Oil Leak from Corsa D oil pressure switch? Cheap easy fix.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Very common oil leak on Corsa D & C's 1.2 engines. It's through the pressure switch and is an easy fix.
Here's how we did it.

    Thank you very much for this. We just grabbed a 2012 ecoflex for our newly driving 17 y/o and this happened right away. The car is a gem but 50 miles into to driving it the radiator, ground and crossmember plate were covered in oil and it will certainly be this. The placement of the spurt and drip is most certainly right in this area and the oil pressure light came on the dash with no code. Simple but stupid and will be a super easy fix. Cheers mate

    @@dazzahaywood3298 . Yes, there will be a torque figure for the drain plug, but I normally do it by feel. The seal wouldn't normally be rubber, but a copper or fibre washer, or a dowty seal

    These switches are a pain in the backside! I changed it on my Mum's car only 4 years ago and it's gone and done it again! It was worse this time as she was down to the last notch of oil and the engine sounded awful.

    I replaced the oil pressure switch on my daughters only about a month ago and the oil light has come on tonight and oil is again leaking from the connector but I've noticed from this video that the connector plug doesn't fit tightly and it looks like there might be a bit missing off the plug, is it easy to replace the connector itself? Thanks

  • @LarcsWorkshop

    @@MillerExplores . People on here have said that they've had replacement pressure switches fail prematurely too. The plug shouldn't need to hold back any oil. If it's just the plastic part that's damaged, you could probably get a replacement from a breakers yard and unpin the old one into the replacement one. Good luck sorting it out 🤞.

    My Tigra showed engine and oil warning light. Engine cut out in under a minute.This switch was all oily. Did this job today. Oil stick shows full, warning lights still on, engine cuts out almost instantly. Looking down into the bay there is oil sitting on some sheet metal down there. Also seems to be oil around rocker cover. Any advice please? Thanks!

    Well if the pressure switch is now ok, it sounds like there may be a bigger issue. Could be any number of things unfortunately, things that spring to mind are:- faulty oil pump, blocked oil pump pickup, blocked oil filter, faulty oil pressure relief valve. Do a Google search on your cars common oil pressure issues, you might find an answer. Poor servicing can cause some of the above issues. Good luck sorting it out 🤞.

  • @LarcsWorkshop

    @LarcsWorkshop

    It could be, but it also could come on for a genuine low oil pressure. Check your oil level etc. first. In my Audi TT video, the pressure switch was faulty and I tested it to prove it. Good luck sorting it out 🤞.

    @@LarcsWorkshophi mate, thanks for your response, I’m just wondering why the light is only on when the vehicle is stationery and turns off when it starts moving, obviously i haven’t driven it loads with the lights but it’s strange have you got any ideas as to why it’s doing this?

  • @LarcsWorkshop

    @LarcsWorkshop

    Жыл бұрын

    @@losiryam5317 The oil pump is internally driven by the engine so as the revs go up, the oil pump turns faster, and the oil pressure goes up too (up to a point). "Generally" low oil pressure at low revs would point to a worn engine, however, there are other things that can cause it, like:- A faulty pressure switch giving a false reading. Oil level too low. Too thin oil in the engine or oil contaminated. Oil filter blocked due to poor servicing. Engine sludged up due to poor servicing. This is just a few things that could cause it. Best of luck sorting it out 🤞.
