Old West Vignettes: Charleston, AZ
We apologize, but this is an older video from Full30 and it is not available in HD.
We explore through the ruins of Charleston Arizona, once a thriving town and a legitimate example of the wild and dangerous Old West.
Charleston's heyday only lasted about ten years before it was largely destroyed in an earthquake, although it would see use again in the 1940s as a site for urban warfare training for US Army troops based in Fort Huachuca.

These vids are incredible. As a British citizen, the "Old West" holds a romantic fascination, and you guys breathe new life into these places. Thankyou.
I've been to Tombstone twice as a little kid, but I honestly didn't know a single thing about Charleston. Thanks Ian Karl!
There is an evacuated town in Dorset , UK near where I live, where they trained the commandos to fight house to house (When they were formed during the second world war.) It's still used today. The people there were just basically evicted and told it was for the war effort. They apparantly left gladly, wishing to do their bit in the fight against nazi tyranny. Interesting bit of history. Thanks for the upload.

you guys should do some of the ghost towns up to the north (north of Phoenix, because the land is very beautiful, and i recall seeing many of them) -Daniel.
I love the stories and the history, thanks for putting all the time and effort into these!
Thanks for the great entertaining and informative videos. Especially these old west ones. Good Job. I really like that area down there. Kind of enchanting I think. I only travel there once a year to hunt javelin. Love it. Thanks Again.
Thanks, enjoyed this video much. Especially enjoyed the aerial view. Appreciate your efforts to bring the old west to life.
You two make a great team on your shows, much appreciated!
amazing video. Please make more about different places around AZ.
You're a natural for this kind of content Karl, keep it up!
clear, concise and informative. great job!
Another good one. Thanks alot guys.
Absolutely fascinating, thank you.
Thanks, I love hearing some real 'common people' history!
Another great video. Thank you. That anecdote about Curly Bill and the Clantons was pretty amusing.
so awesome I'll have to go check it out being stationed at ft Huachuca I love this area so much history!
Great video 👍I grew up around there. Glad to see its getting the attention it deserves.
Great video! I haven't made it to Charleston yet, but I have been through Millville. I walked down the San Pedro from Old Charleston Road, but I was on the east side of the river, and didn't feel like crossing the river and then climbing the hill while wet.. So I climbed the other side and explored Millville. But visiting Charleston is still a high priority!
I was raised in the area and know many of the places you mention. Glad I came across your channel.
These videos are awesome. Love to see more.
Very informative, thanks!
I really enjoy these historical videos!

Great video
Good video....i miss AZ...
Holy crap! I hadn't heard of half of this stuff and I live just down the road.
Great Video!
Karl, One totally different subject I have a question for you. In this video you are wearing what looks like to be a traditional outer garment for that area. How would you compare and contrast that to your combat smocks? Do you have an opinion on the British smocks currently being offered by various MIL sure dealers? Please keep these coming. I expect to visit AZ in a couple years and hope to visit a couple of these sites. Any advice for someone expecting to camp over night in the area? Thanks again.
Interesting. Cool location. Thanks.
Nice work.
II realize they were further North, but I think some of the more interesting Western events, which kind of set the stage for things to follow were the Fetterman Fight (a classic exercise in bad tactics combined with poor intel), the Hayfield fight, and the Wagon Box fight. IMO although the big difference between the first fight and the last two were changes in weaponry (coupled with decent tactics on the winner's part), I believe the tactics of Captain Fetterman were poor enough that updating the weaponry available to him with the early trapdoors would have possibly made little difference.
Hey I love the content. Have you ever thought about doing some in Wyoming? I know it is a bit far from your gome base but there are some great stories here. For example the Johnson County war, the Ten Sleep raid, Tom Horn, Livere Eating Jonston , Kirwin and Big Nose George Parrot to name a few. Maybe next time you are in Cody you could do some Wyoming vignettes
I like the aerial shots. Did you get a drone?
Being law-abiding I bet you registered that drone before filming. You guys rock!
Loved it
My ol Ft Huachuca!!!!
Cool, it's good to have some facts about what went on back then in that area instead of all the dime store novel stuff we are all accustomed too.
Awesome!
we've rode our horses to Fairbank Is it possible to ride to Charleston from the Fairbank Trailhead??? Great video Thanks much for sharing

No, it is not. You wouldn’t be able the scale the river wall.
I'm digging the videos and the drug rug
That's where my grandmother was born.
Just out of curiosity Karl, in Charleston they didn´t by any chance have a lot of tensions with mexican gangs that came from the border at that time?
2:30 I was going to say y'all needed some form of Texas Rangers, a police force with state jurisdiction who could ride in and say that the current law was unacceptable... Then I checked and in 1901 the Arizona Rangers modeled on the Texas Rangers was created to do just that.
The old timers said Tombstone was where the miners sent their families to go to school and to church...
is it still call splicing if the editing is done by computer?
Earthquakes and the Army can really fuck Places up.
Old West Vingetes = instaclick
Its just adobe bricks and clay? wonder it lasts so long without roofs.
Was this not put on full30?

This is completely wrong ian has an edgertronic and its is far more capable then a damned iphone. The only way to get something better is to spend around a 100 grand.
4:31 Old West Glory Hole😂 sorry, I had to!
That is true churches are expensive

nice tactical drug rug
Can´t understand why people thought this area was great for settling. The landscape looks so deserted and desolated.
