I probably should've just said in the comments and not replied to someone but like, This sorta happens during Sonic 3, Basically during all the stuff going on with the constant stuff with Sonic and Eggman started to get fed up with Sonic on his island in general as he still believed Eggman was on his side, Which made Knuckles and go 1v1 Sonic himself early without any gimmicks or tricks like all the other times he got in the way of Sonic, Which caused him to get absolutely clowned on by Sonic and knocked into the lava right after he goes "I will never forget this.", And then the lava hardens or whatever, And he survives from this due to his STRONG will to protect the Master Emerald and stuff. anyway yap sesh over boingbabadee

They are on lava reef zone which basically is part of angel island. So i have two guesses. Or this is a battle beetween sonic and knuckles on sonic 3 where knuckles was sonic's enemy until he found out eggman was trying to steal the master emerald and then knuckles became sonic's ally. Or this is just an alternate universe where knuckles decided to join eggman's army.

This happens during Sonic 3, Basically Knuckles gets fed up with Sonic and Tails on his island and tries to take Sonic down early before the fight in Hidden Palace, Leading him to get kicked into the magma, But basically due to his strong will to protect the Master Emerald he survives and stuff.

This has to be one of the best Sonic related covers for Oh God No that I’ve ever seen. It would be so awesome to have a cover of I Hate You considering that this is such an interesting concept!

Lore (my take): This actually takes place in Sonic Blast, a game for the game gear and master system. Originally, they were gonna have Knuckles betray Sonic and you’d fight him like in Sonic & Knuckles, resulting in a clash that would end in you throwing Knuckles into the lava. -flipside- Knuckles had only pretended to be Sonic’s Friend, after seeing what he did to take him down, he believed Eggman more, during the events leading to Sonic Blast. Knuckles confronted Sonic, telling him that Eggman had stole all the emeralds again, this was a trap. A trap to lead sonic on a wild goose chase to the doctor for him to capture him and then take the gems, thinking that Sonic wasn’t gonna collect them since he said he’d get em. Instead of following, Sonic managed to find the giant rings and collected them all, in a fit of rage. Knuckles stormed into Red Volcano, “You must’ve thought Robotnik worked alone didn’t you?” Knuckles would say that, before beginning the assault. One Champion of Good.. One Pawn of Evil.. Who was gonna stand out on top?

The way I see Knuckles is he is a great and tough echidna warrior, his character makes me feel like he deserves to be a protagonist of the franchise again. I could imagine if Knuckles is tired of being a supporting sidekick in this.

You're probably the only Oh God No Sonic cover to not use Tails. Respect for creativity.

I know there's already lore behind this. But I like the idea of Knuckles never truly being friends with Sonic or anyone else, and only ever cared about the safety of the Chaos Emeralds (as well as the master emerald AND those 'super emeralds' for that matter considering their connection) and that he only was ever 'friendly' with people if they helped in the preservation and protection of the emeralds, and would willingly abandon or betray anyone as long as it meant that the *emeralds* would remain safe and protected in their sacred grounds, as he's still the (canonical) last and only remaining Echidna, meaning he'd care more about that role than socializing with outsiders. Plus, Sonic's already a danger magnet to be around or even related to, it'd be pretty easy to assume Knuckles eventually just refused to leave a risk like that around.

This actually makes sense why Knuckles would betray Sonic. Sonic rushes through Lava Reef zone, awaiting for his next battle. But he never thought it would be his own friend who would be manipulated into being on Robotnik’s side, blocking the next platform for Sonic to jump on. He confronts Sonic about all the selfish things he’s done, and though Sonic tried to talk his way out..he was never on his side, and Knuckles throws the first punch, knocking Sonic back. This causing him to nearly stumble and catch himself, as he gets into a stance. Knuckles pumps his fists in anger and hatred, and only time will tell who is the said victor…

i like how this one actually makes sense, knuckles is more likely to betray sonic, he never trusted him in the first place

I feel like "I thought you were my friend" and "I was never on your side" are really inpactful lines, at least to me. Shows Sonic feels betrayed and annoyed that Knuckles works with Eggman now, and Knuckles shows hatred for this blue hedgehog and probably wants to get rid of him.
