I dont know if the oh sees are underrated. It's easy to expect ratings from the masses. Oh sees are rated by a smaller group and they are rated very highyly indeed. Oh Sees for 2023. Peace
He's a seriously amazing guitarist. the subtleties man
The interplay of Dwyer's guitar playing, the keyboards, and the rhythm section is always top notch with this band. The keyboards seem to just serve the music as a way of adding psychedelic textures to the sound. Guitar goes between adding textures and locking in with the rhythm section to drive the energy towards peaks and valleys. JD just keeps getting better with this whole music thing and I am here for the ride.

Yeah I love how this band really embellishes in techniques that progressive acts of the 70s jammed with, I think Zappa, he was really all about his tone and his ability to talk and experiment with his instrumental jams, like Dwyer does, meaningless and full of feeling and exploration all in one, like some modern jazz really. I think Henchlock is a great piece

I meet him in NYC a few years ago during a run at the Bowery Ballroom, and I had a Zappa shirt on he seemed to be into Zappa a bit. I wouldn't say he is a huge fan though.

Over 20 albums now, I've been onboard for almost all, they manage to keep the fire of interest consistently burning, love this band
Otherworldly. They never disappoint.
This is it. This is the thing.
They’re right up there with the best live bands I’ve ever seen. The ability to find a vibe and play with it, to connect on such an abstract level, and do it so differently off the cuff each time in such an improvised way, it’s pure musicianship bordering on musical telepathy. It’s absofuckinglutely incredible music. Thank you x

These KEXP Oh Sees sessions really come close to the fantastic live experiences I had with the Oh Sees. When I play these vids loud, its like having them here playing in my Living room. June 2019 I saw them playing on Down the Rabbit hole, and I am fashinated ever since. Wow guys, what a bunch of great sounds you made. Fantastic Jazz. John is fantastic, but I appreciate the entire band at this time equally as much, great bass, great drums. love the videos as well. Keep up the good work... See you next time when you are over here in The Netherlands
John's guitar playing is probably the best among bands today.. His style really reminds me of Neil Young with a bit more groove on it.
The MIDI wind controller solo is amazing
When someone would say 'Rock is dead' I would tell them 'John Dwyer'. Now when someone says 'Prog is dead' I tell them 'John Dwyer'. 'Guitar is dead'? You know the answer, friends...
My new favorite. Thanks again KEXP!

The new Allman Brothers!) awesome band!
Guy has been listening to Kikagaku recently for sure
epic
Lol look up 'Hooteroll?'. Jerry garcia 71/72 i think. That auto wah tone. And style of this jam is that whole album. Pschyo funk. Or heck Peter Greens 'The End of the Game' album. Thats 1970. All one take start to finish. Dont get me wrong this is great, best they have had in a while that isnt the same as the rest. People acting like this is just being created. Some visionary. Thats all im saying. But dont get me wrong its great. Ive seen these guys 5 times in the past 3 years.
