I don't know if you've noticed, but if you move a scout on to a hill in unknown territory, it reveals a bigger portion of the map. I always look for hills to make a more efficient use of scouts. Also, they are invisible to barbs and other civs when they stand still in woods.
This video is about building up your economy in your city, barbarians and tribes. Characters are looked at a bit more. The city explanation in particular is really good. Took me several games to figure it all out. All in all, a great and logical explanation of the first few turns in the game and why you want to do certain things. Combat is explained, which is rather different from what older 4x players are used to.
Easily, one of the best 4x games I've played in years. As a long time Civ IV and Civ V player, and someone who hated Civ VI, this game is fantastic. Great video!

It definitely hits all of the right spots. It does enough things differently (and well) to justify existing. It's a good experience.
The transparency of this game is amazing - I got tired of investing in 4x games years ago but it may be time to revisit the genre.
Nice tutorial series :)

Thanks!
I just purchased this game, Iook 2 seconds in it and then looked up your video. This is much better, thanks!
Really well paced and thorough tutorial. And you have a nice, calm intonation.
I've just started playing this. Your tutorials are very useful. :-)
Looking forward to move of this series. I just picked up the game on Steam release and after the tutorial I was still very confused as I never played civ or crusader kings. Your videos are very helpful so far

Glad I could help!
It’s always a pleasure to find a video that is well narrated and has the game volume turned down. You are giving useful insights both into what the game is about and how to play it. I would be interested to hear if you think there are multiple ways to play and win. One of the strengths of Civ 4 was the balance between the different play styles and victory conditions. Humankind failed this test badly and I’m interested in your opinion of this game.

Thanks! I'm still really new to the game myself (and haven't even had my first win yet). But, as I get to grips with the mechanics and finer points, I'll definitely be experimenting to see what works and what doesn't.
Romulus is actually very good as general, even if he lower stat, as stun is a very strong ability.

I agree, its sort of god mode, you permastun any single unit, agents multiple, hit the highest HP unit to minimize damage.
Just started playing ow, thanks for guide

Any way to merge armies? Love the two guides! On to the third.
So, ”you do get other benefits from having a wife”, good to know ;)
i saw this in my recommended and i totally thought this was just civ v lol

At first glance it does look a lot like Civ 5. Though I have to admit, Civilization has a much more tidy UI. It feels a little crowded and rushed in Old World.
What button did you hit to open the production menu?
do you know how to get 2 queen consorts?
I figured it out
I can’t get end of turn to come up. All I get are a continuous loop of tutorials.
I have to say, the tutorial videos weren't really giving me much interest, but seeing some real gameplay is really starting to sell it for me. Don't know if that's staying metaphorical yet....

That's not surprising. I wanted to start making videos ASAP, but I also wanted to play through the tutorials so I at least had some idea of that I was doing. I realised after the first couple that a lot of the tutorials were just going to be me reading through walls of text and butchering names. So, once I had a good enough grasp on how to play, I decided to do a more "sandbox" series. That said, I will still finish the tutorial series for the sake of completion. I'm on the final scenario anyway.
