My godmother was from New Orleans and the sweetest of people you ever hope to meet. Mary new everything about cooking the finest French Cajun Creole foods imaginable. I used to hold onto her apron while she cooked. Knowing this she would hand me piece's of delicious food like crap, sausage, chicken, prawns and mouthfuls of fine tasting soup and sauce's. New Orleans was devastated Hurricane Katrina and looter's stool over a million guns and rifles the area now is a battle ground the likes of witch have cost billions of lost tourist dollars. My feelings are mixed about returning to visit...The continued looting during these last riots haven't made life any better...

one of the most interesting parts was of the "shape up" at the river, In the years prior to stem loaders, men waited in long lines at docks across the country to be picked by the dockyard boss.Another aspect was and still is of course the balconies . Living in the Quarter for years, we were glad to have them during the torrential rains.

Such a beautiful city...once. I lived there most of my life and watched it spiral down into what it is today, a cesspool of crime and corruption. Until serious changes are made in New Orleans, I highly suggest that everyone just avoid there.

I was born and raised in San Francisco. Like NOLA we identified by our parish church-me, Holy Redeemer-took up a huge block-church, rectory, convent (Sisters of Charity) , elementary school, high school. Fantastic childhood. But it is all gone, both good news and bad. Today, condo's, senior center, AIDS Hospice ect. City is still beautiful but unlivable, unless you are a techie with very deep pockets.

Photography didn't exist in the 1800s. It was invented in the 1820s. And I think these photos are from the 1870s - 1930s. 2:09 this one is like from the 1930s or something. Maybe even later.
