It's simple.. If you want a do everything bike that will do half a million miles without needing to be fixed..get a VSTROM..If you want to feel cool and show off to your mates, get something else.

I order the regular 1050 because I only ride on road. I did have the Vstrom before the 1000 XT and last year the new KTM 1290 SAS which was stolen after few months. I always loved the Vtwin from Suzuki, so much character and amazing sound with Akrapovic. So I wanted the new one now that it has quickshifter and TFT.

Since you have already purchased V-Strom and satisfied with that so it is all good now, but personally you might as well have a look at Harley Davidson's Pan American and Ducati Mutlistrada V2 because they both equipped with VTwin and have even more advanced electronic gadgets as well as much more power output.

This seems like a no-brainer here in Denmark. The road-going version of this with all the bells and whistles will come in at around 189.000 dkk. The Honda Africa Twin adventure sports comes in at 279.000 dkk. That's a 47% bigger price tag on the Africa Twin!

I like the look of the V-Strom. Might I remind people that the Yamaha Super Tenere is a bit heavier than the Strom? Obviously the Yamaha has a bigger displacement and has a shaft drive, but still. people balk at the Suzuki's weight but it's not the class leader in weight.

fancied one of these when they came out, but thought they were a bit pricey. Ive just put a deposit down on a new DE version in black. £11995 now and they come with the free side cases. Cant wait to pick it up.

I love the process of buying bikes. Where you go from saving forthe CRF300l to getting a Tuono and after a tight decision of replacing it with the KTM 790 ADV and VStrom 800DE you realise that the Standard 1050 VStrom is the right choice. 😂

I would probably take the 800 DE over 1050 DE. Lower seat, better fuel economy, over 20 kilos lighter and quite a bit cheaper. And the 20 hp I would "lose" are not that important. It makes over 80, which is more than enough.

I think Suzuki did a great job with all 3 options (650, 800, and 1050) you really cant go wrong with either one as they all have enough power but this way you get to dial in exactly how much you want.

Seems quite expensive in DE trim when compared to KTM 890 Adventure R. Rather heavy in comparison too. One thing pretty much guaranteed it will be reliable and have fair running costs.

however owning a Kawa Versys1000, I probably agree with you that a 250kg bike is too heavy for offroad use. Got stuck in the mud once and took mee a lot of sweat to pull it out..

Good video but I have to point out that I think you are incorrect to say the Suzuki 1050 DE is the same price line as the Africa Twin. Maybe it's different in the UK but in Ireland I paid €16,400 for my new Suzuki 1050 DE, the cheapest AT is the CRF1100 STD A which starts at €18,400 let alone the Adventure Sports version which comes in at about €22,000. Plus the DE comes with engine bars, centre stand and quick Shifter as standard, they are all extra's on the AT's. Having owned two AT's prior to buying the 1050, I honestly think the DE is a better bike. The handling is better, the price is better, the standard equipment is better and the power is almost exactly the same.

Please, for the love of god.... put shaft drive on this thing and it would give BMW a run for their money. To be honest, I am steering towards a Yamaha Super Tenere and that is the only reason why.

  • @craigg4246

I bought the 2023 V-Strom over the BMW in part because it didn’t have shaft drive. Which adds unsprung weight, reduces ground clearance during off throttle corner entry, and has some handling quirks. Plus, in BMW’s case, their shaft drive system has had some major issues requiring recalls and modifications. Yeah, I have to clean, lube and adjust my chain, but I have been doing those chores for nearly 50 years and really don’t mind. I have put 12,500 miles on it in the first 5 months of ownership, and not a single thing has gone wrong, come loose, or caused any concern at all. I have changed the oil 5 times, replaced 1 set of front brake pads, 2 tires and 1 air filter. That is it. I just felt more peace of mind with a tried and true chain and a bike that has proven to be very long lived and reliable for hundreds of thousands of miles over the last 20 years. In my mind it only needs two things to be the perfect bike, and both of them are another 20 hp!

Given it’s a 90° twin, shouldn’t the V-Strom be called an L-Strom? Then again, given the new 800cc parallel twin being called a V-Strom, maybe the “V” is more for vacation or valiant? Anything but vaccine or vaccination. But, I quibble. I’ve bought new and owned three ‘Strom’s - cumulatively over 200 000 kilometers; they’re fine basic bikes. Looking back, my only advice is to consider buying a well cared for fully farkled pre-owned model.
