I am 84 years old and lost my husband so I don’t cook anymore. After watching Rachel’s video on the beef stew I just had to try it. I was fixing for seven people so I had to add more beef broth and a few more vegetables. It didn’t come out as thick as Rachel‘s but I added some cornstarch, mixed with water, and it helped a lot. Just a note for those who are going to try this. Make sure your potatoes are not too small or they will get mushy. It was a big hit and I have leftovers to enjoy the next day. I watch her every day just for the enjoyment of watching her cook, and how she enjoys it. I also fixed corn bread to go with it, and it was a hit.

I’m 48 and lost my husband of 20 yrs, four years ago. My sympathy goes out for your loss❤ I wish no one had to go through it.😢I loved making his meals from scratch and lots of Love. I would always place his food on his plate like a fancy over the top restaurant. Mile high shredded cheese, assortment of sauces, the parsely on the side of your plate with the beet slice.😂 😊He loved his desserts. He would look over at me or he say from another room “ I want sumpin” in a cute coy little voice. I miss that so, so much! He was always appreciative and would tell everyone about it. I just started watching her and it has sparked my love for cooking as well😊

Hi, Rachel! I made your Old Fashioned Beef Stew yesterday. I usually make beef stew in my pressure cooker, but I will have to say that cooking it slowly was worth the wait! It was "over the top" delicious! I love watching your videos and plan to make some more of your dishes! I am a retired teacher and you do such a great job demonstrating your recipes and explaining "why" you do things a certain way! Keep up the great work!

I just tried this recipe tonight! My husband has been saying it’s the best stew he ever had anywhere and had two servings. I didn’t have bacon grease so used butter instead and used 3/4 cup red wine plus 5 cups of the broth instead of the broth alone. It was to die for and the meat was fall apart tender. All I can say is wow! The best ever! Thank you, Rachel!

I have gone to many other cooking sites with other cooks, BUT when I “discovered you” I was “ hooked!!”Your step by step teaching techniques are right on point! You dont get “cutsie” or “Joke around” to hold our attention, You speak and from teach from the heart! And you verbalize such respect for your family, especially “My Ron” !Love when you causally mention anout how the weather is at the moment, your plans of going to Texas etc. you dont overdo it..And when you taste your food, the expressions you make! That lil “Rachel dance”when you really love the taste, OMG! Love it, you make me smile, Wish you were my neighbor to have coffee with you and just “Chat!”I live in N. Azusa, Ca. Don’t ever change your Style! Con Mucho Amor! MsCam

Rachel I just love the way you cook. I’ve been a good home cook for around 40 years, but for the past 20 or so, due to my busy lifestyle, I’ve been using shortcuts, readymade ingredients and packet mixes. I seem to have lost my mojo. No more! I’m retired now with lots of time and your recipes take me right back to the beginning, when I made everything from scratch, with passion. You use tried and tested methods, combined with years of experience. And that special ingredient - cooking with love. Thanks so much for inspiring me again Rachel. I’m hooked on your channel and am remembering how nice it is to cook from scratch. I started by watching your cabbage rolls, but it’s now midnight and I’ve watched five more videos lol. I’m obsessed. You have a wonderful style of presenting and clearly a genuine love of good food. You’ve made another fan and I’ll be watching everything you post. I’ve been watching KZread videos for years, but have never felt the need to comment before now. Keep up the good work 💖

Hi, Rachel! My husband and I both love Mexican food, but we live in a smaller city in Northern Ontario. The only Mexican restaurant we have here is Taco Bell, so we have nothing authentic. I have been looking for a Mexican cooking channel, and yours popped up. This beef stew recipe showed up first, so I tried it. It is the most amazing beef stew I have ever made! My husband loved it. I knew immediately that you know how to cook! I just love your gentle and calm manor, and you explain each step. The next thing I am going to try is the Jalepeno Popper Quiche. You make it all look so simple and easy! I sometimes just watch your channel for the calming affect you have. I look forward to more great recipes, and I will let you know how each one goes for me!

