    Disagree respectfully. It was all hype and no go. I had one. And while at the time i thought i was the shit, once i grew up i realized i was a tool. furthermore, the reason you cant find an unmolested version is because it's only virtue was and still is that it was easy to modify and indeed easy to make it better... So everyone did....

  • @ThePapyJay

    @ThePapyJay

    9 жыл бұрын

    DAGATHire What are you talking about? The 2JZGTE is by far one of the best inline 6 of all time and it came with a GETRAG 6 speed transmission which is absolutely fantastic. Perhaps you had the N/A version which is a LOT less powerful. You can get over 500HP without even touching the internals of the engine...

  • @DAGATHire

    @DAGATHire

    9 жыл бұрын

    ThePapyJay Hey. Like i said "I disagree respectfully". It was and is over hyped and as i said, ill repeat it for you so you understand "it's only virtue was and still is that it was easy to modify and indeed easy to make it better... So everyone did.... " If that's your thing, modding cars, then this is a great car. (no argument there) If you however couldn't care less about modding cars (ME) then it was a bit shit. ANd Making an engine produce 500+ horse power without making the chassis/suspension better is a bit stupid. Anyway, I was talking about the off the shelf car. Not it's modding potential. Or any modded versions regardless of how much or little modding was done. Furthermore, I disagreed respectfully with the other poster based on my own considerable experience with an unmodified car. So why are you asking me what im talking about. It's blatantly obvious what im talking about. Don't be butt hurt because someone doesn't like a car that you like. It's called having an opinion. It's like assholes. Everyone has one.

  • @ThePapyJay

    @ThePapyJay

    9 жыл бұрын

    If you say the stock 2JZGTE was shitty for a 30 grands car at this time, I have no idea what may satisfy you. As for the 500+hp being stupid without modifying the chassis... Well that shows some seriously lack of knowledge about the car. All in all, this car was most probably the fastest and most reliable in his category, as well as being an extremely good car for people into car modding. Have a good day and good luck finding a car that will fit your seemingly unsatisfiable requirements.

  • @KuRo88

    DAGATHire If you are talking about the fact that many people who drive this are idiots, i can partly agree. There seem to be many people who think they are "the shit" when they own one. But on the other hand, these people always think like that, be it a civic, a Benz or Golf. If you really think the car wasn't good however, i cannot agree with you. Even in its stock form it is a really fun car do drive in. I do not know if it was the "best" back then, but i certainly know it is really fun to drive and looks very nice in its stock form ( i dont like most bodykits at all, BUT thats an opinion). The engine is really really reliable, i know people who have driven the 2jz in stock form for more than 200k miles and ongoing without any problems. I think overall its a really great GT-Car. It is not really a sports car, but i personally like it even in stock form. Hell, even the N/A models have enough power to get problems with the police. Plus they sound mental with just a catback exhaust.

    I would still love to see Clarkson test one of these, even though they are old cars they have everything he likes in a car.... Big straight 6 up front, 6 speeds in the middle and power at the back. Add the right hand drive and the two fat slugs under the hood, he would enjoy it for sure. Ive seen him test the R34 but ive yet to see him in an MK4

    Supra is lighter, and you can get more hp from v8 than straight six (2jz). And lighter car with same hp wil win... And supra does not have character.... There is lot of videos of corvette beating supra... And I would rather drive any of this cars (lancia delta integrale hf, audi s2, rx3, rx7, evo 789, alfa r montreal, alfa romeo 75, ae86, i could go forever) than supra. Stock supra is not that fast, and with enoug money you can beat ferrari in yugo.... Supra is fanboy car because ff franchise...

    Ill Pill Well I can't comment on how they drive as I've never been in one never mind drive it! That is true, stock they are slow but they were around way before F&F came about and were setting records then, so to me anyway they aren't fan boy car's, the R34 is more of a fanboys car in my opinion! Yeah a V8 has 2 more cylinders plus at least 2000cc more displacement, but the fact that a 20 odd year old car can still compete with big V8's with the stock crank, to me that gives it character! but I do love supra's so naturally I'm more biased toward them haha!

    You've seen a stock Supra tranny hold 1400whp....? It would turn to dust on the first launch. The stock transmission is not capable of that kind of power. Most people get a new gearbox once they breach 400hp - after that, 99% of people recommend upgrades or you're going to blow your tranny very fast. Same goes for the engine. Significant internal upgrades are needed past 600hp. It is an awesome car, but it is not this god car everybody is making it out to be. It may be fast in Fast and Furious, but in real life it's a 10+ year old car. It's OLD. I would wager that on a track a stock 2002 Supra would struggle to keep up with a V6 Mustang or Camaro.

    It's ALL about the inline 6. Inline 6 crams more displacement in a tighter, lighter and more stable platform than a V6. Less engine stabilization is necessary, more room in the engine compartment but it is a bit harder to take advantage of the natural airflow at the front of the car. BMW engineers realize the value of of the Inline 6 platform.
