Old Sawmill Repair #4: Refabricating Legs, Checking Main Bearings, Fitting Blower

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I started an old sawmill repair. It's a mobile sawmill that has been junked. It has a bent frame in several spots, the axle is cut off, the drawbar missing, lots of rust, and so on...
In this episode I work with the support legs of the mill, opening the main bearings, washing out the old grease, and putting the new on. Making room for a ventilator into the towbar frame and so on. Few things more before the very first cut with this old sawmill.
Let's hope that we can see the first cut in the next VIDEO! Cheers!

Great work!! Best way to tackle a huge job like this is breaking it into segments and working on a section one at a time.. You are getting there, slowly but surely!!👍💯

Dear AFH projects guy. 👍👌👏 Very well done again and as always (video and work). I love to see old but good stuff getting restored and put back in use again. I'm really glad that you saved this sawmill from being scrapped. Please kindly allow me to make a suggestion: After you cleaned the big bearings from all the old and dirty grease so well, it's important to pack them with grease. Especially because you used a degreaser. I'm eagerly looking forward to watch the next video. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.

Thank you! You're welcome here! I think I packed them well. Someone said that 1/3 of grease is the maximum to put in to avoid heating.

Dear @@AFHProjects You're welcome, it's my pleasure. Thanks for replying and especially for another heart. I totally appreciate both very much. 2) If you use the grease nipples, you usually pump until a bit grease comes out somewhere (it's the same procedure all over the world). This means, that all empty spaces got filled with grease. Not only therefore I've never heard of something like only filling with grease up to 1/3 of the space. It's moreover way more common and logical, that bearings and races become hot and damaged because of too less lubrication (frictional heat between metal respectively steel pieces)! In such a case the grease can melt to oil and begin to vanish even through very tiny gaps. 3) It's definitely different when oil instead of grease is used as a lubricant in closed spaces (transmissions/gear boxes,, differentials etc.). Then you usually only need to have oil in round about 1/3 of the space. But of course it's your great sawmill and you can do whatever you want with it. Sincerely yours.
