this is my take on it- the music video was just a camp way of expressing the idol's side of the parasocial relationship between an artist and a fan. hanni's monologue in the beginning really brings that to light: "when you call me, i will run to you anytime anywhere. i exist for you" it brings the concern of artists having to exist only for the fans- they're trying to say they're *real* people too. she's an "iphone", basically a metaphor for being a person who has to run and be 'on' when the button (app) is pushed. danielle is very smily/bubbly type of person. fans always comment on her happy attitude and when she's watching the tv static and laughing at it, i think it shows that she's stuck in the label that people cast on her. so she's just laughing at nothing in that scene. hyein has princess syndrome, because while always trying to dress up and be her prettiest self for the fans, she forgets reality and confuses herself with fairytales. (snow white, sleeping beauty, and the revenant references) haerin- ever since debut, fans and nonfans have said haerin looks like a cat so much that she actually starts to believe she's a cat. minji is the unofficial leader of the group (there are no positions in nwjns, but a lot of people and myself included think she has leadership qualities) and she's the oldest. so she's been known to take care of her members very well. hence her thinking she is a doctor who's under pressure to take care of her members. i think the team at ador and hybe are VERY self aware of media and newjeans' market. they know what people say about newjeans!! this is their first comeback and only 5 months since their debut and they're already challenging the industry and doing callbacks to their debut! a MASTERPEICE of a music video, and the song is 10/10! i love the breaking of the 4th wall, i love how they called out their haters at the end of the video, i love hanni dressed as steve jobs. i mean, this video has it all- humor, weird/quirkyness, references, callbacks, serious topic, lore, introspection, thought provoking... no one is doing it like newjeans. i mean that literally, this has never been done before.

NewJeans are fresh and unique ! Its bringing back the kpop-vibe from 2008-2014. Its a vibe !

it is connected with Ditto.. If you look at the start when Hanni let the bird free the message was saying "Heesoo answer my call". Heesoo is the girl that is imaging them in Ditto.

Man, that statement about some of the newer groups keeping your interest was spot on for me. Until this year, I was really thinking about whether or not I was going to move past what the 4th gen had to offer in terms of music. But with new jeans leading my intrigue and lesserafim alongside them it has kept my curiosity as a fan going

It’s so funny how a lot of us 2nd gen kpop fans were able to get interested in Kpop again thanks to New Jeans. I just had a friend also message me rn saying how they love their songs (she hasn’t really listened to Kpop since going to college and entering med school!) We’re shook to find how young they are😅

When she said she was an iPhone. I was laughing till I cried. The video concept was slightly confusing but I love their song genres ❤

9:45 HeeSoo from Ditto is at the back, she was too obsessed to New Jeans and now she got in the same hospital 😂.

The only group to bring me back into K-pop. And I’ve been listening since 09 but fell off because it just hasn’t been hitting the same. I love what they do and hope nothing but the best for New Jeans.

actually new jeans were supposed to debut 2020 but due to COVID they delayed it And I think that's why they have a better storyline because it was more thought off

An iPhone is a symbolism of idol being a slave to the public, to the point they lost sight of who they really are, like Hanni said. "I exist for you, when you call me I'll be there, I'll sing for you..." Minji in real life is the most logic (ESTJ) of the group, she keeps everything in order, keeps others sane but she ends up being insane too, obsessing about helping others like a doctor but forgetting to help herself. Haerin thinks she's a cat cause tbh, we all associate her with a cat in real life right? Being in the public eye all the time makes her think she really is what fans tell her to be. Hyein thinks she is a princess. I think it has something to do with people constantly praising her features, even though she is a minor. That must get into her head. Plus, she cries with hatred looking at the bear cause it kills her prince (Danielle, who's supposed to kiss rescue Snow White Hyein) Danielle thinks they are New Jeans, but we learnt from Ditto that NJ might just be a product of imagination. Maybe all the MVs to date are just imagination. Or MAYBE WE ARE CRAZY!!!

This video took me 5x of rewatch and 4 reaction videos to understand the story this mv wanted to tell. It is just so mind boggling how artists' teams under Hybe could sustain such universe and grow with it.

newjeans is a breath of fresh air in kpop!!!

The group is like a 1/4 of it’s appeal for me. It’s how their producers reference certain melodies and rhythms that makes up most of their appeal. OMG sounded familiar to me. It took me a second to figure out what they’re referencing in OMG. Go listen to James Blake Buzzard and Kestrel. Similar rhythms and synths. Very smart reference. Excited for producers to start referencing James Blake more.😊

For me, everyone is a patient. Though I cannot just point out diagnosis of each member since I am no expert or professional in that field so I will just describe my observations. Hanni - she is like being delusional that she thinks she's an iPhone. Minji - I think she's also a patient pretending to be "fine" (like acting as a doctor/psychiatrist), maybe a coping mechanism. Haerin - she visualizes a lot of things from her mind and she vents it our by scribbling on her notepad/sketchbook. Danielle - just like Minji, she thinks she's fine but she also struggles in identifying reality and imagination/insanity (like knowing they were NewJeans but starts questioning herself too.) Hyein - she's also stuck in her own reality, thinking she's a princess (portraying different main character roles from fairy tales) Also, I think Hyein d*ed on that bear scene. Instead of a Prince's kiss, the bear attacked her that's why she appears to be a "ghost" back in the ward scene and staring lonely at the bear stuffed toy. But of course, this is all just in her head. The psychiatrist sitting on the corner could mean he feels helpless with all the insanity going on with the girls, or he could be observing the girls' behaviors.

The meaning of this OMG music video is that all 5 members are patients in a mental hospital. The first patient is Hanni, but she thinks she has an iPhone, that is, Shiri. I think the video shows each one thinking they're snow white with the apple, being a cat, being a doctor, etc., which is why they're in a mental institute. But towards the end, Danielle remembers who they really are and that they're NewJeans, and that is why they show the flashback of them performing. So they might have their memories wiped and replaced with the ones you currently see in the MV. That is my theory.
