The Doctor has noticed a minor mistake in your story what should you do? Your Options are -Pretend you were lying -Say you got out of shape -Say you lied in your file -Reveal yourself to be the master and then blow up the plane. Honestly the Master would make a terrible spy, blows his cover after the first sign of questioning.

Every time the Master regenerates he must immediately start thinking about how to set up the next big reveal

What I love about the Master is that he/she can't resist a big reveal. This Master could have EASILY came up with another lie like "I lied on my resume" or something but he decided nah! Big reveal time! And why? Because he loves to see the shock on his/her face when it's revealed because she's surprised every bloody time. He loves it, the disguises and pretending to be the one thing the doctor can't resist! A kind and lovely human being.

The Master probably forgot which side of the chest the human heart is. He had two hearts all his life, and he probably touched the wrong side because it looked correct in the mirror and he didn't consider how reflections always flipped directions.

He just killed him and assumed his form just like how Eobard Thawne became Harrison Wells. And the original O is human so he'd have his heart on the left side like everyone. The Master would feel a second heart on his right side because he's a Time Lord. And if taking O's shape involved regenerating and thinking of O in that process, then of course the Master would still have two hearts in O's form.

@@shockykun2250 Just not true at all. As has already been stated, 10 was horrified, 12 was borderline with Missy, but then 12 was also really horrified when the Master revealed himself again. That was true horror, as he rightly assumed he wouldn’t be likely to see him again, especially not in that specific situation. As for 13‘s reaction, I reckon the writers intended for her to believe him to be dead after Missy "died," though it’s not likely she actually knew Missy died on the colony ship. With that in mind, that reaction is more than justified. Jodie‘s Doctor wasn’t written well at all in series 11 (aside from a couple good moments), but in series 12 she had much better material to work with, and it mostly showed (regardless of opinion on the timeless child, she stood out in those last 3 episodes).

@@metalswifty23 10 was only horrified because he thought all the timelords were dead tbh I, and this is my opinion, think that 10 was more like I need to save him or protect him. Wasn’t really scared.

You have to give massive props to Sacha Dhawan for his acting in this episode. He managed to transform from one extreme to the other with one smile. It's amazing.

It’s not just the smile even, his posture, his gaze, how he tilts his head down to look up at people, the manic energy he produces with minor changes. He transformed, I can’t even recognise O and the Master as one and another

Compared to the Daleks and the Cybermen he has appeared pretty rarely in the revived series. He only appeared twice in the first seven series. And while Missy was in all of Capaldis season she was a fresh spin on the usualy madman character that is the Master.

1:36 The Doctor says that she met O years ago. I really like the implication that the Doctor (probably an earlier incarnation) crossed paths with O before, without knowing his true identity. Imagine if, say, the Twelfth Doctor met O while he had Missy locked in the vault, not realizing that this person was also the Master? Or if the Tenth Doctor met O during the time when he believed the Master to be dead? It's a cool concept.

Smithy Chris There is a reason for that though. It’s not that most of them just hate women or something. It just so happens that it’s really hard to find a story that’s both “Woke” and well written. It seems like these writers think they have to choose between them for some reason, so it seems like there actually intentionally sabotaging there own work (Which some of them are actually doing believe it or not). Since this isn’t just happening with doctor who but a bunch of different franchises that have been taken over by similar people, they naturally group together woke and bad writing.

The pacing is great, the storylines are interesting and the writing is so much better so the actors have more to work with.

I saw the thumbnail of the video too before I watched it on Prime, but I didn't actually click on it (thank god), so I thought it was just some random dude discussing the Master's history. Thus, the actual reveal took me by complete surprise and I loved it! This is one time I'm thankful for being so oblivious that I didn't even recognize the actor himself when he showed up (though, I did only glance at the thumbnail before moving on, so it obviously didn't stick).

@@yaddle92 Isn’t it effectively confirmed that he is after Missy? Missy regenerated into a form she called the Lumiat, and still continued to be good. Missy actually killed the Lumiat, which lead to the current Master. Missy speculated that the next incarnation wouldn’t be good, but I don’t think even she could have envisioned what was coming.

