Legends and legends in the making. The respect between these two groups is wonderful. The ORB's haven't missed a step and Home Free was completely up to the task, they sounded awesome. Adam's beat boxing/vocal percussion was fantastic and drove the song with authority. Great collaboration.

That's fine. You are one of the few reactors who went into it knowing the Oak Ridge Boys first so that's not surprising that you have a loyalty to the original. My favorite part of this is seeing the fan-boy/mentor relationship between the two groups which is not at all faked. The Oak Ridge boys have been big supporters and have invited them to perform with them on tour and given them a lot of career advice. My understanding is that the collaboration came about because of a friendship that developed between Tim Faust (low bass) and Duane Allen. Duane was one of his heroes growing up.

Thanks for that!! It is kinda tough reacting to 'covers' of songs you grew up with, having certain expectations and such. Sometimes groups do unexpected and astounding things (Disturbed - Sound of Silence, for instance) and sometimes it just misses the mark. Sucks for me, because I sincerely want to really, really enjoy everything, but there are times it just doesn't click.

@@SaltyReacts Yeah and that's understandable. I played this version for my Mom who is in her 80s (on my tiny phone so that was an issue too) and she didn't recognize it as even being Elvira. She was convinced they had changed the words.

This really gives me the sense of "Oak Ridge Boys Past" meeting "Home Free fellas future". The ORB' bass, Richard Sterban, sang bass for Elvis Presley early in his career. Home Free definitely collaborated with true country legends on this song--and I LOVE this collaboration❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️

I have watched lots of reactions to this song & you are the first person ever that did not like this collaboration between Home Free & The Oakridge Boys. But you are entitled to your opinion. I love the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys.

I understand completely. I had a similar reaction initially to 9 to 5. We become protective of the way we first heard it and the memories connected to the song. For me, it took watching the clips of 9 to 5 live with the beatboxing breakdown to connect to Home Free’s version. As long as you respect the talent (which you did) you aren’t required to love everything.

I sort of feel the same way about their rendition of Never Give You Up. No one will sing like Rick Astley. Most of their covers, I love. I get it. TORB are legends, and this is one of their beloved songs. I grew up listening to it and enjoying it. This version is definitely different. Not worse, but very different. I had to watch it several times before I could appreciate what they in collaboration with TORB did with this. The joy both groups had doing this - you can tell TORBs had a good time. This isn’t my favorite of Home Free, but it isn’t without a lot of charm. Give it another listen sometime. You may find something. Or you may not, and that’s okay, too.

Love your honesty on this! Although what i love is that the Oak Ridge Boys are the ones who asked to do it! That being said, nobody who sang in it did the arrangement, it was arranged by Geoff Castellucci from Voiceplay. Always respect the opinion of others, but also love that the Oak Ridge Boys seemed to love updating the song to keep it going for the younger generations!

You are very much entitled to your own personal opinion and nobody will be upset, and if they do get upset it's their problem and not yours. That said, I saw your comment about Home Free's cover of Folsom Prison Blues, and I get the feeling you are a traditionalist so perhaps there are quite a few songs you won't like that Home Free does, because their arrangements are usually unique, and they upgrade the songs to this new era for more people to enjoy. It's ok not to like it, but perhaps trying to look past what you think and feel about the original and see and hear the songs and the arrangements for what they are, absolutely incredibly talented, unique and skilled musicians putting their own spin on it as they do not try to sound like the original, they are looking to feel the song and THAT is one of their super powers. They have covered many songs I loved the original of, and many songs I have not liked at all, and I always end up loving Home Free's covers.

