1970's music. I love it. The Ohio Players was one of the best funk bands from that era. The horn section, high octane vocals, drums and most of all (Sugar Foot). Wow!!! What a band!

Yes yes mr. Brown, my sentiments exactly. The Ohio Players in their own right cannot be compared to from that era. When you heard them you knew immediately it was them. What a time it was. Even during the early days with Junie. He was the real bomb. Between him and Sugarfoot I was always in stitches!

I was fortunate to grow up in Dayton, Ohio, funk was around our city in such great force it was normal to see national artists on an everyday basis just in passing, Ohio Players, Heatwave, Dayton, Slave, Steve Arrington (hall of fame), Faz O, Lakeside. Roger Troutman, Zapp, all came from Daytons westside, and I still see the ones that are still with us on occasion.

As an ex-sax, flute player from '70's and, true, we have our own preferences yet think about what you said. Sure, it 'sets them apart' and I agree but it's their style! Nobody sounded quite like them. Parliament/Funkedics had their own style, too, yet Players' musicianship, as you said, puts them in my Top 10 (okay, Top 5) R&B& Jazz 'bands' of ALL time! I love Players and saw them play this live.

Sugarfoot is not only a great player but a mighty strong man toting that Moserite 6/12 double neck guitar around! Those were hand crafted well built instruments . I've never played one but i imagine some weight to 'em.

I bought a Saxophone and Trumpet when I was Hustling. Learned to play by ear. I can imitate anything if I hear it 1 time. Use to play in a park. Not knowing Some Melenated jazz Musicians were watching. I was about 28 then they were 60 +. They invited Me in, coached and taught Me. I love the horns.

I just saw the Ohio Players at the Hollywood Bowl on 8/25/17. They were one of the opening bands for Dave Koz. When I saw that they were going to be there, I knew I had to go! I googled and found out that all the original members were gone. It didn't matter to me. I drove 3hrs and stayed in Los Angeles to see them. The Ohio Players I did see put on a great show, everyone there love them, including myself.

Greg Webster is the only "original" Westbound Ohio Player left alive!! Marvin, was a Westbound and Mercury player but not original and yes he is still alive as well. Diamond, Chet, Billy, and Cumba Jones " Percussion" Mercury crew are still alive.

I really miss those days. I remember having a layover in Seoul, Korea in the summer of 1977. I went to a local club for a bit but things were kinda slow. There was this giant juke box with a great sound system. Looking through the songs I found this one, Love Rollercoaster and Skin Tight. The club started jumpin’!! Halfway across the world and the Players were knockin it out!!

I was fortunate enough to be stationed at Wright-Patt when the Players were hot! When it was no big deal to see Sugarfoot driving around downtown Dayton in a VW bug, & Roger Troutman or Steve Arrington talking outside their studio doing whatever. Thank you for posting this sample of the funky good times that they created.
