    From what the commentator said, they were on a "tight" schedule" and he had to run ahead of the party to get set up. He also said he needed to do the full family first, because Prince Philip get's testy after just a couple of minutes, so his time had to be quick before the Duke would be over it all.

    Jared the photographer didn’t release the images, the palace did. The photographer most likely presented the “client” with a bunch of images, and the palace released the ones they liked. The client always seem to like the photos you are least happy with. They don’t think about composition, contrast etc. Have you ever thought “hmm I don’t know whether to present this image to the client, I’m not 100% happy with it, oh what the hell I’ll include it” and then they absolutely love that one image. Agree with the critique but hard to judge without seeing the full set of presented images.

    It's possible the client messed with the cropping. Or there was a misunderstanding, like the photographer gave them unfinished drafts for review, and they released them. Anything is possible in these extraordinary circumstances.

You best believe...I am not submitting crappy shots to the client. So they will have to choose shots from what I submit to publicize, and I should be proud of any of those.

    Without seeing any other photos from when this was taken, we don't know what was going on. The probability is this is a photo from between staged photos and a niece or a nephew is messing with them and the photographer took the photo as a one off. Somebody (possibly Megan) liked the photo because is shows Harry Laughing, so it was released.

    In defense of Alexi, he probably had no time to do this better. Subjects at this level have no time and don't take direction. These are definitely not "snapshots". I'm sure a lot of planning & effort went into them, even if they have some errors. Kids looking away are a constant in wedding portraits.

    Merlin Alfonso I do Indians weddings 98% and talk about pressure, you have no idea when doing a couple portrait. I, sometimes, get just 5 minutes to set up my lights and to click them and I still get a decent images and if I get 15 minutes from the client its like getting all the 5 infinity stones. Sometimes time is not an issue. He could have done a better composition and most importantly experience come for the rescue and being an experience photographer it should have worked for him. No offence... Just my opinion.

    Photo #1 straighten up, the whole room looks to be leaning to the right. You have vertical lines , make use of them in framing or at least in Lightroom or whatever post processing software that was used make the verticals plumb. Nothing worse than seeing a well established photographer making noob mistakes(i am a noob and have made those mistakes) Photo #2 have the kid on the right stand behind the girl he is next to. Squat to take the photo, don't stand and point the camera down at your subject, it throws off the verticals in the background. Another noob composition mistake. Photo #3 Why does Harry have no left hand? Did he lose it in the ceremony? Better yet hold your now wife like you want to be with her and save this photo. Noob mistake 3 cutting subject limbs off. Not that I am a paid phototographer, but even I would not accept payment for how badly these were composed.

    These were not shared by the photographer, he did not get to choose which shots were chosen. Most clients inevitably love shots that you dont like. Again, you have no control in this event. You dont get to decide what and when gets shared. You dont set the schedule. You have no control. I know you havnt photographed weddings, so it may be hard for you to understand behind the scenes of a shoot like this.

    Apparently he had about three minutes to get the shot on the steps, as it was a last minute thing, my guess is he did "snap them" and carried on with what ever was going on after. Plus I love the way everyone is slagging these photos off. I'm sure you would of all done much better in the circumstances.....NOT. You would've NOT had much, if any control over what was going on... aaaand had limited time to do the group pictures. These are the Royal Family, it's not a normal wedding situation were the photographer has more clout on the arranging of pictures....grow up. Plus take a look at the video of Leibovitz's photo shoot with the Queen and look at all the prep, lighting and crew she had for the shoot.

    I've done a lot of pressure work with celebrities in my 34 year career. How long does it take to ask the prince nicely, please place your hand on her shoulder or on her hand and bring your left leg out a bit more. Also ask Meagan if she could look up to Harry. I could probably get that all done in about 20 to 30 seconds. Then again, who picked the images for publication? The photographer or someone who has no clue about composition? The image before or after may have those problems corrected. But this image to me, is just SLOPPY!