@@SeanWheeler100 I get a lot of people hate that... my main issue was that it had shit ass fuck execution. Something similar was already planned in classic who but never got to be used. It's just then it had tons of well place foreshadowing and build up.

Now that is an actor. The way he just switched from background character. To evil in your face. Absolutely amazing.

Mr Critical very good point! It seems like there’s a constant follow through of the Doctor and the Master both having weird child like fascinations with earth culture. I know they’re aliens but it’s fun seeing how an evil genius can just go quoting wizard of oz like he watches on the regular, though if he’s the Master after Missy then that makes sooooooooo much sense since she would definitely compare herself to the Wicked Witch lool......hell maybe it’s a cheeky reference to him once being missy????

I think this is actually a previous regeneration, after the last mastered regenerated as there was too much character development for missy for it to all turn back. I’m hoping it is anyway but knowing Chris Chibnall he might just say “oh yeah none of that development before means anything” Also it’s incredibly rare for time lords to switch gender so whilst male to female to male would be possible I doubt it

I feel like the Doctor needs at least one companion like Jack or the Brigadier who is willing to at least punch a baddie. His back is turned while he's gloating - knock the guy out!

Thought the line could be sold a bit more it sounds very casual which contradicts the audio that makes it build up tension. Bit of an anticlimax

This is why The Master is my favorite Doctor Who villain. His return is the definition of unpredictable. (He's the reason why I started watching the show again.)

To be fair - he hasn't been off-screen long. Since Season 8 with Jon Pertwee - he has been surprisingly regular, with a couple of sabbaticals in the midst of Tom Baker; The Master rarely skips more than 2 series; and much more often would be both predictable and dull.

I love how, throughout the episode, O is so calm and polite, and then when the reveal happens, he's so excited he's like a soda that's been shaken up and opened. So fun. I don't even care if this makes any sense for the timeline or if they ever explain how Missy survives, I'm just so happy to have the Master back.

I mean it wouldn't take much. Say Missy was lying about not remembering the events when she was Simms. That being the case she knew Simms would kill her. She prepared some kind of shield to negate the blast but to keep the timeline consistent she still had to appear to die from Simms perspective. Following the elevator door closing she regenerated. That or they could just say O is the incarnation between Simms and Missy. He definitely has much more of Simms chaotic energy to him so that would make sense.

@@jowarren1558 I mean really they can pull a Master from wherever they want on the timeline. I suspect they won't go into too much detail about it. Probably a throwaway line or two. Series 11 was supposed to be a fresh start from the rest of the series. The last thing they'd want to do is give a deep dive lore dump about precisely how this Master fits into the timeline. That would alienate new fans. The same way Simms got a line like "how did you survive" "oh you banished me to Galifrey, my condition was easy to fix there, then I left." O will probably only get something along the lines of "how did you survive" "It takes a lot more than a lazer screwdriver to kill me." or "I knew him but this, this is him from a long time ago. Not long after we met when he was properly unhinged. Things with him are all out of order." It won't be deeper than that.

The fact that I knew beforehand that Sacha was playing The Master and this moment still managed to shock me just shows how well-executed the whole build-up was. Sacha and Jodie are amazing in this double episode, their on-screen chemistry is undeniable. He was the best thing to happen in series 12 and I truly hope he comes back in the near future.

He could tell a lie, sure, but she is too smart, she could have started to get suspicious, and that would make everything more difficult to him for escape the trap, so, revealing himself would upset and get out of balance to the Doctor, perfect to take the advantage while she is in shock, so, no, the revealing was not just a whim, was actually pretty smart and show how much he knows her.

I should wait until Part 2 for more Context. I liked the Classic Master call back... Didn't much like the Childish hand clapping seen at the end of the Clip. Not sure I'd see that from any of the Original Series Masters. Going to have to rewatch this segment again... Maybe if he nails a sinister laugh. I can look past his enthusiasm... (Also, missed opportunity for the Master to try and Mind Control 1 or more of the Doctor's Companions... Probably waiting for next episode?)

