I'm not sure country has anything to do with these. Perhaps city life in the vast majority of the US was very different than today. Most of these were more popular with college and city people than people outside of the urban areas. Those who thought of themselves as country music listeners pretty much listened to music stations with a truck driver/cowboy theme, exclusively. Up until the mid fifties folk songs with a theme about country life existed along but that faded away. The bizarre fear of communism played a role in causing many to be sure to disassociate themselves from anything that might sound remotely like a protest type of theme. Most country songs from that time were often about the unfairness of life in the USA. They weren't unpatriotic, they just wanted a better life. The anti-left paranoia in the fifties made people from conservative areas especially rigid in their intense need to avoid anything that might have had the tiniest hint of protest. That was exclusively reserved for songs about their distaste of people from "low morality" cities. You know, where communists were hiding.

Grab your nuts and face reality or remain "The Land of the Freak, Home of De Praved"....Oxycontin Cocktail, anyone?