I agree totally with this. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I’m not upset at all that Salty didn’t care for this arrangement but I think there may be some truth to what you’re saying if he really thinks about it. There are songs that are lifelong favorites of mine that I have heard that I hate because they sound so different from the originals that I hold so dear. The thing is if you listen and take in their voices and the amazing talent that each of them has and take into consideration what they have to do differently because they have no instruments I feel like it brings a whole new level of entertainment and to me they just sound amazing most of the time. Sometimes they stay extremely close to the original as they did with Man of Constant Sorrow which you loved and sometimes they add a lot if oohs and aahs and other vocal parts that are beery different from the original to take up the spaces where instruments would’ve been. I didn’t mind what they did with this song or Folsom Prison or even Ring of Fire HOWEVER none of these songs are favorites of mine that I just cringe at any covers that anyone does that deviate from the original almost 100%. And I do have songs that are close to me like that and I can see if Home Free did a cover that was way off and did some dips and turns in places I didn’t like that I might have that same reaction and be like “man! Why did you have to change that part “😜. I think I might have more of a problem just forgiving them because they have no instruments if one of my beloved songs sounded very different. Darren Rust is usually their arranger and whom they call their sixth member and to me he is usually spot on with making even beloved classics sound great for an acapella group. Even oldies that I really love have always to me sounded great when all their beautiful voices and perfect harmonies come together. Their version of Unchained Melody would be an example of that. It is not one that I feel like choking someone if they change something but definitely a song that I have always loved. And while HF version is different from the original I still love the way their voices sound and I feel like they made it their own and it was a lovely rendition but maybe some others might think that it deviates too much from the original. Another artist from another very popular acapella group arranged this so it was a little different than how some other HF songs might turn out but I thought it was still entertaining. It’s not my favorite either but neither is the original song. Just watching them have fun and collaborate with each other and have a great time just vocalizing with these legends was fun to watch and like I said it doesn’t bother me that it was so different…same with Folsom Prison, I don’t care that they changed it cause it’s not one of my favorites. I just enjoy hearing the amazing things that can do vocally and the way everything comes together I think is entertaining and good in a different way. That saying Folsom is not one of my favorites from HF either although I do appreciate what they’re doing vocally. Home Free has so many other songs that to me are just amazing and I love what they can do with just their voices. There are some covers they have done that to me personally are even better than the originals. On those they don’t usually deviate greatly from the original arrangement it make it their own in a way also. I hope that you can think about some of the points we’re making about them and appreciate what they’re doing a little more and hopefully you’ll find more songs that you like better. They have a lot! And some nice of their own originals also. Then again they may just not be your cup of tea all the way around? I don’t see many people at all who don’t like HF but I’m sure there are plenty of people that just can’t get into them and you may be one of them. I do hope you keep an open mind though. I feel like you’ve heard a couple or few things in a row that we’re old favorites of your’s that you didn’t like the arrangement on and I feel like you’re starting to just go in thinking that you’re not going to dig it so you almost even look somewhat apprehensive lol. Ok, I know I’m rambling and I’m sure probably over doing my explanations trying to get you to give them a chance. They’re an incredibly talented bunch of young men and great down to earth people in general and I hope you can find some things from them that you find fun and enjoyable to listen ti and watch. If not then that’s cool too 😉😎. Life would be boring if we were all the same and liked all the same crap lol.

But this is a HF crowd favorite during a live show because it is fun to play with maow maow chorus, especially when Tim goes really low. Just a fun song, but both ORB & HF have better songs. I must say, it was refreshing to hear some well thought out opinions and criticisms on this number for a change. For most of the reactions I've watched of Home Free, I've really only seen various levels of "Amazing!" or on the other end of things, the rare exclamation of "It sucked!" without any thoughtful explaining or elaboration on why. Thank you so much for your honest and thoughtful reaction :) I hope you have a wonderful day.

I hope that, even if you didn't love this song, you will continue to react to Home Free with an open mind. Perhaps one way to look at this might be to consider this (or other Home Free songs you listen to) as a "new" song. For instance, Home Free recently released When Will I Be Loved. It was originally by the Everly Brothers (1960), but Linda Ronstadt's 1970's version wasn't the same as the Everlys', either. Both were valid, however.

I agree myself I didn't mind the arrangement but I seem to enjoy it most when The Oak Ridge Boys took the lead then again that might just be me I own them on both record and 8-track. I felt like it was at its peak when you could clearly hear The Oak Ridge Boys kind of taking the lead. These guys do good work but I agree with you on this. I personally would have just like The Oak Ridge Boys to be singing. Also I don't know if you'd like it but that Geoff Castellucci guy does a pretty all right cover of Tennessee Ernie Ford 16 tons has a pretty good cover of John Henry as well. He's known for a pretty impressive vocal range that goes into like sub harmonic near Earth shaking levels but can also hit some fairly high notes. I like the cover I understand it's not for everyone just would like to see what type of barbecue rating you'd give him.

The liking or disliking of it is your choice of course. But, you need to look deeper than the "like" part. This was an intentional collab to bring in the older and newer, and show people how they can STILL talk, get along, and even make music together, without the "comments", like "old", "outdated", "not in style", etc...Another commenter already noticed your "problem". You're "stuck" in a specific type mindset, and not really liking when new groups change the "old" music. But, if the Oaks were willing to take a shot, and it's "THEIR" song, you should be willing, if a real fan of them, to see what they see, and be more open minded. I just watched another reaction you did to HF, and I hit "like". Sorry to say I didn't hit "like" on this one. Not bc I disagreed with you only, but felt you were out of touch with just how GOOD HF really is, and what they could do that, to be honest, the Oaks could NEVER DO!