@@philipthegreat4126 I was really hoping for a return to form with this new Master. In the first few moments of the reveal, I could sort of see the Delgado/Ainley master flickering in. But as soon as the laugh happened, it became all silly and pedantic Missy-esque Master again. So far, the only classic Master we've had in new who was Derek Jacobi, the rest have never even been close. I love the actor, don't get me wrong, but I just wish we had a cunning and cruel Master of the classic series, combined with the madness and rage we've seen glimmers of in classic, that were brought forward with Simm.

The change in character when he says "got me"... it's so good ahh

But to be typical, it had to be either a woman (like missy last year) or a black (like this one) to meet those diversity quotas. Jodie recently said that the doctor was originally a girl before becoming the doctor and she cant wait to see it shown. Thats two middle fingers to real fans. This episode makes so much more sense now. Why the invasion of a universe starts with earth? Because where else would The Doctor notice? Why the 'only guy' who could help lived in the deep outback? Only the Doctor could get there at a moments notice. He called himself 'O' because it would be the first thing she said when she realized his cover made no sense. Genocide is The Master's flirting, indeed.

Usually the character skips one Doctor to face the next one, 9th didn't face him and neither did 11th; or he just takes a long time to turn up. Glad he is here though, Whittakers Doctor needed someone to really really challenger her, and bring up her past.

@@valerianaranjocruz25 There are no rules in Doctor Who. There's no "usually." A show doesn't survive five decades by adhering to rules and the concept of usually. But, if there were rules, then that would not be one. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 all faced the Master onscreen. That's 6 Doctors in a row who met the Master.

In my personal ranking, it's a toss up as to whether Dhawan or Gomez is the second best Master (best being the original, Delgado).

I love how the doctor is just so shocked that when the master walks past her she just lets him. She doesn't make a move to stop him or anything she just lets him go. I love how the master is able to bring this much fear into the doctor that their reaction is just to shut down completely.

Despite the weaknesses in the new series, there are moments like these where it gives me chills. I love this new master and the interaction with this doctor. It's gives me the 10th Doctor and his masters vibe

I remember watching this with my mum, my siblings and my grandparents. As soon as he said the word "Master", like some sort of drama series, my jaw dropped and I said " *No way.* " it was a good moment, i loved it

He’s got a Matt smith style of energy about him. I like him!

@@MarianG89 O mentioned that he and the Doctor met a long time ago and kept contact via phone. Eleven's mannerisms have obviously rubbed off on him. + if this Master is the regeneration before Missy then it makes sense his personality is closer to Simms than Gomez

i can't even count how many times i have re-watched this clip, the background score perfectly balances the dialogues, the big reveal was an absolute shock factor, sacha and jodie's expressions were the cherry on the cake, absolute gem of a scene!

He didn't need the cockpit bomb to bring down the plane. The bite marks from Sacha Dhawan chewing the scenery would have been enough. Not that there's anything wrong with hamming it up a bit in DW.

The Doctor says O's a hermit after discovering he's been hiding in the outback, a callback to the Hermits United joke in Utopia. The signs were there the entire time

In The Sound of the Drums, The Master sarcastically remarks that 10's plea to travel with him sounds like a feeble attempt to "ask [him] out on a date". When we meet Missy for the first time in Deep Breath, she refers to 12 as her boyfriend.

I think too. Because Missy did say she had many regenerations before the John simm' version and hers. As the master speaks about rewriting the DNA with the alien, he could also be a incarnation before the master in Utopia who had his memory erased and dna changed.

He didn't steal someone's actual looks. Just their name, info, etc. The original O was just the man he shrunk in the box and replaced

When they make you fall in love with the master against your will for the 500th time. 🤦‍♂️ I really liked that guy and was hoping he'd join the crew. Now....screw that lol

Some of the mannerisms in there are very much similar to when the master was played by John Simms, and he's doing it really quite well. I love it.

The Master is like Eobard Thawne, he can't stay dead for long...
