Un compositeur génial...pour tous..musiciens,chanteurs,public...et même pour les critiques ce qui n'est pas peu dire.. .Il n'est pas oublié à Bruniquel (82) où depuis de très nombreuses années il est célébré et honoré chaque année par des artistes spécialisés dans ses oeuvres...et un village qui fait de la figuration de qualité....quel bonheur que cela existe...A consommer sans aucune modération...

We saw an English Language verion of this same show in London a while ago but I like the French version better. It is on DVD but I wonder if this is from a French TV transmission as I am not sure if the camera angles are the same. I'm old enought to remember the Saddlers Wells version of the 1960s that was really good.

Offenbach is even funnier when it's not popped up. The old René Liebovits (sp?) recording is absolutely sublime in its idiomatic vulgarity. Offenbach would have loved it. In English it becomes second-rate music-hall.
