Aluminum is very thermally conductive. It will draw heat away from the engine bay opposed the that plastic piece which is more of an insulator. The effects of either are probably minimal being that they are underneath (warm air rises) and separated by air. But if anything the skid plate will act as somewhat of a heat sink.

Great vid as always Jr. Been running one for about two years, definitely makes oil changes easier. Only complaint I have is it does corrode slightly over time. Might suggest getting the painted one or coating the bare aluminum.

I've been wanting to get one of these for my STI, and as far as the drain plug goes, you could swap ports on your next oil change, it would be the prefect time to do it.

I have that skid plate. My header touched one spot, and started to melt it. I had to add 1/3" spacers to drop alittle lower

this is the type of improvement parts I want. the stock cover is an unnecessary PITA to put back in. Ordering one right now. Still waiting on a good replacement head unit.

Great video dude! I'm a little late to the comments section since the video posted, but I just installed the rally version of the skid plate from TBW on my 2018 wrx sti. I noticed the U clips don't fit over the 3/16" metal on the very left and very right (where you have 10mm bolt/uclip marked). Are there different depths for U clips that I can buy? What do you recommend?

Have you run the plate against snow? We get heavy snow in the Midwest and I already tore off one of my fender brackets by the tire and really debating this purchase for the 2020 STi. Since install, any issues? Appreciate you doing this video. I didn’t know they made skids for the 2020.

I had the same type of scratches when I got my skid plate as well. I just put Sharkhide on to protect the bare metal if they company put a protective coating on it. Ordered both through Amazon pre- COVID..... Looks good! BTW, MD Major Melon good stuff! Lol

What's the effect on the front jack point? Looks like it's unusable after install which would make jacking up the car without a lift more of a pain.

Installed mine. Only flaws are it makes contact with mi toemi headers. And it rattles. Out side of that it looks good.

That black piece is just a safety. I doubt the valve will ever open up on it's own.

Better than the plastic under tray.

Is your oil temp gauge working good? I have an STI and is debating to go cheap or not on the oil temp gauge

I doubt it will work since the hood scoop opening is a little larger than stock,.

I ran out of Roki filters and have them on order.

Can you check your clearance on your ELH? I heard there is occasionally clearance issues and if they touch it will melt the skid plate.

First thing I bought 2 years ago.

Honestly it's an under body part I wouldn't give a shit about scratches, how do you think it'll look in 25k miles? It's aluminum it'll be oxidized and scratched to hell BUT it's not for looks I'm sure it makes for a great heatsink of sorts and keeps everything much more protected than plastic.

Any idea if this will fit the moroso oil pan ?
