The real tragedy is that their Royal relatives including Royal Family in Britain didn't lift a finger to offer help to get the Tsar and his family safely out of Russia. That is a dam tragedy!

I'm not Russian or have ancestry in Eastern Europe but their story and life has always fascinated me. He may have made mistakes in his reign but he was a decent person who didn't deserve the hate and vitriol he got. It's funny how people wanted him gone but look what they got in return? Someone much, much worse. Rest In Peace. ☦

@@jakeavakov5230 I think she's referring to Stalin. Not necessarily the person of power directly after the Tsar. I don't think the comment was ill intent, it was a complex time period. And to the OP: change was inevitable in Russia at the time. I agree he didn't deserve his fate, but Russia sadly suffered from lack of modern advancements while he was in power. Too many people were dying in wars or poverty stricken because of it. Their people were desperate and hoped the revolution would better their future. Cycles break. It's sad though, it was a magnificent dynasty, and a lot of old, diverse culture was lost along with it. How crazy and different history would've been if the Tsarists Empire agreed to a Parliamentary system like the UK! (Which is what many wanted at that time as well.)

I'm Canadian born, but my roots are Russian. My family flew from Russia during the 1917s Revolution. I do not hate or arbored any bad feelings toward Russia, I just feel a void in my soul, because I have been to Russia visiting "our" former homes in either St-Petersburgh or in Moskow, my brother and I felt such a strong feeling in our roots, it was extremely odd visiting my family old palaces yet we could "NOT" say or even mention we are the former descendants of these families who used to own these Palaces... No, we are not related in anyways to the former Royal family of Russia. Yet our family was noble, at the same time I am proud of my roots and ashamed of it, because of how the Russian population was treated in those very difficult days, prior to and after the Revolution of 1917s. You must understand before judging us, that this was how it was, the nobles had everything, and besides tiny changes in the laws, no one else could or would do anything to help the lower people under themselves. They were badly treated, by us, I know that, you must not forget also that judging me or my family ties over 100+plus years is totally different since, the Russian society is not what it was 100-plus years ago. It is a real shame for me to see a man like Putin, that is acting very much like a Dictator or TZAR of Russia. I have photos and pictures of the 1903 Balls it was amazing, the costumes, the dances, the fabulous jewels, my great-grandparents told us many times how it was. Some of the words I did not understand, they spoke Russian of course, but I was very young. Now looking back at these photos, I do understand the Revolution was needed, but what followed was not exactly what they thought was appropriate or what might have happened if they might have had "IF" Alexander the III did indeed have time to change the laws and made his many more democratic or what was current then in the UK GOV. I do not approve of PUTIN. I do see a much better future for Russia.

Your family was noble ? You say "WAS". Is your family not noble anymore ? Nobility ist not an institution of the past and not confined to a certain regime. It is an everlasting attitude, a mentality that is inherited and passed ont to the next generations - and it does not contradict the understanding of democracy. If you are or consider yourself not noble anymore, do not blame the revolution. You may then have lost your property and your privileges, but if you have also lost your noble attitude, then your family may have been noble on paper only but not in the heart, not in the blood. And: You say the revolution was needed? All the blood shed was needed ? All the destruction and demolition of a century old and great culture was needed? The murder of the Tzar family was needed? By God, no your family was either not noble or you have lost it in your heart. As to Putin: He built Russia up again after the end of the inheritants of the Revolution (Sowjets) and he is in favour of the old traditional Russian culture. If you see a better future for Russia, then this bright future is the continuity of the past into the future for if you do not know where you come from, you do not know where you go. It is the past that provides the guidelines for future design, and this is exactly what Putin has in mind - but obviously not you.

Nicholas' decision to enter the first world war knowing full well he couldn't really fight a war on that scale (look at their world war one losses) and that he wasn't popular with the people as much to begin with even before the war. After WW1, people really hated him more. More people joined the Bolsheviks to over throw the Tzars. I read most russia at the time was still farm land and they were really out dated in technology. Quote from history.com: "Under Stalin, the Soviet Union was transformed from a *peasant* society into an industrial and military superpower." It hurts my soul to see these images and to imagine what the sacred people of the Tsar, the Tsarina, the Grand Duke and the Great Duchesses must have suffered in those dark days. Just like the great noble families of Sacred Russia.

in many of the archives filming, it shows service men carrying Alexis. At this point the boy was quite large and actually over the size of carrying. It is known that Nicholas's people did not know that Alexis was hemophiliac. I wonder what they saw it when they saw grown men carrying such a large boy. Such a sad case of a loving couple that had to deal with their past ancestors making decisions of marrying close family members that their son inherited haemophilia. Very very sad. What I like about this family he said it showed great love toward one another. such a beautiful handsome family. may God have shown them great Mercies, and may they rest in peace

He is not alone in opening the door to Horror, but his flaws are breath-takingly apparent. So sad,so very tragic. RIP Romanov family, love from America to Russia.
