators, Young Ines, seeing all during the race the burned body on the sand, in the remainings if his De Tomaso, and covered afterwards while his chums still battled on the track… Shame on the une who even not withstood the présence of flowers 50 years after the drama. I will be 67 tomorrow. It will always stay in my mind, my eyes, my hart, as an terrible injuries Philippe Henry 06 83 38 02 75

The track is located in piriapolis, uruguay, Sorry for my bad english jajajaj

Circuits of the past it's a shame if they would ever deconstruct that section, especially the tight and banked third corner. This track has been praised by numerous F1 drivers for it's tight turns, height difference and overtaking possibilities. It would be very fun to have this track back in F1 but they should keep it how it is (or maybe even extend it)
