I don't think it'll be a straight up re-release. Another big and constantly coming up rumor is backwards compatibility, so I get the sense that 1) This is being made as an easy way to show the power difference between Switch 1 and Switch 2 and 2) That this will also just be some sort of upgrade you get by putting in Switch 1 BotW into Switch 2, similar to how putting PS4 games in PS5 can make them look/play better.

@@Explanda1 I get the sense that it is. Nintendo knows how well the Switch sold and how well BotW sold. Re-releasing with NO upgrade plan for those who bought it on Switch just seems too stupid even for Nintendo, especially if backwards compatibility is on the table.

I really, really hope they don't do this. At least during the Wii u era Nintendo had a reason to port so many of their games to the switch, because they didn't sell. It would be really weird seeing remasters coming out already on the next generation, especially when you consider other companies are already doing this. Hopefully it just refers to some kind of enhancements for breath of the wild on the new system...

​@fancypants7610 from my understanding, ps5 has had upgrade plans for a majority of ps5 version games, being free or a small fee, with the only exceptions being demon souls and the last of us since they were ground up remakes. Over anything else, I would prefer they went the ps5 route here.

weird thought but the "OZ" in the name could actually mean "ounce" and imply its very light/easy to move around. which in turn could mean they're making it even easier to play with friends than the switch was

I don't think Breath of the Wild is getting remastered as a launch title for the new system, not because of reverse hopium copium, but because, being that it's most likely a direct sequel to the Switch, it having backwards compatibility with the Switch is pretty much a given.

...I think it's just a way they can reprint a popular game from 2017 for a potential new audience who might have missed it. In the Big Specs Leak there wasn't anything to suggest the new console had *native* 4K support (it also has to be a handheld) so I highly doubt that Nintendo would pull an "upgrade fee" for activating DLSS in their games (crossing my fingers they don't). Nintendo's also done rereleases of games with DLC included as well, putting DLC on physical carts/disc when it's finished seems to be something they like doing, off the top of my head I remember they did that with MK8 on the Wii U. Anyways I feel like all upgrades are going to be like playing a 3DS game on a New 3DS, it's just going to come from inherently running an older game on better hardware, and you didn't have to pay a fee to get better load times in Smash 4

I mean it makes sense that they were rumors of the breath of the wild HD version because we had no information about the tears of the kingdom at the time we knew there was a sequel but we didn't know anything about it so it would only make sense to me if they gave you like a double ability where if you have both tears of the kingdom and breath of the wild for the release of the switch too if they give you both of them as a free upgrade to the HD versions of them since those being paired together would be a very fast way to get your player base to sync hundreds of hours into the games again because they're brand new with their HD versions

Would be neat to see them joined together, with extra story between the two. BotW doesn't really have enough story imo, but having the final flight just be a plot point at the 1/5th point through the game would be cool

Botw remastered? It is already on PC. Can't remember when was the last time I play the game on my switch, lately is either on my PC or my steamdecks.

Here's my take on the situation: I believe that the rumors surrounding backwards compatibility are true and that the OG Switch version of Breath of the Wild will be playable on Switch 2, and it will run better thanks to the hardware enhancements but it won't be updated to take advantage of the new Switch 2 features. If you want the fancy graphics and DLSS, you have to get this enhanced port. I believe Nintendo will at least offer an upgrade path for those who already have the game so they don't have to pay full price though.

This would not be good, it would give nintendo every reason to artificially limit Switch games running on the next system to force them to have the same performance limitations as they would on original Switch hardware. There is absolutely no reason they couldn't release a small patch to the base game to change it's output resolution and framerate depending on which system it's running on

I’ve been thinking a botw remaster makes so much sense for a launch title alongside an original non-competing launch title like Mario kart 9 for agesssss Botw has been held back since launch and there’s clear demand for botw to look better and run better so a remaster with dlc packed in, custom shrines and leaderboards and (ala links awakening) ray tracing makes so much sense and I’m up for it! (Far fetched additions but for example) It’s nowhere near the same situation as last of us botw does deserve a remaster

"U-King" was the internal codename for the Wii U version of BotW, the Switch version was codenamed "U-King-S" "-S" was the suffix added to the codename of all the Switch ports This Switch 2's codename seems to be "Ounce" so "U-King-O" would essentially translate to "BotW Switch 2 port"
