Ohio Central Hits a Gate!
OHCR local freight arrives in Cambridge with a short train being pulled by a single B23-7 loco. After switching a few cars it the yard, OC heads west to Bennett Ave. crossing and picks up 2 hoppers from the city department. Wile exiting, a gate connected to a fence catches on the train and rips it down.

The train blowing the horn after the gate gets fubared is the funniest part
"Well, that's the sound of somebody else's problem"

Trains don't hit things. Things get in trains' way
The "close clearance" signs were apparently understatements.
I use to go with my father as a child early morning to this station to pick up casketed remains shipped by train.
I'm an old railroader who has seen this type of thing happen several times over the years. Nice video by the way.
The C&M was the PRR----Cleveland and Marietta line. From Cambridge to the north for many miles, the line was right next to I-77. The line was embargoed right after CR. Just before they began ripping out the line, they were told they had a car in Marietta. So CR sent down a engine to pick it up. They began ripping the line in 1981, north of Cambridge.
Wow, the sound of that engine gives me goosebumps!!!
I drove an Sw-1500 this summer in a transload facility, and often the truckers would park way too close to the tracks in this curve area. I knew most of these guys pretty well as it was usually the same guys that would come into the yard, so I would honk my horn and lean out the window and yell, "MINE IS BIGGER THAN YOURS GET OUT OF THE WAY." One time I was on foot on a scale and one of the guys almost hit me as a joke. He was like hey man this truck's a lot bigger than you you should stay out if its way. The next day I was moving some grain cars and his truck was on the road crossing. I rolled up to the clearance point for the crossing and leaned out the window and over the radio I was like, "oh how the tables have turned." Lmao.
I would say more accurately that it was the gate that hit the train. Of course, no contest!
Lol I like how they didn't even notice anything and the keep on going XD btw I subbed your channel and liked as well
A similar incident occurred at the Jackson Street Roundhouse a few years ago. I was riding in the cab of Northern Pacific 105 and I felt a jolt and I saw a gate dragging on my side (conductor side). The engineer noticed this but carried on with the caboose ride. The gate did come off though.
about 1980, i was at this depot. late in the day, and a east bound B&O had just arrived. The crew got off and i talked to them for a while. they mentioned"the furthest western most tunnel on B&O was just west of here."
On the railroad I worked on, we had a the same type of gate that didn't quite latch on pole and the movement of the cars going through caused it to close between two cars and get all bent up.
Wow. Never seen anything like it. Hope they fix it! Thanks for sharing!
Hey boss we need a new gate... old one got in way on train hahaha
They didnt have the gate opened all the way and the first hopper car hit it when it was on the curve.
This is Ohio Central's conribution to the 11'8" legacy!
