I love Octoberfest! But yeah, where are the 1L Beers?
Danke ;)
I doubt it. The BBC recently ran a segment on German speakers from Texas, but what they actually showed were clearly L2 speakers, who spoke standard German with grammatical errors like a native English speaker would make.
@GeLsEnKiRcHeN95 well saxony is sure not in nrw (we are descendants of the germanic tribe of the franks) as well as the alpen (they are in bayern/bavaria), maybe you meant the eifel? but you are correct with gelsenkirchen (known to most people only as schalke ;D) greetings from germany ;)
It is remarkably funny to hear that guy at 45 secs. pronouncing that German word in the accent he has.
By the way, as an addition to my first reply, I'd like to add that Evans is a Welsh name. An evans may have other types of ancestry though.
Just because a person's last name is not German does not mean that they do not have German ancestry. My surname is English but I am 1/8 German. :)
I was not aware of evans being german... every evans I have met is always claiming scotch-irish... I know where Saxony is, my grandparents actually live in an all german town in texas, very small town... but they originate from Nord-Rhein Westfalen... Alpen to be exact, so i've always used the screen name of Gelsenkirchen because its one of the bigger cities in North Rhine Westphalia.... grüße aus vereinigt staaten
I'd love to hear actual texas german, but I couldn't find any recordings.
I copied and pasted the link into the address box....but I could only get a page with a list of videos....so I don't know which one to watch. could you give me a direct link to the actual video?
/watch?v=tS1FpkQ08ig There's a few remaining Texas German speakers left and they talk a little bit in German.
party hard
LOVE IT! BUT, Wing is wrong. The south germans have the hard winters. The alps are in the south! GO GERMAN-TEXAN Heritage society
the beer has no foam?
LOL, that was pretty funny!
hmmm well, uh..... i'm at a loss for word then, my roots are in a texas german town.... so my last name is German =]
Oh cool. What is your last name?
How is wing evans the president? his last name is Evans..... not german....
The units of beer are too small. Normally in an Oktoberfest they serve beer in 1-litre mugs and eat grilled chicken. Also the music is a lot worse.
Does anyone still speak texan german?
Ummmmm Sorry.....Oktoberfest is from BAVARIA, which is in the SOUTH.....IT is a BAVARIAN festival, NOT an all-of-Germany festival. And I didn't know it had anything to do with harvest, it was invented in the 1800s in honor of the wedding of a prince and princess. DUHHHHHH
good for you! maybe you can take up an American club in another country that is of course assuming you have an americanized name =]
omg wie sieht denn die bockwurst aus?
Evans is the German Name 100% you forgot a lot of English names come from Germany as well that are English are German from Old Saxony. The English are Anglo-Saxon 100% German. Greetz from Saxony capital Dresden
My surname is English :)
this is like a Broke ass version of the Real Munchen Oktoberfest in Deutschland. They go way out... that fiddler dude was kickin some ass on that fiddle Wow hes good.
Really ? Ok, the vid is called "I Hate Britain Day", it is a spoof on being "English" or named "English" in America. No offense intended, thought it was funny and fitted your comment
Weurstfest is better!
Evans is not English, it is Welsh. Welsh people are not English. They are Celts. Perhaps there is a German name that is Evans too? :)
why always lederhosen? lol
the only culture we know from Germany is BAVARIA good or bad. Everything else was like oh the Berlin wall coming down as we have our wall going up in mexico/usa. go figure
Just because somebody doesn't have a German last name doesn't mean they don't have any Germany ancestry. DUHHH!!!! How ridiculous.....In America, most people are highly mixed. I have traced my ancestry to 11 countries! It is not uncommon.
Your last name is WHAT ? OMG !!!...hahaha watch this /watch?v=s0GX_qzwVi4 btw it is satire, just saying !!!
