I admit that the 2 stoke DD might not of been the kings of horsepower but the ones I drove started every day and did work something that I cannot say about the trucks I drove or owned that had Caterpillars in them and Detroit’s were certainly much cheaper to repair or do maintenance on than Cats or Cummins and when it comes to a mechanical marine diesel engines in the 30 to 60 foot class of boats I will take Detroit’s every day of the week

They can dish it out 24 hours a day like this in marine use or agricultural water pumping. They were built to run flat out constantly. With irrigation, sometimes they are on auto-start and they go close to full goverened RPM immediately after a cold (summer) start.

The 71 series wasn't the most powerful of the Detroit 2 cycles but seemed to be the toughest.

Hold my beer ,I'm gonna take the bus around the yard once.

I remember driving greyhound bus 8999 8 cylinder. Gas pedal sticking at 90 degrees angle. Sounded just like that. Sound so good.

Thanks for bringing back some REALLY GOOD MEMORIES of the ole green two-stroke beast.

You’re going to shit a brick when you realize most modern engines are decades old.

Make sure you keep the front wheels turned as sharp as possible when trying to get moving in mud, it really helps.

If you take the single wheel off, the Barge from Lake Lamarge will do waaAAaaay better donuts. The rear-front axle is holding the bus back from full donut (powerslide) potential.

Don't worry about that engine he has no idea how to move the rev limitor and it's on a conservative setting those engines are in gen sets that do that revving all day long for 50 years

Well, he's run two 8v71s at WOT longer than I've ever known a 1693 or a 3406 to run at WOT. If he hasn't taught himself that these old green leakers are pretty damn cool, he isn't really an auto/engine enthusiast in my book.

That switch might be the dump for the tag axke . Seems i remember them being located there . Thanks for the laugh . We had an identical bus to that one in our shop in Florida repeatedly for a 20 year span . Got to where I hated to see him coming lol . Happy turkey day .

I had one with a 6V92T in it. RPMs are everything on a 2-stroke Screaming Jimmy . Lugging one will kill one.

This and a bunch of your other vidjas are so entertaining that I've watched them more than once. That's how you know you're officially doing something right with your channel man! Great work and this type of shit is what I need in my life for some good laughs. Life is tough for some of us, and stuff like this is the type of medicine I need to make light of things, and take my mind off of some of the BS I deal with. Michael Francis this isn’t a decent bus... it’s a hairband heap that needs way more work than the bus is probably worth. The truth is that most people don’t have the time, money, or knowledge to bring something like this back into a condition that’s worth it.

I subscribed to his channel a couple months ago because of his apparent knowledge of diesel engines and having watched a few of his vids working on them. Seeing him do this to a vehicle was totally unexpected. And seemed out of character for a competent heavy equipment mechanic.

Makes you wonder doesn't it? They're just mad because we're having fun and they're stuck in their mom's basement.

Its called having fun all you hatters...don't knock it till you have tried it. I used to take old beater cars out in the woods for one purpose...to destroy them. Kind of a stress relief. I didn't see any signs that said "Stay off the grass" so don't worry about it ..it grows back. Great job guys , I only wish I was there when it happened. Now I think I'm going to go fuel up my riding mower with some racing fuel drop a handful of mothballs in the tank and go run some laps around the yard till she blows.
