What an awesome time. My cousin and I got to do the Buck Rogers screen test, my Mom did the wall table, another cousin did the E.T. bike. Best era ever at Universal.

I remember being about ten years old. It was 1986 and I was wearing a bright red t shirt with a discreet Australian flag print. I was waving furiously when they asked for volunteers for the screen test. Thankfully they picked me. The plane gently flipped myself and another audience member over while we waved at the camera. We were wearing striped prisoner garbs. I remember watching the finished product- along with a cheering audience- on the big screen. Beautiful memories. I once had the video casette of this, though I have no idea where it is. Still, the magic was palpable: a crowd of strangers felt like a family. I was officially in love with cinema! Thank you for sharing this stunning time capsule.

Thank you so much for posting this!!! I remember going to Universal Studios on my 6th birthday in 1985. People don’t believe me when I tell them that you used to get off the tram midway through the tour to do the special effects demonstration. Also, the live TV show filming was something I thought was so cool back then. Great video!

Ahh, I remember that battlestar galatica tunnel :) I just went on the tour last week. Doesn’t have the same charm as it used to, they should have left in the bridge and a few other of these old set pieces. Ugh, and why remove that Conan show? It was awesome! Would much prefer that over some crap like the minions ride.

unfortunately, the hanging rope in the mae west and w.c. fields' 1940 film my little chickadee is gone. i was curios as to if it was still there after all these years, so i had a friend drive by yesterday (march 1, 2024) the livery stable, and he confirmed the rope is no longer there.
