    It wasn't difficult. It was overtuned. Big difference. It was a very easy raid that was only very unforgiving to a single miss, resist or being half a second slow to reacting to things. For example, Mythic Cenarius is a hard raid. Even if it was tuned for normal mode it would be hard.

    i'm pretty sure that being unforgiving to a single mistake of a single player in a group of 40 peoples is very difficult but hey. Super complicated mechanisms that forgive many mistakes may be fun and interesting, but they're not difficult. Requiring perfect execution of your whole raid IS difficulty. Super complex mechanisms start to be difficult when you lower how much you allow mistakes. Naxx40 was the paroxysm of not allowing mistake, and was the last raid that required it from 40 peoples instead of requiring it from 25. If you want to believe it wasn't difficult, so be it. But don't be surprised if peoples don't agree with such stupidity.

    A lot of people who aren't familiar with 40 man Naxx don't seem to realize that the bosses did the same amount of damage to lv 60 players with 6-8k hp as they did to lv 80 players with 20k+ Not to mention, that at the time you could ONLY put so many debuffs(8) on bosses otherwise they would drop off. @Irllcd13 No, it was NOT overtuned. C'thun was overtuned as it was statistically impossible to beat the boss. The same couldn't be said for Naxx. It just wore on the whole guild as many didn't know to bring RESISTANCE gear. Yes, you needed to stop boss progression to farm resistance gear in 60 dungeons to mitigate the ridiculous damage they put out.

    In all fairness, Naxx was pretty trollish. 8 AQ40-geared tanks needed for Horsemen? You'd be lucky to have 8 AQ40 tanks on your SERVER, let alone your GUILD. Which meant you had to spend time gearing up new tanks for just ONE boss encounter.

  • @Cronovey

    @Cronovey

    7 жыл бұрын

    It wasn't just AQ40 geared tanks; to kill the boss you needed 8 warrior tanks with at least 4 pieces of their Tier 3 set from Naxxramas because this bonus (originally) increased their chance to hit with Taunt, which was absolutely required to hit in order to rotate the horsemen around the room properly.

  • @MrFreeGman

    @MrFreeGman

    7 жыл бұрын

    Or just use a strategy that doesn't require moving them. That sounds really painful. Also, you only needed 8 BWL+ geared tanks, not AQ40. I tanked it successfully in t2 plus a few off pieces.

  • @CatTank

    @CatTank

    7 жыл бұрын

    yep we always used to run around ourselves, their abilities were to random to allow them to run around (imo). and some tanks needed certain resistance aswell besides other good gear. Problem is i played this on a private server where they were a little overtuned (1 horseman = hp of all 4 combined on life server in vanilla time) taking this fight to a whole new level (and having Tier 3 tanks made is a lot easier)

  • @akse

    Warrior set in AQ40 was mainly for DPS not for tanks. Of course some non set pieces there were awesome for tanking but you could do Naxx in Tier2 mainly. For Healers and DPS there was some sick loot from AQ40 that would help a lot in Naxx. But even there was some exceptions.. for example Hunter. BWL Xbow was better than anything from AQ40 and Tier2 set was just fine for Naxx aswell. AQ40 set was kinda weird.. if you wanted to have survival build then it was necessary for the increased Agility but otherwise not really.

    Naxxramas not being seen by the majority of the playerbase falls on Blizzard's hands. It makes me sad that they decided to remake the raid and then not give it a proper remake. Some of the damage numbers were still at vanilla levels despite health pools being nearly 10x larger.

    Wrong. The rate of content releases during the original game was actually brilliant. That is exactly what made the game so compelling. There was always something on the horizon. Always a moving goal post. You always felt like there was something to work towards. The game went to shit when there wasn't enough content and people got bored. A great MMO should always feel like it has more content than you have time for. That's what you're paying $15 a month for. A steady stream of content.

  • @IvyTinwe

    @IvyTinwe

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@youtubesuresuckscock This is why they release everything in a year and then let people raid the same stuff the 2nd year until the next expansion.. If you put in too much, it can be distracting and easy to get lost in. I don't like how it is today too much either, but a hard raid after another hard raid just a few months before the next expansion.. not the best idea.

    Big Blue Frontend No, a great MMO avoids themepark content and putting the "game" at the ever growing level cap. Good MMO's have emergent gameplay so the devs don't need to constantly release content and power everyone up like Dragonball Z. Their business model is exactly what killed the game, it isn't sustainable. Proven by the fact you think there is not enough content.

