Video Description
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have the Redmi Note 12 from Xiaomi right here and today I want to show you the entire process of how we can unlock the bootloader of this device.
#XiaomiRedmi #RedmiNote12 #RedmiNote12Pro
This official process requires us to have a free account with Xiaomi, it is dependant on us having an active mobile data account, and will also take hours or days of waiting since we first need to request bootloader unlock access before the bootloader is allowed to be unlocked.
We will also need to download the Xiaomi Mi Unlock tool for this request to be sent in. I'll be including a link to this program in the video description below.
For those with other variants of this series, this tutorial will also work on the Redmi Note 12 Pro, Redmi Note 12 Pro+, and the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition.
The first thing we're going to need to do is enable Developer Mode. Once enabled, we need to go into the Developer Options menu so that we can enable the OEM Unlocking toggle.
Now, we need to log into your Xiaomi Mi account from the top of the Settings app here. This is the same account you need to log into on the phone and you cannot unlock the bootloader until you are signed in here.
The next step is to insert our SIM card into the device. After the SIM card has been inserted, it may take a few minutes before the mobile data connection has been made.
We also need to disable WiFi before the request is sent in, so let's do that now. Once that has been disabled, we can then to go back into the hidden Developer Options menu, scroll down a little bit, and then select the Mi Unlock Status option.
You may see this permission request pop-up appear. This needs to be agreed to before we can add our account from here. You'll need to wait until you see the "success" message appear at the bottom. If you get an error or something that says failed, try it again to see if it goes through.
Once the account has been added successfully, we then need to boot the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 into Fastboot Mode.
With the Redmi Note 12 Pro in Fastboot Mode, let's connect it to the PC with a USB cable and then open up the Xiaomi Mi Unlock tool on the computer.
We now have to log into our Xiaomi Mi account from here. And this needs to be the same account we logged into on our smartphone.
After you have all of this set up, go ahead click the Unlock button right here and confirm that you actually want to complete the Redmi Note 12 bootloader unlock process. This needs to be confirmed twice before the Mi Unlock tool will try to process the request.
And remember, this is usually just a request to unlock the bootloader. We are likely going to need to wait X number of hours before the bootloader can actually be unlocked.
Make note of how many hours are displayed in this message here. And then reboot the Redmi Note 12 back into Android.
Now we are going to need to wait (that many hours). After that time has passed, we then need to boot the device back into Fastboot Mode. Connect it to the PC with a USB cable and then use the Mi Unlock tool to unlock the bootloader.
Just be sure that you don't remove the Mi account from the phone. . .and don't mess with the Mi Unlock Status section of the Developer Options menu either. If we try to initiate that process again during the waiting period, it could reset the number of hours we have to wait before the bootloader can be unlocked.
You are safe to remove the SIM card from the phone though, if you need to use it in another device during this time period.
Thanks for great tutorial, everything worked as you described - I waited 1 week and it unlocked. Btw I had to find another thread which suggested that the unlock process above only works for US accounts, so I had to create a new XiaoMi account and select US region but I could still use my UK sim card number ok for the rest of the process. That could help a lot of people outside the US who get stuck because of that.
The unlock process above appears to be of people in the US region. I created a new XiaoMi account and selected the US region, but I need to wait 168 hours, not 121 hours to try unlocking the phone. Therefore, it doesn't seems to matter whether it is a US account or not. Sim card number regions seems to not matter at all as well since I could still use my sim card even though it is not a US sim card.
Great and comprehensive guide! Managed to do it on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro 4g, once on Miui 14 and once on HyperOs. Thank you
Thanks, it worked! I had to wait 7 days to unlock successfully due to the counter wait time... But, it the end, it worked, that is what matters most. 😎😉
I'm here to thank you! it worked just fine. will I receive system updates? can/should I lock back my redmi note 12 pro?
while waiting for 121 hours, can u use wifi or only use data from simcard? please answer
Hi, the procedure is this in my Redmi I waited 168 hours after a minute to unlock everything but I made the backup local with the SIM for precautions I have now updated MIUI 13.0.3 advice for updates having a Xiaomi phone with reboot after update is better to have few apps. open then light and the TWRP I wait a few months if there is another update not China but global the bugs never fail😂😂😂
If the bootloader is unlocked still can receive ota update?
Do I download the Mi Unlock Tool or XiaoMiTool V2?
Does this work on the Redmi Note 12 4G? Edit: I'm also asking whether the Rooting method you have on your channel works on this phone variant.
I'm having issue with "add account and device" it doesn't work just having : couldnt verify, sign into your account again
I struggled with the delayed sms's but found that there was typically a half hour delay before they arrived.
Can I add the account in developer settings to another sim card than the original one and switch back after the 168 hours has started?
you should be okay as long as you use the same account/sim card to request the unlock and to actually unlock. just remember to not re-add the account (or another account) in developer options during this wait period
yes, you can still use the phone. just don't go into that developer options menu and manually add your Xiaomi Mi account again (and don't sign out of your Mi account from the Settings app)
The miflash unlock thing just won't work for me. I would try another USB port (try multiple) or try another USB cable entirely. if it still happens then it may be a conflict with your OEM ADB/USB Drivers. so you may need to uninstall the ones you have and then reinstall the one for your OEM (Xiaomi in this case)
I just realized that some apps such as bank app not allow to be installed on the phone which unlocked bootloader. Like bank app, so if you have that bank account and want to install the bank app on your phone you can't. Then you have to buy a new phone or decide not to that bank app on your phone.
this tends to be something USB related. it could mean that you need a different USB cable (one meant for data as well as charging). or it could be that you don't have the proper USB/ADB drivers installed from Xiaomi. or that you have a conflict with the USB drivers you have installed. could also mean that the phone doesn't like the USB port you're plugging it into (I don't think they like USB 3.0 ports).