Oh Rachel, your Beef Stew is just like my Dear late Mum cooked In Scotland. It takes me back all those yrs. (She was a Farmers wife, we had a Dairy & Beef Farm + cropping.) She kindly taught me to cook too. On top of her Stews she also made Dumplings which were yummy. I must tell you this Tip “ Mum cooked her potatoes separately, after draining she put Some butter in + a spoonful of Oatmeal + Parsley and gave the pot a good shake. ( please try it sometime 🤫) “ My sister & I loved to Scrape the Bottom of the Potato Pot twas just Yummy in our Tummies” “ Mum also made Scottish Clootie Dumpling, for our Birthdays & Black Bun for New Year + Shortbread + Was a Super Baker of Cakes & Scones 👏👏 I just so love to watch your Cooking too, as does the rest of the World 😋😋 👏👏👏

I just had to comment, this is exactly, down to the last detail, the way my Mom taught me to make stew when I was a girl in the 60's. I'm 73 now and still make it, never changing a thing. I was going to let you know that the very last thing I do is add about a cup of frozen peas, and unbelievably, there was a bowl of peas, I just had to smile. Thank you so much for the walk down memory lane with my Mom. P.S. if you don't have Lea&Perrens, we used soya sauce.

I watched several videos on this because I was interested in learning how to do this. I really like how you use the veggies at the middle and end of your recipe. Interesting. I didn't see the other channels doing this. I prefer this method although I will probably add wine to mine as well. I like how you cooked the beef as well with the flour.

After making and enjoying just recently, I shared with my daughter and her husband - (he works in the meat industry) - both just raved over the deliciousness of this recipe. So, many 'thumbs up' on this wonderful recipe. A real Keeper!!

Years ago when my mother was alive and able to cook nobody could cook like my mom she was a beautiful Southern gal and she knew how to cook for sure but I wanted to say that she used to have a beef roast and a pork roast together in the same deep iron skillet that she used and let me tell you that gravy I cannot match I just cannot cook like my mother of course I left home at fifteen to make my own way so I missed out on being taught by her but she wasn't good at teaching because we did not know until many many years later that she had a huge brain tumor growing even though we kept our house super clean and we all work in the yard together you would have never known it then that she had this problem we knew something was wrong because she could go through a bottle of aspirins and no time bless her heart I just have such good memories of her beautiful ties and every southern thing she cooked we were raised in Florida whisper goes after my dad died I was twelve and it was tough times but the three of us children learned a lot from her anyway thanks for showing people how to cook the delicious things that you cook

Rachel, I leave my spices whole while its cooking and it's easy to remove just before you serve it. The stems are a little heartier in earthy flavor! As for the baby potatos, I add them very last so they don't get mushy. In recent years I've been adding chunks of egg plant at the end a few minutes after the potatoes. It adds a creamy lush flavor. I can't believe how heavenly it is in beef stew!

I am 88 yrs. young and this is the way my grandmother cooked. I want this stew - right now, I have watched all of your cooking shows and I love them so much because it is like standing on a chair in her kitchen and loving whatever she was cooking. When the family gathered for a Sunday dinner or a holiday meal the table was always set with her china, which I have, white linens, etc. There are special things I remember such as her breaded tomatoes, always fried chicken or some type of beef and fluffy mashed potatoes with melted butter. Usually for dessert was her special white cake with warm lemon sauce. Oh how I miss her and her Irish stories - some were a little scary. Your shows remind me of her. Thank you Rachel.

I totally jive with your cooking preferences and style. I grew up in SW Nebraska farm family eating hearty meals…beef, noodles, potatoes, cabbage rolls, stuffed bell peppers, homemade bread, homemade desserts. Also in that area, Hispanic immigrants started moving in. So I was exposed to enchiladas, tacos, chorizo, burritos. Another twist to my palate is my Appalachian Grandma, I love fried potatoes, soup beans, cornbread, pork chops, chicken & dumpling, chow chow, fried green tomatoes, fresh veggies, & sour kraut.

WOW... What can i say!? I was sitting at home with my partner, talking about how our parents used to cook nice food like stew's etc. Then i thought of the stews my mother used to make when i was growing up! And decided to search for videos on how to make a beef stew since my mother has passed away and found this one! i could not believe how you and my mother cooked the stew almost the same! My mother never used mushrooms that was the only thing and i never watched her cook it or prepare it, so that's why i started looking for the stew videos! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!! Now i can finally cook a beef stew of my own and surprise my wife and kids with it! When i do decide to cook it during our Australian winter, i will let you know how i all turned out! My mind is still blown... Fingers crossed i don't burn it!... Appreciate what you have taught me Rachel through this video!!! (Tommy Kruse, Sydney, Australia)
