    One of my favourite things about your channel is you show so many different brands and your open-minded approach to see the beauty and usefulness in each! I have loved this brand for years and you're right that they are not very common to see here, when they are actually really nice colours. If you ever add any more I really recommend Golden Barok Red and Scheveningen Red Deep. Scheveningen is a place where their factory is. But yeah, harder to say than Holland... For your request of requests...Would love to see your "Old World Palette!" :)

    The roots of Old Holland go back to the painters confraternity Pictura in the Hague (1664). They made their own paints and the recipes are still kept. In 1870 the painter Willem Roelofs collected all knowledge about pigments and paintmaking from Pictura and the painters of the Hague school. His son Albert started the Oudt Hollandse Olieverwen Makerij (Old Holland Oilpaints Manufactory) which was established in the fishing village Scheveningen (very nearby The Haghue). The modern company is now based in Driebergen. The company is famous for their oilpaints, The watercolours are made since 1987. In 2000 the name changed into Old Holland Classic Colours.

    agree on those color recommendations as well as Scheveningen Blue Light! The one OH swatching video i found in my initial search was a Dutch watercolorist who did a full video of the Scheveningen colors and every time i read that i hear his voice because he said it so many times with each color. ha

    I am so glad you put your palette out there. When I was exploring Old Holland I wore out the 4-5 videos i could find; so yours is welcomed and has great clarity of color and info. My Old Deft Blue is labeled PB60, just checking if you got another version. OH is the first brand where I hated their Prussian blue; the half pan was so hard to re-wet and it painted out so lightly pigmented; (I booted it to a "misfits" palette for lost paints ha). I also don't reach for the OH palette often but it feels like such a nice set of colors i found with unique mixes and qualities.

    I was hoping that you would have Golden Barok Red. It is made using PO65 a discontinued pigment. I’m not actually sure whether they still have that pigment or whether they have replaced it with something else.

    I bought Golden Barok red six months ago from Artemiranda, I don't know if they still have it. As for the brand, I think it is very expensive, the paints have this smoky scent that I dislike and there is no information on the tubes. So, there are other brands that I prefer. Thak you for your videos, I enjoy your brand swatching ones very much.

    I like how Old Holland looks but their paint is so expensive. It makes it hard to want to buy them. I don’t mind having multi-pigmented paints as I typically heavily mix paint, I just can’t get past the price.😀

    I’ve heard somewhere that Old Holland are difficult to use since they lift very easily when any layer is added. Did you find that they behave like that?

  • @RaspberryColors

    @RaspberryColors

    They do lift easier than most, so it does make it harder if you do several layers, the under May pull off. But if you like payoff right away, wow intense.

    Old holland watercolour inder is made of gum arabic, glycerin, rabbit hide glue, honey and sugar syrup. That's why it's so easy to lift because they don't only use gum arabic but they also uso rabbit hide glue. 😊

    Thanks for sharing, Ive always been curious about Old Holland. I have seen some swatching and like yours, Im always put off by the uneven streaky swatches they make. They always look awful. I have yet to see a nice smooth swatch with this brand. Either its the sloppy application of the artist or they are just really horrible brand. I don't care about the color as much as seeing what the paint is capable of. I don't know since Ive never tried them. And have yet to see a full good painting from using them. Are they even capable of achieving a smooth perfect wash? So far, again, Im discouraged. For the price, I just won't risk it. Thanks again. I would love to see more examples of this brands abilities. Thanks again.

    They are expensive, heavy and pigmented paint that lifts very easily. Old Holland does create a certain unique look or feel, but for most they may be difficult to handle, they act differently than most large brands. They can do a smooth wash, but layering it is complicated. I’m glad this helps you make a decision if it is right for you. I will try to do a demo in the near on these. Thank you Renee!

    @@RaspberryColors I have heard that they are RENOWN for their layering abilities....and make glowing transparencies with multiple layers. The trick is to use the right paper...100% cotton...let the paint DRY very well between layers...and use a soft brush for the layers...without micking around a lot. Kelly Eddington...has a youtube channel apparently...and shows how she does this...about to investigate her channel...thanks for this...Obviously...this is NOT the 36 set available from Jackson's as you have made many substitutions....Perhaps you started out with this set...then added and subtracted. It is a LOVELY SET...AND I ABSOLUTELY ADORE Old Holland Watercolour paints...If I could sell all my others...even though I love them all for different reasons...Schmincke/Winsor and Newton/Holbein/Maimeriblu/Rembrandt/Sennelier/M. Graham/A.Gallo....I would keep ONLY MY DANIEL SMITH GRANULATING PAINTS AND PREMATEK AND THESE OLD HOLLAND. If you ever want to sell any of these Old Holland paints...I am definitely a contender to buy. I think I have the same name @ intstagram...where you could private message me....thanks for this...did you do anything else with your Old Holland paints...in the last year??? I will check your listings here on youtube....Janis

    @@RaspberryColors the dutch town of scheveningen is difficult to pronounce for you, because english does not have this sound. If you wanba try, the s is pronounced like you know it, the ch then rather raspy, close to a spanish "j" as in "Mojito". And the emphasis is on the first syllable.
