Old ThinkPads are Computing Perfection (don't @ me)

Ғылым және технология

30-year-old Boomer once again rants about how technology nowadays just can't measure up to how it used to be, all done next to his landline phone and his Nintendo 64 with a Banjo Kazooie cartridge in it, which sips was a good game.

I'm a little upset at the fact normies push the market towards that sleek design since it is more fragile and inherently more difficult to repair and replace parts. Ideally it should be robust and modular without having some kind of major firmware difficulty. Great video, Luke!

Totally agree. UEFI is there to discourage the installation of any non MS operating system. If I buy a new laptop, I never boot into Winblows. It gets Linux as soon a it comes out of the box. My favorite lappy is by far my Thinkpad. I had an old IBM Thinkpad. That think booted from button press to Arch Linux login screen in 9 seconds.

I agree with you. I bought me a new laptop to replace me Thinkpad T430 because it was showing age and I was wanting something light for college. I'm surprise that Arch found my new laptop (HP Pavilion) wifi but my dad was wanting to switch Linux and he have a newer HP (year or two older) and Linux Mint didn't see the wifi driver so I had to find the driver and it was a pain to the point I about gave up till I finally found the wifi driver in github. The biggest thing I miss from my Thinkpad is the keyboard I got used to it and how easy it was to upgrade. I still got to get used the keyboard on my new HP and my dad's HP it was a pain to replace his old HDD and RAM. How you replace the hard drive in your HP was about the same.

Older HP EliteBooks are basically on-par with ThinkPads. I would avoid their consumer laptops, but the same goes for Lenovo. In the HP EliteBook 8770w you can replace both the CPU and GPU. This gives you a choice between AMD or Nvidia and allows you to choose between consumer or workstation GPUs depending on your needs. I have mostly dealt with ThinkPads, personally, but HP and Dell made some good business laptops as well.
