It would be a big help to show the engine under the hood at the beginning. This will let the viewer see if this video is applicable to their vehicle. Sure this is basic knowledge from vehicle to vehicle. What many viewers are looking for is the location, the type of oil drain plug , hex head, torx Head, and such... the size wrenches or torx bits to use..

As is evident by the comments below, the 2003-2007 Saturn Vue models all look the same on the outside, but inside is a different matter. My original 2003 indeed had the paper oil filter element contained in a housing (something I hadn't seen since my 1971 Series IIA Land Rover) but my later 2007 uses the more typical can type fully disposable filter. My understanding is that Saturn, in their attempt to get a reliable Continuously Variable Transmission, referred to by GM as the VTi transmission to market, rushed one out in late 2002. Never really brought up to par, it was canceled in 2005. In the meantime, they went between several different 4 and 6 cylinder engines, until the final Honda 3.5L V6 J35S1 engine was fitted from 2004-2007. The point to all this is that the 2004-2007 3.5 Liter engine oil filter is the only V-6 offered by Saturn in those production years. Changing the oil and filter would also be the same. The drain plug is on the back left side of the engine and is16mm (17mm seen) When removing it, guess what... a lot of oil gushes out. Go figure. Be prepared. The oil filter is opposite, on the front right side near the control arm. You'll either know it when you see it, or you shouldn't be doing this by yourself. Once again, removing it will spill a lot of oil, so be prepared. Keeping it as upright as possible will allow you a few more seconds before you pour the entire can full of old engine down your sleeve. One advantage of changing your oil yourself is that you can allow all the old stuff to drain out. The inside of your engine has lots of places all coated with the old oil, so try not to rush letting it drain. To refill, clean the area around the oil drain plug and replace the plug - with the new washer. Experience has shown this to be far more effective than trying to fill the engine with oil before replacing the plug. Wipe the seat for the oil filter really clean, then rub a finger dipped in fresh oil on both sides of the gasket (if provided) or the rubbery rim of the filter. This helps it form a better leak-proof seal. Screw it on hand tight - DO NOT use a tool, just get it as tight as you can. Finally, refill your engine with 5 quarts of the proper oil, and you should be ready to go.
Great video, good length, and very concise. Please add the socket size next time, that's the only criticism I have. I wish all car vids on here were as well done as yours. Thank you!
Title is still incorrect. My '03 Vue has a metal oil filter housing, as others noted.
this video is for a 2004 through 2007 V6 with the Honda engine as mentioned
I believe this only applies to the v6 Honda engines in them like mine.
NOTE: The oil filter is going to hold some oil. After changing the oil and then driving the car for a few minutes, turn the car off and leave it off for at least a few hours (or overnight ). Then, pull out the oil dipstick, wipe it off, re-dip it (put it back in -- ALL THE WAY, and check it again. You may find that the oil level is a quarter or half quart low (the filter is now full). Add the oil. I'd check it again the next day. If it's low again, it probably means oil is leaking somewhere; maybe the oil plug or oil filter was not put back on correctly. You'll want to figure out the cause and fix it immediately, so you don't destroy your engine.

Because filter is vertical, I put new oil in the new oil filter, before installing it, always.

I always wondered why the oil level went down the next day. It makes so much sense, and totally went over my head. I just always wondered why I always had to refill after every lube job. Thanks again.
Quite a bit of confusion on the Vue oil change. No one on the net can tell you a part number for the oil filter so how can you trust anyone at the parts store? Also my owners manual says use only 5-20. Here they are using 10-30. AutoZone's web site does not even show the correct engine for the car.

10-30 and 5-20 are fairly similar and are adjustable due to climate. If you are really confused on which oil filter to use just call your local GMC dealer and they should be able to point you in the right direction. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the help! Including the socket size would have been a plus, but other than that it was gold.
The oil plug on my 2003 Saturn View doesnt look anything like that, and the filter is covered. I have a torx on my oil drain plug. What size, who knows? What a stupid idea, seems like it would strip easily.

JoAnn Griefnow that torx shit will have to be broken off with a pipe to loosen it off

It’s a T45 torx and the filter 🤦♂️ gm thought it was better than a standard oil filter... that’s a 15/16 btw
The title is still wrong. My 2003 is a cartridge - probably like Arthur's. And it is not the same concept. The filter is changed from the top and requires totally different tools.
Thank you
Our title was wrong and now changed. This is a 2004-2007 Saturn Vue but still the basic concept on the repair.

2CarPros my Saturn Vue is a 06 in the filter is a paper filter located on top of the engine
The dip stick on mine says to use 5w-20 oil and it's the same engine as in this video

Bob O use it.
Drain plug is 17mm.
This doesn't look anything like my 2002 Saturn Vue
this doesnt apply for a saturn vue v6 its got an aluminum tube holding the oil filter in
My parent's 2005 Saturn Vue 4cyl has a 15mm oil drain bolt but I did not see a gasket on the bolt and neither on your video. I guess it isn't necessary on some oil drain bolts?

You should have one. It prevents leaks. Thanks for watching!
Different process for 2002-2005 models. Disappointing. The oil filter for these models is located to the right side of the engine, in a case that can only be removed with a 1.25in shallow socket and extension.

We will research this and fix the title, thanks for the comment.
Which socket size is on that drainplug

It's a Saturn so 11/16 should do it. The most idiotic choice possible.
Wow this is nothing like my 2002 Saturn Vue, the drain plug is a HEX bolt, and the oil filter is not anything like the conventional one shown. Maybe I have the Korean version?
You shouldn't just throw a dry filter on! pour oil in the filter. Usually takes about a quart or so. This will make sure there is an oil supply to the engine on start up.

The oil filter fills up within a second. You can if you want to but it really isn't necessary anymore. Thanks for watching!

That's really only needed if you have a remote oil filter, any filter on the block will fill within seconds.
the Honda engine calls for 5w 20 and you are using 10w 30 why?

I doubt you or the engine could ever tell the difference. This was also a fairly worn engine so a thicker oil was in order anyways. Thanks for watching!
I don't see that under my car. Is it just me? im sure its a gooid video., I'll watch the others
Well where is the god damned oil filter?
