I am 59 years old and I have never seen anything like this player before or since his playing days. People who try to compare modern players with him and say they are better? They just don't understand the levels he got to but I understand why they think that way - the game is all hype these days and a lot easier to play as there are no longer fouls anymore. Half the tackles Maradonna received would be yellow cards today, and the other half red! If he played now, I truly believe he would score/assist at least 3 goals every game. It is hard to compare players from different eras, but isn't this man the exception? I believe he would have excelled and been brilliant and better than the rest whenever he arrived on this earth and I can't think of anyone else I can say that about. Love the man, RIP. Dave from England

I was born in Naples and was a teenager when he was playing for us. I was gifted to see this legend playing in the stadium that now is called like him. How much joy he gave to the people of my poor city and to all those who were passionate for this game. When he passed away it was like losing a brother and it still hurts so much. We sorely miss you, Diego

He came to my city, Kolkata, India multiple times and he was gracious enough to teach young kids a skill or two and did a training session with them. Even Messi came, and I watched his match in the stadium but the frenzy around Maradona when he came even without a match, matched Messi's and even surpassed him everytime he came. It was something else. Many age old football lovers have a special thing for Maradona.

For me its not just the fantastic ball control, its the astonishing level of spatial awareness, vision and timing he had. Its like he always had a map in his mind of not only where the ball is at any given moment, but also where all the other players are at that same moment. Plus its like he could see 5 or 10 seconds into the future in his mind map so he would know where they would all be when his pass arrived at its destination. Simply the best there has ever been.

@@peaceandlove544 Verona, Bergamo, Brescia, Milan, Turin, etc .. are cities in Northern Italy. Diego's sentence explained the racism of Northern Italians against the Neapolitans. When he went to play for the first time with the Napoli team in the stadiums of Northern Italy, he understood the social battle. So... he understood what it meant for the Neapolitans to win in those cities \ stadium ... The Neapolitans loved him so much for this. Up to idolize it. (There are historical reasons: Napoli was the capital of the ancient kingdom of the Two Sicilies. It was destroyed by English and Italian masonry to create Italy). Italy was born and even today administered through policies of internal racism against the lands and people of the South. Basically, Northern Italians (since 1861) were brought up to hate those of the South. This is the DNA of the Italian flag (false nation). Again in 2020 .. Corruption.

Messi in his prime needed Xavi, Iniesta and a whole bunch of other superstars in their own right. Maradona was 10x more genius than Messi and had higher skill. The obvious problem was his duration, but then he was much more impactful than Messi. The entire planet knows Maradona, even 90 year old grandmothers who have never seen a football game in their life. Messi is nowhere near as big in collective human history.

@@markriobr i dont think so, Ruggeri, Burruchaga, (and so on) werent considered as superstars, they were just average players who just played good occasionally. In 1982, since Maradona's debut, Argentina slowly become a great team, in 1982 Maradona was still young, he showed fantastic performance but wasnt get enough attention because Italy's compactness and Brazillian greatest team ever. In 1986 and 1990, Maradona almost single handedly led Argentina to the finals, many chances he made wasnt converted to a goal by his teammates. Even German were scared of him, and forced Beckenbauer to give Matthaus an order to mark him at all costs. Maradona's teammates played good only in WC due to Maradona's leadership and charisma. Napaleon says "if a lion lead 100 dogs in a war, they would fight like a lion" and vice versa. Similiar situation occured in Napoli. Careca was just an average player, and the most goals scored by Maradona not him, and Hamsik broke it a year ago. Would you call Luca Toni was a superstar? He played good, but was still considered as an average-good player. You said Messi only great for Barcelona, you're the one who knows nothing perhaps. Maradona is number one for me and Messi second tho.

RedPiller also Ronaldo Brazillian is 6 feet tall. And Zidane is 6 foot 1, Ronaldinho is only 5 foot 11 so I’ll give you that one mate. But O don’t know what ur talking about.

Yes. Love Maradona. Only one better I've ever seen is Messi. Never thought I would see another Maradona in my lifetime.

Really love watching him played fooball. His skill was a nightmare for goolkeeper and defender. Sometimes foul action was the only way to stop him. Thanks Diego, for giving us so much joy in football.

The most natural gifted player on this earth, did not train that hard, skipped many sessions, bad habits with drug, alcohol and partying, yet was the best... God only knows what further he could have achieved.... this man is a God in Argentina and Naples, napoli has no number 10 till this day, what he did for the neapolitan area of Italy's south is inspiring, he overcame the rule and wealth the teams from northern Italy held over the southern teams, it was racism and hatred, he overcame and broke all those rules, nobody knows in 86' Argentina had no hope of the world cup the team was hopeless and utilized players like tata brown who was released from a ligue 2 team in argentina, that's how crap they were, most players weren't even top league or first team players, but a captain of Diego inspired and single handedly won the world cup... it can't be replicated... I won't say goat, but definitely the best! Oh mama!

His technique is flawless, but what always surprises me the most about Maradona is his creativity! He doesn't do fancy skills like Ronaldinho, but somehow he always does something you don't expect. Like Messi who also has flawless technique, just simply does not have the same creativity. I'm not putting down anyone btw, I just admire Maradona :)
