I've taken many road trips through the Eastern Sierra. If you ever get a chance to drive on 120 through Yosemite AND 395 through the Eastern Sierra, DO IT! You will see some of the most majestic scenery ever. It's like another world out there.

One of the best moments is watching these utube videos of cross country whether it's 18wheelers, motorcycles, automotive even pickup trucks, it's better than National Geographic, when I was a kid back in the 50s and early 60s I even loved taking 2 or 3 day trips on just traveling wherever on a Greyhound Bus.

Man you gotta GREAT job. Long distance hauling: you're not bent down slaving away in a coal mine. You're not being destroyed with stress working at the stock exchange, and you're not stuck behind the register at a fast food joint (ain't got nothin' against those jobs)... Like your vids...wish I was driving right now.

On of your best among many great ride-a-longs!! Thanks for the narration on Bodie and Mono Lake. Sometimes I forget interesting facts about the High Sierras. Loved the pictures of the boulders towards the end before hitting the Bodie turn off - great visual evidence of what was once the Tioga glacier which covered much of the area 11 to 20 thousand years ago. Mono Lake reveals the recent history of climate change and is famous (among nerds and scientists) for its core samples which have been used to recreate precipitation variations on 3 different geological time scales: Dansgaard-Oeschger (approximately a 1,000 year cycle), Heinrich events (varying repetition due to interactions with other causes), and Milankovich (approximately 10,000 year cycle). The latter was hypothesized by a Serbian astronomer, Milutin Milanković about 100 years ago. He hypothesized that variations in the Earth's "eccentricity", or axial tilt and the precession of the Earth's orbit around the Sun led to a cyclical variation in the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth, and that this orbital forcing strongly influenced climatic patterns on Earth (that is was a contributing factor to ice ages and glaciation and global cooling). Your intellectual curiousity about the areas you driver through reminds me of my own day driving back in the 80s. It was a lonely life for a single guy in his 20s but it was also a really interesting job because no two days were ever the same and I went everywhere and saw everything and like you, I knew where to find a meal or park in lots of little towns around the country. Even today, many years later, I can recall in great detail so many of my epic and scenic drives like they were yesterday. If I had been driving in a Volvo with those fantastic comfortable seats, I might have kept it up, but honestly, it was impossible to maintain relationships with girls when I was gone so much although some of my best trips involved bringing a girl friend with me on the road - although it was sometimes more peaceful and less stressful not to have to stop and shop in every little tourist town - it was still the most interesting job offering the most flexibility of any job I ever had. People who work in offices with direct supervision through out the day just do not understand the near absolute freedom of the open road to be their own boss (in regard to how you go about doing the job) and how certain people excel at such a job and cannot be micromanaged - like cowboys, truck drivers are a breed apart and unlikely to ever be happy working a normal 9 to 5 even when kids and wife force a career change on them. Nothing beats the feeling of saddling up and riding off to adventure by yourself. I found the nights to be the worst part - sleeping trucks without a dog or cat was lonely and the solitude is okay for a week but if you end on the road for several weeks in a row and cannot get home for R&R and laundry, it can get tiresome. Many people think truck drivers are just working stiffs, but most try and stick with the job because they just really don't fit in with a normal office job or factory job doing the same thing every day. Keep up the great videos with the interesting narration.

You were in my neighborhood !! Hwy 395 between Indian Wells Valley (Inyokern, Ridgecrest, & China Lake) and Owens Lake. Little Lake on the right. The lava flow area on the right is on US Navy land (Naval Air Weapons Station-China Lake). The "mining area" is used for road construction material. Coso Junction Rest Stop. Yes, gas in CA is higher than any state (CA taxes its citizens and travelers so it can squander it away on frivolous projects).

The proper named of former Mt. McKinley is Denali. Native Alaskans had always called it Denali. In 1896 a gold prospector renamed Denali in favor of his favor presidential candidate. If I recall correctly, McKinley had never visited Alaska before the name change. In 1975 the State of Alaska returned the name to Denali. In 2015 the US Federal Government also recognized and officially struck the name McKinley in favor of its historical name, Denali.

I drive a 24 ft RV (Class C with a Ford 350 chassis). Going above 55 mph is a hell of a job! These vehicles have no road-holding quality (overloaded underpinnings and small 16 inch wheels don't help), they're like a "kite" on a string. So excuse us, RV drivers, for being slow, we are just trying to remain on the road ...

This guy's just a few miles out of Ridgecrest, (the earthquake capital of Kern County) CA in the upper Mojave Desert 100 east of Bakersfield. About 80 miles beyond the mountains in the distance on the right is Death Valley. A few miles ahead he'll pass America's WWII concentration camp for Japanese-American citizens. It's called Manzanar! The museum there tells the horrible story of that dreaded concentration camp. You need to see it for yourself! It's the most heartbreaking experience anyone can imagine!

Believe it or not, the United States also interned a fair number of German- & Italian-Americans. Before we entered the war, we were rough on Nazi Diplomatic Missions; many German-American citizens simply disappeared, at the hands of the F.B.I.; and, our Navy did sink a few U-Boats. Some of this, could have been in retaliation, for the SS being rough on our athletes in the '36 Berlin Olympics.

I enjoyed your comments about California as a recent person who barely escaped with the shirt on my back. Yes, they make life as miserable as they can but convince everyone that climate change, health care and the virus can only be solved by massive high taxes but over years, nothing is ever better. After being paroled from California you couldn't pay me to live there now. I loved the scenery and the climate but everything else made life in California miserable for me.
