Make sure with these GE boxers that the oiling process is done all the way. It works for a while doing it through the front and rear but to do it properly, you need to tear the entire motor down and remove the rotor. You'll want to use a good rapid evaporating cleaner (I prefer brake cleaner) to get all the dried up oil out of the bearing and off of the rotor shaft. I've had it where I oil them without doing the cleaning and they stiffen back up in a week and eventually lead to bearing failure due to the crazy amount of friction heat on top of the existing high motor temps (average temp is between 110 and 130 degrees for these). It is very important to do that with these style motors. I usually use mobil 1 synthetic 5w-50 motor oil for GE bearings. Zoomspout is great but it seems to work much better on other fans. The thicker 5w-50 just seems to do a better job in a GE motor. I averaged a spindown on both 5 wing and 3 wing models around 45 seconds on zoomspout and with the 5w-50 after a full cleansing and lubrication most average around a minute and 10 seconds. Figured I would share this info to help out so they can run at their peak condition.

Thanks for the info. I actually did tear down the F11 W13 motor and cleaned it out once. The F15 W13 had such a long spin down time that I didn't want to mess with it, but I'm sure the oil is probably a little gummy. I will try using the thicker oil next time I have these apart. Mike tend to run at around 135 degrees. My F11 W16 runs at 170 degrees. I have also taken that motor apart for cleaning and oiling.

In my vid I used 3 in 1 on the oil funnel and there is another area in the front that you need to oil also. Great video.

Thanks. Someone else recommended that I try engine oil next time I service these fans. I’ve used 3 in 1 before though and it works.

Nice fans. I oil mine the same way but unfortunately I'm on my 3rd motor because the windings keep burning out. GE hasn't made a replacement motor for these fans since 1984, so I have to buy junk fans that still run and use the motors in my '58 Electrically Reversible fan. Have you had an issue with windings burning out?

I've been pretty lucky with these so far. None of them have burned out. Usually these motors are very reliable, so I'm surprised yours keeps burning out. Do they just fail with no warning?
