Offset boring a 1275 block to 73.5mm - Part 1

Here is how I go about offset boring an A+ 1275 block to 73.5mm. This particular block is already at +0.060”……

Thank you for showing us this procedure in detail. Very intresting and it also gives you an understanding for what the expense of boring a block is based on.

That’s the idea, these procedures take time and hence adds to the cost.

Nice to see how you do it. I worked as motor mechanic for Royal mail, we reconditioned our engines mainly in house. My friend used to do the engine rebores, we both had mini's . He rebored his block to 1430, I think, using herald pistons, following Vizards book.

Terrific video, really looking forward to the boring. How do you decide whether to line bore?

If the bearing crush is too loose it will need line boring. Fit the crank in the block with fresh bearings and lube and rotate. If you have contact marks on different sides of the 3 bearings it needs a line hone. In reality, if you are building a high performance engine, do it as part of your prep anyway.

Does the crank need modifying if the bores are offset ?

Fully skirted pistons? Look like they're for a tractor...

That’s because these engines are long stroke small bore units.

Thank You. Looks like a pretty thick head on them even with the dish! I liked flat tops for the CR, but now I see that currently the dish has proven to get better combustion & power, gee, the flat tops seemed so obvious in the early 70's.

@@alro2434 yes the dish on this engine design at least has proven to be the optimal.
