Imo, both are fine. Both got pros and cons. People are gonna miss 2023 in like 3-4 years. Roblox as a platform has changed a lot since its beginning. If I had to give a rating to each year of Roblox and review it, it would be this: 2006: 5/10 (While it’s important, this year is really basic and there isn’t much to do except talk on the forums and play Brickbattle games. While it’s not bad, it isn’t that good either. It’s really mediocre. 2007: 8/10 (this year is actually really good tbh lol. The games were improving, events were decent to great, the community wasn’t as annoying, and the updates are probably some of the most important to platform as a whole. 2008: 9/10 (this year just had a lot of iconic games like sfoth 1-4, doomspire brickbattle, the underground war and several others. The updates were also pretty cool. While this year is kinda overrated and I could be rating this higher because “nostalgia”, I think it’s pretty great overall, especially for its time.) 2009: 7/10 (this might sound weird, but this year had some great marketing for roblox and what it had to offer at the time. Other than that, this year is just pretty much like 2008 but with more updates. It’s okay.) 2010: 6/10 (this year was also okay, I don’t have much to say about this one but I guess it’s fine.) 2011: 7/10 (I actually disliked this year for a long time, mostly because of the whole “copying games” thing that was around for the early 2010’s era of roblox, but other than that I have actually warmed up to this year over time for some great games. The one standout game for this year for me was Call Of Robloxia 5. That game was the phantom forces or arsenal of that time. Overall this year was alright, but it continued the rise of oders which began in 2010.) 2012: 9/10 (This was the beginning of the golden age of roblox for me. Apocalypse rising, call of Robloxia 5, undead nation, paintball and older games were reaching their peak at this time. Besides the April fools accident, this year was a ton of fun.) 2013: 10/10 (I just think this year is peak fight me lol) 2014: 9/10 2015: 9/10 2016: 9/10 2017: 6/10 2018: 8/10 2019: 4/10 2020: 7/10 2021: 4/10 2022: 3/10 this year can suck my dic-) 2023 so far: 6/10 (I think this year has been decent so far.) I would’ve talked about 2014 to 2021 but I didn’t feel like continuing my roblox retrospective lol. Basically both eras are alright (besides the early 2020’s which was easily the worse time of roblox ong) and the community has always been bad (besides the very early days like 2006 or 2007 which was decent, but to be fair the platform had just started lol). Good day Robloxians.

100% agree with u that ppl are gonna miss 2023 in few years. I remember back in like 2016-2017 how everyone was complaining about how shit the platform was but now people treat those years as golden age of Roblox.

I agree with 2013 being the best, 2013-2015 was that time frame in between old and modern roblox in my opinion, it was unique in its own way. Quite fun. In late 2015 and 2016 roblox began to modernize though, while still very good years it would set a downward trend to present day.

ngl for me 2020 is the peak, i joined in like 2010 but i quit after 2 years, but i still came back in 2016 after years of searching back this game's name and i didn't like these eras, also the worst year was 2019 or 2022 lol

Nostalgia factor is quite powerful in steering one's judgements and viewpoints indeed. However 2015-2016 maybe early 2017 has more justifications. Kind of odd how with less devs/(and maybe) incentives and whatnot that older roblox had a higher variety of games along with providing something that it doesn't provide today: More unique experiences. I'd still stand for having 2015-2016 style Roblox even if you had to tank the worsened quality cause at least more of the games there aren't monotonous and feel like they were made by a human being, along with capability to get back to square one to fix up past mistakes.

The main reason I miss the old roblox (from about 2011 to whenever they removed the genre browser) was because people could innovate without being punished for not being profitable because they were easier to find Do I miss the old culture and games? Yeah, but not because they were "better", it's because they were different and more in line with what I like Roblox game devs have the same issue as modern AAA developers, they have to chase trends and bombard their players with buyable stuff just to turn a profit. So people have to go digging to find anything that isn't a shitty anime fighting game grindfest or a cookie clicker knockoff that just never leaves the front page. Anyone trying to innovate just gets buried, never to be found by the masses. Removing the genre browser was when I truly realized that roblox hates its community. Especially its more passionate devs And even more so for solo devs

what people don't realize is that if they brought back old roblox it'd be such a terrible decision that they'd go bankrupt, you can't bring back an old, vulnerable version of the game that's been extensively studied for exploits and bugs, and plus most people that want "back old roblox" mostly play modern games, that would be straight up crippled from roblox downgrading their client

All things considered old ROBLOX was ass. A small majority of the 'popular games' at the time were uncopylocked junk spammed, uploaded and then got popular. Not even to mention that the animations were very basic, That being said, I'm glad to be able to say I've played 2013 ROBLOX and still love it a lot!

Old roblox (like 2004-2014) wasn't reallly better. The quality wasn't that great. But 2015-2019 was better imo.

(As a 2013 Roblox player) It's not the fact that many of us wanted the older games, its that fact thay we want the entire Roblox Staff team to treat us players as actual people, whome many view us less lile people and more like consumers of their products. Not only that, the fact that they straight up deleted old Roblox traditions such as Egg Hunts and Giftsplosions despite they're capable of making such events alongside corporate ones They also possess trouble in the prevention and deletion of unregulated content, to the point that a random guy on Twitter who is constantly put on a watchlist by Roblox had to post those unregulated content just to get their attention. (If you know, you know) IDC about older games or what not, all i wish is that Roblox respecting their actual playerbase rather than treating us as gullible children who would spend anything without a thought. And when speaking about toxic communities, I'm not speaking about those who act and sound toxic, I'm talking about Roblox communities who rope in and push vulnerable children to join a trend or group that could brainwash them, children are fundamentally easy to get their attention to and lack somewhat knowledge of internet safety and rational thought, the most prominent of these as example slenders and RoGangsters who can set off a horrible example to young children and set a path of destruction, they're not even safe outside of Roblox when they're also as easy to manipulate when TikTok exist, this alone is a dangerous example of how Roblox is becoming less and less safe for their target demographic and audience, its also worse when predators and groomers are prominent as example of many Roblox scandals. What im saying regarding the community is that us rational old roblox players want a safer environment for those who are vulnerable. You can cry about about the old artstyle or games but there is no doubt that us Roblox players all wish 3 things: 1. Roblox respecting us players as a whole. 2. The increased moderation of harmful/unregulated content. 3. The creation of a safer platform that don't prey on vulnerable players such as children. (If you read until here, thank you, I put a lot of heart, soul and thought into this)

to be honest i really like the 2007 Roblox design. i played some games from 2007 whit the actual client and they're not that booring. maybe its just me lol.

i think the main problem with new roblox for me is oversaturation and how corporate roblox feels. it doesnt feel like you're playing unique experiences where you can do anything anymore, since almost everything to be made has been made. and most roblox games now feel just as corporate. i know old roblox games had monetization but they usually didn't shove it down your face as often. plus most people were kids back then so i guess it was less noticed in general. i could play really any game i wanted to back then but now i cant force myself to play 1 new game. idk if its just me being older or if its roblox getting more modernized and corporate. thats just my opinion tbh. but if i could go back to old roblox i 100% would (if i had hindsight)

There's clearly people who want to make such projects, but sadly I never see them take off because the developer ends up abandoning it (I don't mind niche appeal, having a few hundred players on a very unique game is fine by me, even if that's paltry by modern standards).

I mean, in my point of view, today's Roblox is a bit mid, old Roblox (2006-2009) felt a bit empty, but I actually miss 2018-2020 when I started playing. I miss the simplicity of Roblox, its UI and everything.
