Oktavism & Basso Profundo Compilation | C2 - C1 | Part 2

Музыка

“Simply put, the term oktavist is most precisely used to refer to basses that sing down to contra B flat and lower in a choral setting. Basso profundo is Italian in origin, and has a long history of clear definition within the operatic tradition, being subdivided into the categories of lyric and dramatic. While the term basso profundo comes from Italy and the opera tradition, oktavist has its roots in the choirs of Russia.”
Information, videos and notes taken mostly from the Oktavism channel. Big thanks to them for existing. Thanks also to Jay for helping me source some of the lower clips.
Tried to use some lesser known oktavists this time. No repeated clips (other than Zlat C1 as he's the only madman to have sung a live C1 in a choral setting)
Please watch part 1 before commenting that I missed a clip. It may be there.
Unknown = we don't know who sung it or I was simply unable to find out
There are inevitably mistakes in this video. Please let me know of any you find.
I don’t own the music, videos, photos, or anything in this video. Sue me.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Zlatopolsky is the lowest human voice that has ever existed. No vocal fry, no sub harmonics, just natural voice. And that’s such a beautiful thing.

well his voice has vocal fry. and the singing does have vocal fry just the sound he can change it to is amazing. sadly he died 2001 of course but. Yes the deepest voice ever existed I'd agree. But his speaking voice is deeper than his singing to my hears at least. Such as the interview kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZIB3ps5ufNu3hqw.html. But basically vocal fry is natural in voices

4:55 That unbelievably loud, rich and resonant, groundshaking G#1 sung by Zlatopolski with full power over the whole big choir is the best part. Maybe even the most impressive bass performance I've ever heard. Especially when you can see him live singing it without any effort or strain like it was an octave higher note. That low, that powerful - no effort! Compare it to Mr. Alatorre (himself being very decent deep bass singer) a moment before. Now one understands why Zlatopolski could go down over a half octave lower with his natural voice without any mic and still be audible in a choir setting.

I am amazed not just how low of cousre , but how difficult it is control the harmonic overtones (that are so so prone to go sharp) and the undertones that fight the singer and make the tone sound "muddy" when not right on top of the pitch. Just incredible. And the resolution at 6:04 G1 G major chord- chills!

Hello! I think that the "unknown Bulgarian Oktavist" at 10.50 might well be the extremely well known Bulgarian bass, Nicolai Ghiaurov, one of the greatest opera singers of his day in the late 20th century. He performed with all the opera greats including Pavarotti and was married to the splendid and legendary soprano, Mirella Freni.

All oktavists are basses, not all basses are oktavists. Oktavists are especially low bass singers, who can project notes in the 1st octave above a choir. Most basses sing in the second octave and blend in with everyone else. TL:DR - Oktavists are basses on steroids

@@ethanmorrow5623 it sucks cause I can hit really low notes at speaking tone, like down to G1 sometimes when I hold a tuner to my mouth. However projecting a loud sound probably C2 is the lowest I could resonate if there was a choir.
