Old Nicosia Airport | Cyprus Mail

This exclusive video shows Nicosia International Airport as it is today: chained and padlocked, strewn with razor wire, windows pierced by bullets.
Once the island’s only international airport, it is a now a battered time capsule from 1974, a potent symbol of the island’s division.

We drove around that airport in 76 when travelling to our UN post, (Box Factory) the Trident jet was there in much better condition, (Not sure if its been moved even) the roof of the main airport was stacked with sandbags. I was 20 at the time and I'm now 65. Its about time someone got that re-opened...

Shameful two small parts, of an small island can’t live peaceful with each other nowadays. Reunion the island, rebuilt the airport and open it again.

Extremely disappointing that this airport, built & paid by the Cypriot government, has been left in ruins. Why wasn't it returned back to the Cypriot people ? Its never to late to return property back to its rightful owners.. Maybe this being returned to the Cypriot people could be the first step in unification... Come on international community, start making Cyprus a priority !!!!

Turkish is an OFFICIAL language of Republic of Cyprus. But, there was no Turkish sign or something Turkish in only Airport in Cyprus. Basically, it shows point of view against Turks before 1974 and Even Today. This disregarding will not help to solve any issue in Cyprus and responsible will be Greeks.

I flew from here a couple of times to the U.K. Happy times. It’s so sad to see it go to waste. It should be re-opened. Cyprus is connected to the EU so why can’t something be done?!
