Sign me up . . . I wish! I didn't know they had self serve gas stations in Okinawa - we always pulled into Enos that was full service -- fun tour of a rental house.

You said retire in okinawa? Is that becoming a popular retirement spot? There isn't a lot of content on youtube about retiring in okinawa. Its usually thailand, malaysia or vietnam. I've noted these rent subsidized houses close to the bases are pretty pricey compared to the other islands there but to be fair they'are usually bigger and built to usa specs with full sized stoves and clothes dryers.. I've also noticed the real estate websites for foreigners have higher prices than japanese language websites.
