Police: Ford Transit Getaway: Ford Transit The 1970s.
Remember this being filmed very well. Location is RAF Wethersfield in Essex, with some footage shot in Finchingfield. A hectic time....
no Rover SD1?!
I would have thought that a lot more Police Forces used Rover P6's and Triumph Mk2 Pi's than the Granada ? Neither of which are mentioned here.
where is Opel Lotus Carlton Omega.....!!! the ultimate getaway car... it was so fast that it's once said that a group of joyriders outran a police helicopter in it.!
The MK10 Jag is up there in the top 5 coolest cars ever made, just look at it in the fading sunlight with those big, dim headlights that look so much classier and cool than any overly bright HD lights today, that long, wide body wallowing side to side, just magnificent.
Excellent channel. Definitely one of the better ones.
How can they not mention the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth? Some were apparently stolen in the police car storage yard before they were modified into police cars.
They missed the Greatest Jam Sandwich of All Time, the SD1 3500 V8...….. A swing and a miss for Quentin

Well unlike the SD1 the Granada V6 and Consul GT worked and didn't leaked oil everywhere :/
I appreciate the battered in a fish and chip shop joke
7:07 I don't remember seeing a battenburg myself until about the mid 2000s.
Would have thought the 3.0 24v Vauxhall Senator was worthy of inclusion.
Disregard the constabulary!

Haha that’s hilarious I had to do a double take on that too!
“Mind the kids, oh wait nevermind”
You can't outrun the radio and you can't outrun a helicopter. I'm sure glad I never had to go in pursuit in a Jag with a single dim blue light on the roof. Our units are covered in lights with two 150 watt sirens and people still wouldn't get out of the way.

Yep. The Rover V8 powered all sorts of police motors: P6, SD1, Range Rover, Land Rover, Sherpa/LDV stuff. None of that mentioned at all
I had the estate version one of those 3.0V6 Mk1 Grannies. Massive tank of of a car but it would barely clock 100mph. But it had humoungous torque that almost felt able to pull a tree out by the roots. At one point I used it to drag a HGV3 sideways.
4:32 UK's 'Life on Mars' action? xD
What’s better the mk2 or mk10 jag
Love the Granada 3.0S that white one is still alive.
When i went on the job, the fastest patrol car I drove was the 1970 Plymouth Fury I. It had the 383 four barrel and a heavy duty police package including a dual battery system. In 1973, we went to the full size Ford with the 460 4 barrel. Due to smog control equipment, the performance was dismal compared to the Plymouth. The car could hit 135 but it took forever to get there. Cars after 1971 had the engines detuned to 200 horse power or less in the U.S. The fastest or best performing police car was the AMC Matador with the 401 engine and after that engine was detuned to about 205 horsepower, it still had the top performance. The same engine in 1971 before the mandatory detuning, put out about 340 horse power. The British engines were small to begin with and they got all they could out of the smaller powerplant due to fuel costs. They had the right idea all along because now you can close to 400 horse power out of some 4 cylinder engines and certainly out of a 6.
Crikey, it’s the rozzers!
Even now I can't see a Mk1 Granada without thinking of Jack Regan saying 'shut it!'
When showing the jag .....the music from FEAR IS THE KEY is playing

The old white Ford Granda looks awesome.
Hated changing the distributor points on the Ford V8 Pilot. (I was a motor mech)

Love the T5 but sadly no mention of the Vauxhall Senator or SD1
My old T5 could leave most of the local cruisers far behind. Not that I ever tried, but man do I miss that old Volvo!
a fast helicopter is around 180mph unless you get into military types. so on a nice long straight stretch like say the Nevada desert you can still get away.
2:59 I checked the subtitles but I can't help feeling like the subtitles are wrong... 🤦♂ pretty extreme prejudice if you ask me.
The Volvos at 7:40, GMP used to have them the T5s as well as 850R's

That is actually the 850:s replacement, the V70 :) The S70 was the saloon version, and the V70, the estate version, it arrived for the 1997 model year.
3:03 WHAT DID HE SAY???
Brit cops at one time used Triumph TR4s in Newcastle, Northumberland IIRC.
Top speed of a helicopter is about 160 miles an hour if you have a straight away and a car that can do more than that you can get away
Those old school criminals had it easy
