    Very strange that the sport motor beat the gt motor. I guess the turns do mean everything even when comparing a race tune 540 motor vs a closed endbell sport motor even tho all specs show the race motor should be faster. You provide the best RC comparisons hands down on the web!

    This is very interesting, and backs up some data I collected just recently! Using a Trinity Monster Machine, I tested each of these motors @ 7.2V: RS-540SH from a Lunchbox (2005) = 16,400 RPM / 1.23A RS-540SH from a Blackfoot (2019) = 16,800 RPM / 1.15A RS-540 Sport Tuned Black (1990) = 21,400 RPM / 2.00A RS-540 Sport Tuned Silver (2019) = 21,100 RPM / 1.65A RS-540 Torque Tuned (2012) = 19,300 RPM / 1.35A RS-540 GT Tuned (2005) = 16,400 RPM / 1.90A * Run @ 8.4V -> GT Tuned = 19,400 RPM / 2.07A RX-540SD Technipower (1984) = 20,100 RPM / 1.68A RX-540SD Technituned (1985) = 16,800 RPM / 1.02A RX-540VZ Technigold (1986) = 21,000 RPM / 1.80A * Run @ 8.4V -> Technigold = 25,000 RPM / 1.96A Dynatech 02H (1989) = 28,700 RPM / 2.60A The Sport Tuned is a really nice cheap motor! I'm wondering why the GT tested below it's expectation @ 7.2V and may need to pick up another one to test against. It would seem @7.2V It's higher torque put it in front of the SH, but the RPMs kept it behind the Sport. While it may be nice to be able to replace the brushes, it may need 8.4V to keep up with the Sport.

    Nice tests! your data also backs up some other tests i seen around, which proves what i already knew: the data Tamiya claims for their motors are way off. For example the Lunchbox motor from 2005 (im sure this was the version with the round sticker on it, and a black metal endbell) which is the same as the RC Boy's motor, for this one Tamiya claims 14,900 rpm at best eff. But for the faster Blackfoot motor (writings on the can and a grey metal endbell) Tamiya claims only 13,800 rpm at best eff, and they just started to sell this motor in a box as "540-N"

    Will the sport tuned easily replace the RS without modification? Are they the same size making an easy swap?

    Now, I think Racing Pack 1600SP is the most readily available and the best as Ni-Cd battery of TAMIYA. New Tamiya (55094) is not available in Japan. It is an old type battery like 2400SP.

    That is because the HPI Firebolt has one of the worst torque ratings of any R/C brushed motor out there. They are designed that way for 1/10 on-road cars and to avoid loosing control of them. For anything other than 1/10 on-road, they are worthless.

    with the same car and gears ; by just changing an engine the one with more RPM will have a higher top speed ... its just the way it is; so you either had dieng bateries or it sliped or you have a problem driving it a 19 000rpm engine will allways be faster on the same chassis and specs than a 18300rpm engine its called phisics !
