Kriegers are actually very insular because they believe that most other Regiments aren't as pious as they should be, so they actually don't get along well with others, especially if they're more conventional soldiers like the Cadians. Hell, they might have taken exception to the idea of them getting drunk and complaining, and may have singled out the Commissar for failing in her responsibilities to enforce discipline from their point of view.

@@Zekeziel-Reacts Yep. Kriegers are on record for actually executing commissars assigned to them for not being as zealous as most Kriegers are. Altho since then, a lot of Kriegers get commissars that hail from Krieg itself, and things work a bit better with them now.

Here an excerpt from Imperial Armour vol.5 in case some Krieg fanboys come up and say it's never happen. ”Shells started to crash down into the advancing Krieg ranks, as the defenders fire increased, summoning up the malestrom of destruction again. In no mans land whole squads were being wiped out as the salvos created a wall of shrapnel. As the artillery fire hammered down it caused the utter collapse of the 158th regiments attack in the sector 50-45. The first attack wave was already falling back in the face of intense fire. The Comissars amongst the assault squads demanded that the men stand firm and push on, summarily executing the first men to take any step backwards. In return, several Commisars were shot out by hand by their own side as the shredded assault companies scurried back to the safety of their own trenches. At the parapet the first wave collided with the second wave as they moved forwards to begin their advance. Fighting broke out as the officers of the second wave tried to force passage forwards. After only a couple hours the 158th regiment's attack had disintegrated into shambles. For the regiment's abject failure, the colonel and his staff would be arrested and eventually executed. The regiment was then disbanded by the 88th Siege Army's commissars. All the survivors would be sentenced to serve amongst the Penal Legions.”

@@inquisitorsteele8397 That sounds like somebody doesn't know how to write the Death Korps, honestly. They're not stupid and totally willing to make a tactical withdrawal if the situation demands it, but the prospect of burying the enemy under a mountain of their own corpses is what the Death Korps live for; if a sustained artillery barrage or incompetent leadership was enough to break this unflinching resolve, the Death Korps of Krieg would have broken down millennia ago.

Funny enough, Krieg requires special commissars whose job it is to REIN IN the fanatic krieg soldiers, preventing useless suicidal charges to die for the Emperor. Contrary to most commissars, they do not need to improve morale and fighting spirit among the soldiers, but instead they work to restrain their fanatical hatred and zealous desire to attone for their people's previous sins by dying for the Emperor. Coincidently, Krieg has an unsually high number of commissar deaths that often are dubious in circumstances during the best of times. Apparently, the zealous death cult does not like it when you keep them from attaining the one thing they desire in life. Dying for the Emperor.

Actually commisars in Krieg are the sh*tty job - they have to make Kriegers tame to not suicide rush everything. At least in old lore is written that often times than not, other regiments commisars attached to Kriegsmen get mercied for not being loyal enough (aka stopping them from advancing when it is suicidal)

That ending is gut-wrenching once you think it through. We are talking about a battle-hardened and de-sensitized war veteran, with the intelligence of a child. Low enough that he does not comprehend that momma and sister are gone. Dead. Never to be seen again. But with a loyalty so unwavering, that all he cares about is being the best Ogryn his momma taught him how to be, and to make the Emperor proud. And that pure wish at the end, encapsulates all of that, with perfection.
