I feel like most of the idols aren’t even chubby. It’s just the clothes. Like Arin had a more fuller figure but the clothes she wore then did her no justice. Baggy clothes, super flown, ruffles, & too much fabric obviously don’t suit her body type very well. It’s the same with me. Baggy clothes make me look 10lbs more than I am. It’s all body type and styling!

The thing is what is wrong with looking chubby? And Kpop chubby is just an average looking person, why is it a problem anyway ?

I remember reading comments about her body in middle school and it still freaks me out to this day how grown men and women felt so territorial over a childs body. I'm glad she's never addressed it as I think regardless people would have an unwarranted opinion.

Sometimes I feel like "Don't diet, we like your chubby cheeks" or whatever can be a really possessive attitude from fans. Usually when it seems like an idol has drastic weight loss or an image change, ofc a good bulk of those fans are simply expressing concern, but I feel like so many use that concern to also prioritise their aesthetic ideas of idols like "shes the cute little one with a childish body" "hes supposed to be the chubby one we can jokingly compare to a pig" etc etc

If there's one thing I've learned from a decade of kpop, it's that fans are way too opinionated for people who honestly don't know anything about their idols. Western International fans always automatically assume weight loss is negative cuz culturally we've been conditioned to believe that chubby is healthy

@@NinjaKittkatt i dont think western fans had much to do with this? omg have basically 0 recognition among western audiences, and the initial backlash seemed to come from korean fans who wanted to sexualise her pre-pubscent body. i think either way the whole "dont diet" attitude (which kfans usually say to idols anyway aka "please eat alot, dont lose any weight, we love you with your chubby cheeks" etc, can be quite possessive in some contexts.

@@sanaamariam5193 - yeah, western media don’t consider Asian entertainers to be marketable regardless of whether they are skinny, average or chubby.

This company is actually really nice in the way they treat their idols in terms of their eating habits. “Eat whatever just make sure you’re healthy (and able to fit in the clothes lol)”.

honestly as somebody who casually follows O.M.G., arin has never looked "fat" or "skinny" to me, she just looked healthy on stage. In a way im glad this channel exists cuz it has opened my eyes to how there are people who will always criticise an idol's weight regardless.

Sorry for the long break, I'm trying to focus on Uni right now (finally going to graduate this year :) Anyways O.M.G. members get requested a lot and Arin/ Seunghee are the most mentioned. I think Arin looks amazing, her body type is one in a million and it's great the fandom/ general public has been pretty loving majority of the time towards her.

It's so frustrating when people don't understand that she debuted at 16, she's basically a child. And now that she's 22, her body will obviously naturally change and she will shed her baby fat because that's called becoming a woman. EDIT: Clearly people in the replies have not read my post properly. I said some women naturally shed their baby fat, but a lot of people like to assume its because of dieting. So, yes Arin could've dieted more after losing some of her baby fat idk. I didn't mean to say that all women lose weight after they grow up. However, not every single woman's body is the same so please don't assume that every single woman will gain weight in their 20's. This seems to a common misconception in the replies. This was not the case for me in my 20s. But moving on.

However, i also think its important for people to understand, yes women shed their baby fat after the age of 16. Arin has a beautiful body shape. Her curves are apparent whether she's larger or smaller. Not that she's ever been very big... If anything, I'd say she has the ideal body type. A coke bottle shape that looks good at almost any size. I'm glad to see she had a gradual loss rather than the extreme gains and losses.

By the look of her hair this is during A-ing, which meant it was the comeback where the company made her do inpatient treatment because she wasn’t getting better :(

I actually have a pretty similar body to arin, which is why i usually don't wear tops with short sleeves that often since it's annoying when people comment about me being too skinny (even when i gain weight, you can always see my collarbones, i literally only gain weight on my hips and thighs lol). Now that i'm older i'm a lot more confident about it, especially bc i built up some muscle there, but still, you can't change your genes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My grandma just commented on a picture from last year where I was an inch shorter and a couple pounds lighter saying I looked “too skinny” (it was a waist up picture) and is talking now that I look better. My bottom half was the same size then as it is now. I don’t like it when others comment on people’s bodies like it’s theirs.

I feel like international fans need to understand there's nothing wrong with weight loss or wanting to be skinny for aesthetic reasons especially if your healthy about it. Yet they never have a problem when idols gain weight (usually very fast weight gain and unhealthy too). I think one of the most dangerous messages our society puts out is that you can't be thin AND healthy.

JinE had a lot of negative comments from netizens. It was the reason she force herself to get that sick. It might be true when they first debuted WM really wanted them to lose weight but again it was up to them. They are now one of the top girl groups in South Korea so maintaining their image is very important to them. The majority of the miracles only care about their happiness. As long as they are healthy and happy, miracles are happy.

I actually just recently found out about arin through music bank mc and this is quite shocking to me like ive seen a lot of people who criticized idols for not having a slim figure but this is different, i love how supportive their fans were except for those s*x*lising her. I was shook by her slim figure at first, but it turns out she have the similar body shape to me, and I feel comforted by how she took care of herself. As a person having petite body and much more curvy bottom its very hard to determine myself if i am fat or not as i have bigger bones compare to arin, but i'm glad she look healthy most of the time and doesn't struggle herself with unhealthy diets.

My body type is like Arin’s. All the weight just goes to my lower body, especially around my thighs. My upper body remains slim no matter how much I put on and my collar bones tend to stick out too. Even more so since I have broad shoulders. Of course someone with the same body type is going to look slimmer if they wore baggy pants and a fitting, sleeveless top.

Another factor is her height change. That meant she had to adjust to eating/dieting/exercising for new proportions.

I feel like she just went through natural body changes for her age. Lots of people go through weight changes and it’s normal, I felt like over analyzing idols‘ weight changes is wrong and kind of dehumanizing, like their body isn’t going to stay the same all the time and that’s normal. Unless they actually talk about going on extreme diets I feel like there’s no reason to talk about it. With your videos tho I feel like you do a good job at just laying out the facts. I don’t know why I get so shocked at comments of people using kpop idols to support their delusional dreams that they can lose weight and be that size too in a healthy way. i think part of it could have been that arin is just so cute and sweet especially at the ages she weighed more that it was hard for anyone to be mean to her ☹️ i mean i think she looked so good it’s kinda crazy to me how skinny you have to be to be considered pretty. i just find it gross that ppl were upset with her weight loss coz she wasn’t as “sexy” talk about objectification and it’s so fucking rude to have the audacity to even comment things like her body making her who she is. those “fans” were not fans and did not love or support her for who she is