    I’ve met Alexi. Lovely chap. And I think you hire someone like him because of who he is. He is a great photographer. But you have to realise he is royalty himself. He’s not an average photographer. He’s a celebrity and a very engaging personality in his own right. Not to say he doesn’t take great photos. He can and does. But he brings a lot more to the table than technical ability. He can relate to the royals in a way that not many people on the planet can. And that’s why they wanted him. He can see them as “normal” and take their photos and make them look normal and relatable.

  • @loueneu

    Not to mention he is also married and his wife looks a bit like Meghan, so he can relate to them better than an unmarried commoner? What a bunch of medieval nonesense

  • @biscuitsalive

    @biscuitsalive

    Lou Ayneux that’s not what I meant. It’s not about commoner vs elite. They just will have similarities with their day to day lives (Alexi and royal family). So he’s bound to be able to relate to them better on a personal level than most other photographers would. And I really think his goal was to help make them look a bit more like a normal family. Clearly they are not a normal family. But allowing imperfections into the photos and making them a bit more candid and unstaged will help them come across that way. It’s all very calculated to blur the gap between them and us. I’m no royalist. But I admire the thought that has gone into these shots. Clearly thought that a lot of purely technical photographers may have missed.

    Why would royalty want to look normal? And why would a layman want to see them as normal people? When I look at the rich, royal and famous I want to see opulence, glamour and what I can never have. If I want to see normal wedding couples, I can go to IG and find tons.

  • @biscuitsalive

    @biscuitsalive

    Pradhyumna Gupta I think it’s clear by how they have been slowly trying to change their public image over the last few years that they do want to appear more “normal” gone is the low angle austere unsmiling staged portraits. And the official released photos by the royals these days clearly try to paint them in a relatable light. They know the whole idea of royalty and elite cast system is massively out of date. So they want the general public on their side.

    Mate, I've learnt never to be critical of other peoples work as I never really know the back story of any shot. The guy that shot these had 30 minutes to take 6 shots. I'm sure any Annie L. photograph of the standard we're use to seeing from her would take a lot lot longer. From my perspective, Alex Lubomirski is a winner as he got the gig.

    The photos are high professional, because the royal request was to take photos that bring them down to one step with the masses. The photos say, we ain't something special, we are just a young couple getting married. And that's very impressive, Harry is a man of the people. He just needs a small JPEG to print in 4"x6" and place it next to his bedside lamp to remember this wonderful day.

    For the pic with the two sitting on the stairs I'd have chosen a horizontal composition making use of the leading lines and adding foreground blur. The group pics also seem pretty random, but sometimes the circumstances don't allow for perfection and I agree that we all don't know how that shooting was arranged. Anyway it shows that taking your time to shoot wedding couples pays off which is mostly an appeal to the clients, as us photographers usually love to take our time to capture these precious moments as good as we can.

    Jared, what is up with you being so forgiving with these photos. Of course they have been shot under pressure and yes, they seem good enough to most people. But it's not like the photographer is an amateur and cannot be held to the highest standards. Your critique is about as decisive as if a movie critique said: "this film is bad, but I guess we can see the actors and we can hear them, and people will like it, so who I am to judge..."

    These photos exemplify why the creative industry sucks. The best people don't get the best jobs.I agree with Jared that these photos are mediocre. Even simple things like the processing. The images, especially the black and white one, are really flat. There are so many other photographers who would have done a better job than this but get "beaten" out by others who produce subpar results.

    In a setting with as much money and importance as this one, there isn’t an excuse for subpar work. It may have been ok for your average photographer (even then I probably would have chose different images - he may not have had much control of the first two though to be fair) but I would expect more from a royal wedding. That is just me though.

    Annie and platon are both studio photographers who work under much slower conditions. What makes you think they could have wrangled 7 kids and two adults in the 25 seconds they would have had to take the shot. I think any photographer would have struggled under such difficulties. They probably were like “The royal couple has absolutely 0 room for schedule deviation. So you have 30seconds here, one minute here to get their shot this shot etc. “