    I played on a WOW vanilla private server a few years ago and only a couple of guilds on the server were at the level of gear required to even attempt the first few bosses in Nax. And this after a few years of grinding and gearing up new people WITH the advantage of the raid mechanics knowledge. I guess in our current society people just don't have the patience anymore to grind for months through 35-40 man raids just to get into Nax and get their asses kicked hard. Getting 40 people in a raid is hard enough nowadays, much less 40 WELL geared people with a few hours to kill 2-3 days a week. With the ease of access that the new WOW and many other MMOs now offer, it is hard to find people with enough time and dedication to attempt vanilla Nax nowadays. It is just one of those things that will remain legendary stories for the people in the guilds that managed to kill Kel'Thuzad in the vanilla era. They will never forget that moment. :)

    This raid was the "one that got away" for me. As it was with most people. I think something like 0.1% of every single player that's ever bought a subscription for World of Warcraft was able to clear the raid and kill KT. My guild, which was the #1 horde guild on my server at the time, got up to 4 horsemen and we proceeded to get wrecked over and over again until we gave up and hung it up for TBC. So I never got to clear this raid and we still got further than most other people did. I hope I'll get my chance to beat it with WoW Classic coming out now, whenever it does come out that is. I'll still be playing it regardless if it comes out in a month, or 3 years from now. I can't wait.

Eventually my guild got better and better, but Kel'Thuzad remained such a huge obstacle. I remember we would clear the raid in an evening and the next day we kept wiping on him over and over and over. We managed to down him just once and that was honestly the most satisfying thing at the time. I know WotLK doesn't compare to Vanilla, but I must say I still really enjoyed this raid and I'm glad it was brought back.

    Minor correction with what you said regarding AQ: the AQ invasion event actually did have elites scattered throughout other maps, especially at Silithid hives in places like Feralas and The Barrens. The minions were at zone-appropriate levels, so everyone in the server could participate even if they weren't able to get to Silithus. Other minor correction: Tier 2 was actually available at incredibly reduced drop rates from Molten Core and Onyxia before the release of BWL (although the skins looked different), so it was around for quite a while longer than "just a year", per se.

    I love your videos and narration. The production value is great and there is just the perfect balance of information, humor and most importantly, lack of any bias or resentment. You are truly a WoW historian, but there is just one hiccup: Blizzard definitely still has it. A company running an MMO (or any game or software) would be mad not to keep at least one copy of the old client for reference or backdating if something went wrong. If a player got accused of an exploit, or any other issue arose, they could just fire up a backdated server and test out the problem or preform a rollback if the patch was somehow critically bugged. There is no reason to delete previous clients, it's just a few gigs. I guarantee you there is a vault somewhere with some hard drives filled with each patch. I wouldn't even be surprised if Blizz staff played on them from time to time on LAN. Now I don't doubt that when things are directly overwritten when new content is added, and I'm sure the merging process is very labor intensive and error prone. So it would have to be "destroyed" on live, but the old 1.12 clients definitely exist. If private servers have copies, Blizz would have copies, like old drafts of a book. That was my opinion before the Classic announcement, and the fact that they are even considering releasing classic servers is a testament to this. They would never commit to manually downgrading a client to 1.1 from 7.whatever by hand. They are just deciding when to implement it, marketing, design changes (hopefully lack thereof), and optimizing the old client for new hardware. This is just a layman's perspective, but it seems the most reasonable. Great work as always, just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

    I got the rare Phosphorecent stone drake (the purple colored one) during the very early days of Cata. I remember one day just making my dk sit in the so called spot where people spotted the rare dragon the most, and then I logged off for 3 days. On the third day, I logged back on my dk and the rare elite detector add. Went off like crazy and what would you guess? It was the rare mob for the mount!! I killed that thing and then did a bunch of loops around the middle of Org showing it off to everyone who didn't have it (I was one of the few people on the Hellscream server who had the mount during those days). I also miss the days when the Hellscream server population used to be full through wotlk and cata.

    Gosh, I miss the old days. I was part of an Alliance-side rogue squad, three combat, one assassination, and one Subtlety (myself). We ran world PvP all over the place (most of the group, myself included, had no idea what we were doing), and just in general got into shenanigans whenever we could. We ran Gnomer with our little squad at one point, without a healer, and we legit celebrated and figured we could probably handle anything in the game if we just used CD's on a certain rotation, shared aggro, and carried bandages/potions. It was all so experimental and fun, there weren't any real "rules" to how to build your character yet... So many good times.

