So much character in these old schools! They had a life and history of their own. Today's kids don't know what they have missed! Community's pulled together for their schools and each other! Respect for one another and was a happier time! I was so lucky experience a small part of those times!

My dad was on the varsity basketball team and my mom cheerleader at the old Morocco gym 1959. My mom was also a varsity cheerleader at Hayworth high school in Illinois before moving to Indiana at the end of her Sophomore year.

I love these old schools and gyms. I grew up in Kansas and played in a lot of cracker boxes and larger fieldhouse style gyms as well. They had so much character and almost a "personality". Most of the new gyms are all exactly the same. 2 tiers of pull-out bleachers on the sides with a balcony walkway behind the goals. Very vanilla, to say the least.

Great video! I have to tell you about the Newby Dome in Mooresville. It was the first gym in Morgan Co. specifically built for basketball. It is over 100 years old and is sill in use today for recreational and Hoops teams.

Mishawaka opened in 1874... but if you’re talking about that current building... it’s actually 1903; along with its gym. It’s like the 3rd oldest school in the entirety of Indiana.

Great videos!!! I graduated from Greensburg in1980. I went to the school pictured for 7th and 8th grade. There is an older high school in town that is now apartments. We didn't have videos or cable- we had sports, music, and the outdoors. Thanks for the memories when our heroes were the boys who made the winning basket with 2 seconds left in the game.

Some high schools need to build more classic gym like this instead of plain box gym. Add some brick work and windows. Something to take pride in.

Ha! I went to the Huntingburg Gym and took gym class there when I was in Middle school during the 80's. It was a most magnificent structure---it could seat the whole town of 5,000 people at once, because pretty much the whole town came for the basketball games. Thanks for the memory. I was very sad when they finally tore it down, there won't be another like it ever again.

Thank you a thousand times for that wonderful compilation. I am a 1965 graduate of Washington Catholic HS and was a cheerleader in two of the gyms where "Hoosiers" was filmed. Great piece of work. Again, thanks for the memories.

You can't leave out North Liberty High School! Consolidated with John Glenn in 1982 and was tore down, but the gym still remains alive with the elementary school.
