Hello everyone this is Shuto from Zipangu Times.
Traveling in Okinawa is quite different style comparing to main island of Japan. The big difference is there's no train transportation in Okinawa.
Actually they have monorail from airport to city, centre of Okinawa but it does not cover broad.
So if you travel in Okinawa, you would see 3 type of transportation.
Bus, Taxi and Rent a car.
As i told you, they have monorail from airport to city centre called “Naha” but, since most of the tourist spots are outside of Naha, you rarely take that.
So Okinawa is car society.
So you should rent a car when you visit Okinawa.