I played a few trial games and acctually had a bit more fun when I was grinding mobs instead of the quests. Due to the legacy server announcements I can proudly say that I will be playing WoW to max level for the first time ever! Might even wanna dabble into the current base game!

    So if Wotlk Naxx had almost same mechanics as Vanilla Naxx I must say that Blizzard stepped up their game pretty fast, comparing fights from Molten Core to Naxx in terms of mechanics. Great series, keep them up! RIP Hayven.

    Great vid. Always interested in the old content. You won't be able to get to old Naxx though. Each instance runs on dedicated servers (not realms, physical servers). So whatever servers were running the Naxx 40 instances would have been shut off long ago.

    Too late, there are already a few players who have been honored with an NPC. You know Breanni the gnome in the pet shop? Yep, that's a real person. Same with Nymh in Winterspring. Hayven had a large following, he added to the fabric of the game, whether you had knowledge or him or not. In death, I think he's earned this spot in immortality.

    The server I was raiding on, which were Tarren Mill (Before Nihilum transfered there) only had 1 guild that actually managed to clear it as far as I remember. It was a big deal. Personally I was pretty casual when it came to PvE, so never got further than some MC and AQ20 in my small guild.

  • @ssjwes

    My guild on a private server "largest private server" was clearing Naxx in 3 hours. We could also do AQ40 and BWL in 2 hours(total for both on raid day with warlocks alts summoning etc). I'd pop a flask at first boss in AQ40 and it would be either just dropping off + - 10min on Nef fight at end of BWL. Crazy dps was going out.

    I HIGHLY doubt they had the resources at the time to back up everything. I REALLY doubt they would even want to 100% back everything up anyway. Many of Naxx's assests are shared between the old and WOTLK Naxx so nothing really has to be backed up anyway.

    a small detail that no one really talks about,i think i remember the exterior of Naxxramas having ooze spilling out of the sides of the building,kinda like the picture shown in the thumbnail of this video,atleast it did in the previous version that was in eastern plaguelands,when it was moved to northrend it lost its oozy luster,along with all the original loot,and a few npc assets changed to fit the models in northrend(for example: the fen creepers were removed in the plague quarter,and replaced with the undead version of the faceless ones,and the geists,and the giants were added in to give it more variety) Also i don't believe that part about them not having the tools to fix current naxxramas to its original form,they could simply change the loot tables back to their original form and scaled down the item level for a timewalker raid,just like the black temple timewalking raid coming in patch 7.2.5, all the assets in naxxaramas are there,with the exception of the loot table and a few trash npc's missing,i don't believe for one second that they couldn't do a timewalker of this,but with the retarded dev team at the reigns i would not doubt they would do a timewalking raid based on the WOTLK version of naxxramas,which i would expect them to do,and no one really cares for that loot anyway.

    And even about the first statement they are wrong, the instance teleporter is still active and the attunement quest used to be in the game up until Cataclysm (as were all Classic Naxx-related quests, funny enough and they could still be done in Naxx 10/25), it's jiust hidden underground. If you were allowed to glicth through the ground in the Plaguelands, you may perhaps be able to still access Naxx 40 in retail.

    Let’s put it this way....I went into Naxx with about 35 level 70s. We had greens/blues. This was before they removed it from the game. I paid for my attunement because my rep was like friendly, when I paid for my attunement BC was right around the corner so mats weren’t too bad. We wiped literally not sure how many times. There was only 1 person who knew the fight but no one knew they were doing. After like 8 wipes I went to bed. So, yea.....the instance was no joke.

    Ah yes, the good old Naxxramas, the only raid instance that kept my guild playing till we dropped, literally. I remember the endless attempts on Gothik the Harvester, to a point where I fell asleep while we were preparing for the buffs and pull. And it made me master the art of keybinds aswell as turning into a kickass tank hahaha. I was in the top alliance guild on our server at the time, formed by clanmates coming from Need for Speed Underground, who were all very competitive players back then. Patchwerk forced us tanks to grab absolutely every single buff, potion, elixir and flask you could put on your toon, including some buff you could get in UBRS by mind controlling a particular mob. Reaching 10k health was a jawdropping number to see, and yet very much needed because that ugly bastard's hateful strike hit for around 8k. As it was released in WotLK it was a huge disappointment how easy it has become, and for the laughs we tried to enter with half the people and even that wasn't a particular challenge apart from a couple of bosses who couldn't be done that way. Yes, the mythic raids surely were challenging, and yet I dare to say that NOTHING challenged any guild as HARD as the good old Naxx 40.
