Oklahoma vs. Ohio State (1977)

Спорт

In a game remembered by its final play, Uwe von Schamann directed the Ohio State faithful in a chant of "Block that kick!" before nailing the game-winner to dash their hopes.

This field goal is imprinted on this old brain forever. I nearly jumped as high as the kick was.

I absolutely love Oklahoma football even though I’m a Jayhawker transplanted to California. Leading up to this game, I had boasted and made small bets to half of what seemed like Sacramento. I received nasty phone calls through out the game, and got so irritated I answered the phone with “Dial a prayer, you’re going to need them” and then would immediately hang up. When Ohio fans started cheering so loudly they couldn’t hear the plays and Ewe started cheerleading I knew we had it in the bag. I called back every one of those suckers proving I was a worse winner than I was a loser. That game is the best game I ever watched and I don’t think I’ve missed one single game since 1965. What a treat, what fun, what a team. Boomer Sooner!

Ohio State and Oklahoma are to be admired for playing these intersectional games.

...No Shit! ...think you'll ever see Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Florida State, Clemson, Miami, Georgia, Arizona State or Tennessee will ever schedule a home & home w/ any schools in the north?!!! ...HELL NO!!! (& sorry, home & home w/ Missouri, OU & Okie State doesn't count) ...& do you think they'd ever schedule a game up north say after November 10th?!!! ...AGAIN...HELL NO!!! ...Hey Nick & Dabo, schedule a game in places like Ames, Iowa, Manhatten, Kansas, Minneapolis, Minnesota or Morgantown, West Virginia in November & I'll start to buy in to all the hype!

What a game! Unbelievable finish. Von Schamann had a decent NFL career but I don't think he was much of a cheerleader

I remember Woody Hayes the crazy unsportsmanlike coach of Ohio State slaps the hell out of an OU manager. I felt like beating the hell out of him but that was when I was wild and violent and I think just gone through a divorce lol. Woody. Ohio State and Oklahoma are dynasties so it’s just icing on a big cake.

the Bully Woody was not a great coach. he would be in prison and broke if he were still alive today. chocking, slapping, and punching opponents while refusing to shake the hand of the opposing coach is not great. we all know his infamous choking of the clemson player that led to his firing, but if you see the complete broadcast of this game on youtube, you can see the bully woody slap the sooners equipment manager at midfield while blowing off the great Switzers attempt to shake his hand. Other video has him assaulting michigan players in the tunnel, etc. One has to wonder if he was doing this on national TV, what was he doing behind closed doors?

"the Bully Woody was not a great coach"... You are an idiot. Five national titles, 13 Big Ten championships, but he wasn't great? People like are just too stupid to debate. You could have said you didn't care for him, that he was temperamental, that he too hot-headed for his or his team's own good... but you went the one place that makes you sound moronic. What a dope...

Smug Switzer got his just reward. Prior to the '78 Orange Bowl, Arkansas head coach Lou Holtz suspended three starters, including leading rusher Ben Cowins. (Something Switzer NEVER would have done to any of his players) They weren't missed. Arkansas hammered Boomer Sooner, 31 - 6.
