I've been a ham since the late 70's and have built many kits over the years (mostly Heathkit). Lately have gotten re-interested in fox hunting with my local club. I have to compliment you on the very professional level of your video(s). I'm building the same attenuator and plan to use the very same enclosure. On a lark I bought a used arrow dual band handheld yagi from a friend a few years ago thinking of satellite work (which I might still do), but it will lend itself very nicely for fox hunting in the meantime. Thank you so very much for the very kind words. I have had great success with this fox hunting combo. The attenuator really helps as you get closer. When you get really close move from 4Mhz to 8mhz off frequency and it works right on top of the fox. Have fun hunting and thanks for the view. RJ

We did fox hunts in the 70's when I was a kid. We took turns being the fox. The fox would get time to hide then we were off. We used fiberglass whips on the bumper which made the signal directional like a beam off the front corner of the car. We used the RF meter on the radio. It was a blast. What state are you in?

If you use a modulated test signal, does distortion increase much as signal level increases under AGC control.

Thanks, Did not test for it as it’s only used to receive the tones from the fox. So audio quality was not much of a factor to its effectiveness. But I could not notice any noticeable distortion with its use on a very strong signal. RJ
