Several years ago, my girlfriend an I were visiting Okinawa and traveled to Kudakajima as well. There we stayed for several days and it was just amazing, the nature just beautiful. Unfortunately, we weren't aware of the snake's danger and took a good swim in the beautiful sea. Suddenly a snake speeded towards me... I was in a state of shock and couldn't move anymore... At the end, I managed to escape to the beach but I was in shock and had acute renal failure.. I was taken to a hospital in Naha and stayed there for one week... Since then I haven't been able to swim in the sea again!

Japan is beautiful! Stunning! Amazing! Their culture is so unique that separates them to any countries. Very honest and very polite. We we're in this restaurant in Fukuyama for dinner. After we ate we ask the server/cook how to get to the train station because our hotel is nearby. Instead of telling us the way, he left his restaurant and walked us near the station. We told him he doesn't need to do it but he insist, and when we finally can see the station we told him we can manage. He is very apologetic that he can't bring us to the main station, we we're so grateful for his help.

A little known fact is these snakes have REALLY small fangs and would have a tuff time biting a person. We saw them all the time while scuba diving in Okinawa, which Kudaka is a stone throw away. I was more worried about the dozens of other deadly critters in the water over there. Seemed like everywhere you looked there was something in the water that could kill you; blue ring octopus, sea wasp, cone shells, scorpionfish, lionfish... Still, you don't want to get bit by one of these guys. These women have a HUGE set of balls.

There really wasn’t much of a risk. Sure these sea snakes are very venomous but that are also extremely docile. I was swimming with these snakes in Fiji and Western Australia with no issues at all. In fact their mouth is so small that you would almost have to stick your pinky in their mouth to get bite. Don’t fear these snakes...they are beautiful and I’m glad I was able to see a few in the wild.
