@@lineprofootball7632 Thanks for the reply! Over about one year I have been looking at football videos on KZread I think I'm offensive line "running the football" Centric. There is a good video on five-man protection. Maybe I should start learning how the defensive line works that way I could be more well-rounded. Implementing a deep passing game? How to maximum Blitz without giving up the Deep ball? Screen game? I never played a down of organized football but thanks to you too I can get in the clinics and watch videos like yours to make up for a lifetime worth the interest. I first learned of the gallop technique by a video by Sean Bell: Spencer Kibbie is the producer and I think he produced at 5 man protection with Philbin; I can't remember his first name...Joe.. ? Anyway, he was lambasting his tight ends during the clinic while watching the tape and how he was out of control getting to the middle linebacker by stumbling over his own right tackle. If the tight end instead of going out of control was Galloping he could have put the screws of his helmet under the middle linebackers chin. Yours was the only other video I watched that mention Gallup.

Like I wrote on your facebook side.... for the player.. Highschool... or other leagues in the world...like the little leagues in europe... not College level... is it not easy to make the decision when Step-Down or Gallop. I think if you have time for practice this 4-5 days / week ... it must be possible to build up the players to understand when to make the right decision. Maybe if you start with the Gallop ... and over the season to teach the players to switch from Gallop to Step-Down ... depending what the defense formation is, could be helpful to develop a better offense line play. Thanks for the video Coach Linny

Yes younger kids would struggle with the Gallop- it is a high level technique. I would have the kids step down more often and also focus on the guard’s block- which we will make a video for!

I am a tackle and guard and we call it deuce when the guard and the tackle double team that soon as at guard or the tackle have the person secure, one of us goes for the other play

I have a quick question. I play RG and its inside zone right and I have a 3 tech, one on one, would you recommend the gallop step on a solo block?

  • @lineprofootball7632

Great question. If he is in a normal alignment you can take a normal Drive step, but if he is wide you can take a quick square shuffle to close the gap and then drive through him. It has elements of a Gallop but I don’t think OL coaches would refer to it as a gallop.
